They have a pretty big radius around them where in survival without the diving suit youll start taking a little damage

Also those power extenders can reach your base from super far away

Way further than you might expect

Store fish alive in locker and cook when you need to eat. Or salt them to carry with you non-spoiling fish. Gel sacks don't rot/spoil, but iirc other plant foods rot. Use growbeds in base and cyclops to have stable food and water supply (and as with cooked fish, only pick up when you need to eat to avoid spoiling).
