Spotlight generally only searches at the beginning of words. It can find barebones because it is right after a period, or textwrangler for the same reason, but not wrangler. (It also understands underscores, hyphens, and CamelCase as marking the beginning of words.)
To work around this, instead of doing a straight up spotlight search do a search in Finder (with cmd+F or cmd+option+space). Leave the search box blank, and click the plus button next to where it says "Save." Then make your query "Name" - "contains" -"wrangler" and you are good.
You also need to be careful because I think the file you are searching for is considered a system file. If you are searching within the Preferences folder you will get the right result, but if you are just searching within the home folder or on the entire hard drive, the system file won't show up, unless you push the plus button again and add to your search query "System files" - "are included." Since "System files" isn't in the dropdown box by default, you will probably need to click "Other..." and then find it. You will have the option of adding it permanently to the dropdown box.

Swimming around and resource collecting still bloats saves though, so delete your CellsCache to mitigate that.

I stopped because the game started having a massive lag spike every time I built anything
that's because you had more than approx 100 'objects' such as MP rooms, tubes, connectors etc in any one base. For god knows what reason, each time you add something to a base, the entire base is first destroyed and then rebuilt to attach the new item. You will see this effect early on, where a seamoth re-appears/reloads in the moonbase at approx 70 objects
I have no idea why the devs need to re-calculate/rebuild everything simply because you add a ladder or a hatch

I think the game picks up the base and everything put in it as a single entity to make the game run better and not have to load 100+ compartments at a time consistently, which would kinda require it to be destroyed and replaced when building new things. Probably not right but thats my best guess

Floating was a good spot. The biggest island also has thermal vents on it too. The only problem with floating is the bonesharks. They harass your seamoth

I don't bother with a cyclops anymore. I build a base at the cove tree but not interested in going deeper. The cyclops is an amazing vehicle and fun to use, but banging about it the narrow spaces getting down to the cove tree let alone the same in the lave zone(s) bores me to tears. It's necessary for the very good storyline and ending, but not overly useful when all you want to do is explore and build several (attractive) bases.

Some of the best bases have multipurpose room centers. I like to use the containment down the entire center as a hatchery, and easy access to all floors.

as you start building your way up, put a corridor on top of one of the legs, then build a ladder to get into it and put a hatch on top
remove the ladder and then exit through the hatch to stand on it, build the legs higher, and remember to put another corridor on top of one of them
then deconstruct the hatch and corridor you're standing on, fall into the sea, put the ladder in the leg with the new corridor on it, etc.

there's nothing that will attach to a roof. all base objects start from the ground upwards. You start with a corridor at ground level, add veritial tubes to the height you want, then add mp room or etc. You can then remove everything except the room and it will stay suspended near the cieling (along with anything else you attach to it)

@candid steppe I love that base, lol, I downloaded it to test if the site worked, and sure enough, it did. I decided to explore the base and was genuinely surprised with the hatch that opened into a room with an aquarium floor, well done with that.

you have a real talent for this stuff @orchid wolf , i hope they pay attention to you. The bridge base is a m a z i n g. One criticism, I always put creepvine (yellow) outside my bases to act as beacons and, make them attractive. The game lacks a strobelight, which, should be a substitute for the dreadfult, power hungry, spotlight that can't 'spot' anything > 5m

the floodlight and spotlight (which is actually a searchlight) take ridiculous amounts of power and don't, actually, throw any light at all (compared to two pissy little lamps in the seamoth, which draw no power at all and light up the entire cone). They are part of the unpolished / unfinished aspects to the game. Yes, ok, i get your point about context, but for me, any installed vegetation is part of a base, which, in itself is 'out of place'. Exaggerating, you shouldn't place lantern fruit either.
All that is imho, because your base colonies are inspiring as they are. Thank god you don't thing the same way I do <grin>
