this was a copy study I did compared to Jing Liang's art of one of the San Francisco Ghostbusters. I wanted to learn the kind of facial structure style she uses. I love her character designs, they're really loveable and I want to draw somewhat less menacing people. I'm terrible, I have this Tim Burton style of drawing faces that I need to get out of. This piece was done traditionally as a sketch, then I took a picture of it and used krita for the rest.

Ofc, I usually cut out the area of linoelium I carved and glue/mount it to a piece of wood so it can be "stamped". Using stamp ink will be weaker than using the correct ink, but it'll still work

i see what they are saying, on the right side of the blue planet you should have allowed the arc to extend offscreen instead of sharply curving to the top edge, it makes it look like it's a very long oval instead of a sphere

Yeah, it’s difficult. Not my place to ask your age and idc personally. What im getting at is I was 14 when I started taking art serious but I was bored so easy. I’m 24 now, I barely did much at all in the way of artwork between 11 and 23. But the thing for me was when I had to get a monotonous soul crushing job I learned perseverance. You grow in time. It’s not just about doing art even, you grow as a person and you learn things and- yeah it sounds self explanatory lol, I am only saying this from experience. I believe in you!

But 8 years later I’m writing the second act of my project and making music and art for it. here’s my craziest project from 2024, it’s prismacolor soft core colored pencil on paper that wasnt designed for it. It took me 16 hours. Do not be daunted, for me it’s about perseverance. These can be really time consuming, but also the paper this is on is huge haha

I feel like I should have made the face a little more human. I traced out a deer skull and overlaid it onto a human skull, then shifted parts of the deer skull around until it matched more of the human one. it kinda worked but it's still too deer like imo

I also tried to get the reflective-deer-eye-in-headlight look but it didn't work that well

shape the "headlight", make it a distended rectangle maybe. If you're going for a humanoid feel, I think you need to acccentuate the boney-ness more, look at a ref of a human skull, maybe some more stark shading? I'd say lean into the unnatural side of it

It has a bad reputation for being bad at everything it tries to be - looks too childish, but not natural enough, it's inconsistent and doesn't pass as a computer font either. It's a weird mix of handwritten and computer font, that the creator made very quickly to increase the number of fonts available on the first Microsoft Word.

This is why TobyFox created Sans, along with another bad font, Papyrus.

concept sketch of a leviathan from one of my many Subnautica dreams. It’s not 1:1 to what the design in my dreams was but whatever it’s my design regardless lol

So as the name implies, this creature uses echolocation to travel and hunt. It would live in the Crag Fields near the edge of the crater. Due to its diet consisting of mainly Bonesharks, its jaws and teeth have evolved to become hard enough to bite through bone. It uses its bright bioluminescence to attract its prey, swimming slowly in complete silence before roaring to pinpoint its prey’s position and lunging at them and grabbing them with its hardened claws as it delivers a killing bite.

Overall a lovely fellow

Attempted to trace and redraw this picture of Jinx to see if i could pull off the style. (Image on the the right is the one I drew over) This took a long time but i am quite happy with how it looks. Also, the reference is cut off at the top because there was a white bar there from when i took the screenshot.

i traced this piece after three attemps messing it up, but then spent 4 hours total on the color cause I hate myself (sarcasm, I just was not used to the tools I used and it took a lot of time fixing errors.) Genuinely really proud of this. My heart is melting. This is the first time I've ever tried this kind of colorization [Line art, then grayscale render, then a layer sent to “color” as the final color.] and I love it. It's also the cutest piece I've ever done.

Excuse my English, I'm using a translator, but here’s the pitch: Marguerite's daughter searches for her mother by stealing an Alterra ship. Pursued by the police, her ship ends up crashing on a previously unexplored planet.

I've dug through all the information available on Subnautica wikis, and I've also studied a lot of official Subnautica concepts. I also love the translucent aspects found in deep-sea fish, which are also very present in Subnautica.

Yes, I had imagined a planet with some land exploration (like Below Zero), but this time a desert environment. I pictured vast sand dunes, with caves and crevasses serving as entrances to the water.

That’s why, in my concept, I designed a Leviathan—of course inspired by the worm, but this time based on a centipede. I also imagined some gazelle-like creatures. The caves would mostly be made of blue and purple crystals, as if you were inside a giant geode.

Anyway, there are many more illustrations and additional concepts I’d like to create since I had limited time for my school project

I could totally see a Subnautica game based on the idea that the environment changes every day, through like, currents or something

Maybe you’d be forced to construct a base either on land or floating/suspended so the sands don’t swallow up the base

Oh, I hadn't thought of that! Paying attention to the changing environment or building something to protect yourself. But, unlike Below Zero, in this case, you have to watch out for the heat gauge. At certain times of the day, it's a heatwave, so you need to protect yourself. Have, like in Dune, a suit that recycles sweat into water. Inside the caves, on the other hand, it's much cooler, as if there were a completely different ecosystem inside.

Talking about all this again has made me dive back into my work (since my studies finished with this project in July, I haven't touched it since). So, now I'm cleaning up and adding color to the concept of my Leviathan turtle.👀

there'll be 8 tentacles, which replace the function of the arms of the dragon. (sorry people who are afraid of 8 limbed creatures.) i tried leaning into its gargantuan leviathan heritage with the head and the body, as well as the other leviathan lifeforms of 4546b. the appendages in front of the tentacles are for manoeuvrability, and are made of almost entirely cartilage, which grow from birth. the tentacles now have claws on them, similar to the colossal squid, and the entire body is far more muscular, with most of the body being impenetrable scaled armour with muscle and cartilage underneath. the tentacles are meant to serve as a defence/attack mechanism (sea dragons are likely (or at least should be) highly territorial) and a short speed boost for catching prey or escaping another sea dragon, as being the apex predator, nothing is big enough to not be on the menu.

also, i tried to make it more akin to an oriental dragon so it still fits the "dragon" description.

Its most likely a slug since it lacks bones for arms or anything that could help it move. The only plausible thing would either be small fins or tentacles

This was my concept for it. You can't see the whole skeleton and it slopes down so I figured there was almost certainly more to the body. In the holes I had there be squid adjacent propulsion jets to help the heavy thing swim as it is primarily a walking creature. (also the art is bad due to this being a very old drawing)
