You're not really "missing" anything with that slot but I like to use the scanner room hud chip

It's not too difficult. Spoilers: ||It can be found in the Jellyshroom caves, around 300m down. The entrance to the cave is next to lifepod 17||

||You can use a Seamoth without any upgrades to get to 200m, and get out and swim down to grab a few pieces of magnetite. However, it's easier if you have the mk1 depth module||

I started building a base above the water level, using that one patch of land in the Shallows that is almost at the water's surface as a base, but... I can start to see why building above water level is a problem... Turns out I can't connect modules by their ends unless they match, like I can't connect one end of the Large Room to the side of a Multipurpose room, or build another Large room under another one unless they are perfectly on top of eachother.
I mean I could probably still build above water, but would need to reach away from the patch of land I started on to connect underwater... would be a waste of resources I'm sure.

It's only the enginge efficiency module but you need the thermal reactor module to charge the cyclops too. Make spare power cells at least two and charging at the station works pretty fast. since they drain one by one, you don't have to take them all out.

I do it vegan most of the time marble melons are the power fruits. With 2x3 you usually can get full on water and calories and every 4th you have for replanting. 3 grow pots is all you need. I prefer grow pots because harvesting them in grow beds is a pain.

One problem I had with the dunes was the reapers not loading in if that makes sense, one just popped up in front of me, there was no roaring nothing

The terrain clipping is insane. Take your cyclops there power off the engine sit down on a chair in your cyclops and just watch. They can disappear through the ground and come back suddenly. You can change the clipping in files but it increases your system usage extremely. that's why this was implemented this way.

I don't find it too useful, you can but Shallows bases can stop being needed before long when you need more things from other biomes
Also there's a chance that if you build at exactly 0, 0, 0 you end up having to deal with the magical water fire

the zero point is actually a good spot... I like it because there are areas which are deep close by and you can also have easy starting points to build above water. I always have huge base in the shallows above and under water with sun terraces and a nice view towards the aurora.

It's not the most original but I tend to build my base in southwestern red grass
It's right around like 5 useful biomes so it's just become where I always put down a base

You can always build outposts in all other biomes. I always have one around lifepod 17 at the entrance to jelly shroom caves with a dedicated drilling prawn suit stationed there. And an outpost in the sparse reef.
Since the sound of reefbacks drives me crazy when it's around you all the time I avoid building my main base in the grassy plateaus.

||Tree cove|| is always the spot I build the underground base. Since I like building like crazy I need so much titanium that's whay I always stay close to the shallows. It never runs out there.

And there are deeper regions at the edges and you can also navigate over the shallows with your cyclops when you're patient enough.

That's a weird spot except for the crash zone mesas.

and southeast is the crack field a very disturbing region.

Don't get me wrong, the bonesharks suck but outside of them there's not much else

It's not the bonesharks I also like the bulb zone it's the monochrome and depressing landscape of this rocks and spires in the cragfields.

A very important wreck. I always wonder how so many new players can miss it. The reason is they don't figure always start from your lifepod or the safe shallows for new signals. This way it leads you to other spots of interest. When you don't follow this rule you can end up in dangerous waters and miss a lot.

Not really but you can easily use lifepod 3 signal and just hold the direction you can barely miss them this way.

No however if you go to the mountain islands and go west you should find a big dip, going into which you should come across the underwater islands

go deeper since there are several entrances to the ||Lost River|| it depends where you enter. my favorite way to go is start from the shallows to lifepod 2 and there turn left you enter the || ghost forest|| hug the wall on the left side and drop down. then you will see where to got next... you can't miss the hints from there. you can go there with your seamoth but come prepared.

I told you the directions start from your lifepod and go to lifepod 2. there you turn left. There's a huge hole in the wall and always hug the left wall until there's a drop down deep. No more directions needed.

there are vertical tubes and you can always bring parts of your base above water. i like to have terraces there with gardens and to watch the sunrise.

and it's also nice to have a good view from you bedroom toward the aurora.
