Unfortunately this game is impossible without some constant help. I understand your feelings about not wanting to spoil the fun of discovery, but then reality sets in. I would recommend you find someone on you tube that is doing a play thru, follow it till you get to the place your are stuck, watch until you learn how to continue, then continue with game until you get stuck again. Again, your game, your play.

Yeah there's plenty of folks who don't look stuff up, my other half doesn't generally, I only do because I'm not necessarily the most thorough person in the world, so I miss small things then get confused why I can't progress 😄
No shame in needing a tutorial, or not, or needing to ask the internet once in a while, play the game with the level of intensity you're comfortable with of course, but I don't think its essential for this game specifically.
