it is pretty easy to point him another way - he can swim north west but when he reaches that big ridge after seaweed area he can just swim right over the ridge then ridge will lead him towards that island

The problem is that they're global objects. And the collisions are only around the player.

So if you lose them they'll most likely fall through the terrain.

||1. Repair the lifepod (with the repair tool... the fabricator will show you how to make one)
2. Get all the simple items (scanner, knife, ... )
3. Search for seaglide fragments in the safe shallows.
4. follow the radio signals, you'll eventually get more as time passes
5. Search for seamoth fragments in grassy plateus (red grass biome)
6. Get moonpool and vehicle upgrade console fragments in grassy plateus and the mushroom forest.
7. By that time, you should get the radio message from the sunbeam... enjoy the show.
8. Upgrade your seamoth with depth modules, which can be crafted at the vehicle upgrade console.
9. Explore the Aurora (the entrance is at the tip, and you'll find a map in the pinned messages)
10. Get the prawnsuit
11. Explore the lost river with your seamoth (you need the last depth module)
12. Get modules for prawnsuit (grapple arm and drill arm IMPORTANT!)
13. With max depth module for prawn, and a grapple arm, you can get to the lava lakes
14. Cry a bunch, because something happened.
15. Build the rocket and escape the planet.
