Just go from the lifepod in the opposite direction of the aurora, and you'll find some giraffe-like leviathans that drop rocks. These rocks contain diamond.

Here's a trick, if you look at the clouds and open the pda, most of the clouds will be dark blue tinted, like your looking at the cloud through your pda, but the ||island|| clouds will not be tinted, (note: I don't know if this only works on switch as I only tested this on switch)
