Suggestion: Add a "generalist" role for devs who don't specialize in any field but can do a little bit of everything (game design, coding, art, sound design, etc.).
I'm thinking in particular about solo devs, hobbyists and beginners.
That's a role I've seen in a few other similar discord server, so it's not such a brand new idea !
Suggestion: Make a "I'm new to game creation" channel, people want advice all the time in game dev chat, and some collation of important things would help get people started.
Suggestion: Someone has figured out the timing of the cookie bot, make cookies harder to track.
Suggestion: Do something about people posting their game 5 times in #completed-games
Idk if it’ll be a check to see if the link they used has already been posted or what, but some people are relentless.
Also ban inf
Suggestion: Auto-lock (possibly just by auto-deleting messages?) the Feedback-Friday thread in #unity-dev on days that aren't Friday
Suggestion:

,
We have to many, cut out 3 from the left group and 2 from the right group.
Suggestion: turn all of the help text channels into forum channels, so people can post without having to wait for someone else to be done.
Suggestion: Make #revenue-share-projects #hobby-projects and #open-for-collab forums too so you can search the role you want to play in development
Suggestion:
Make the bot notice http websites in the hiring/collab channels, and remove the messages containing them. Like in #hiring
Some people might notice an exciting offer and then a website link, and then click that link, without noticing the obvious biggest red flag, http://.
Edit: could be even a better idea to remove http websites in all channels 😆
Ps. If y'all don't want to edit your bots to do that, I could volunteer to make such a bot myself.
Suggestion: some sort of vote mute functionality for when mods cant here fast enough
Suggestion: Perhaps a specific channel for people who would like to share their game jams, as sometimes it's hard to gain traction just by hoping someone on itch will notice it.
Suggestion: Make TimeSet take in the current time for the user, and not the UTC difference. I have no idea what the difference is where I am because it changes twice a year and that's too difficult to keep track off. Also if you're in another country for like, a week and you wanna set the new time, you have to google what the UTC difference is. Annoying. Almost as bad as @winged talon.
Suggestion: #sticker-requests or add stickers requesting to #emoji-requests
Suggestion: We need someone who can monitor vc and voice chat for trolls, Mods haven't done really anything about trolls and its getting really out of hand lately. It takes like an hour or more for the troll to finally be dealt with when it should be the moment someone is pinged to deal with it. I understand people have lives to live but we should at least have people who can be present for certain parts of the day, like taking watch shifts. by the time anyone shows up anymore its too late and the damage has been done so something needs to be done about it.
Suggestion: Create a new command that will bring up the provided image. Something akin to !Jobs or something to that nature.
This is due to a massive influx of people coming into the basic channels, and requesting stuff that belong in said job channels. So if they wont even bother to read the channels, then they are only worth a pictures response.
Suggestion: different roles for 2d and 3d artists
i dont wanna choose the artists role because then people would think i can draw. but i can make 3d models, and theres no role for that. people who do both can just choose both. more granular roles would help a lot with finding people to work with and i think it would actually make it simpler to select your roles because you dont have to think as much about definitions
Suggestion: add some sort of filter for having spent time in the server and sent messages before you can post in #completed-games . a lot of people in there have their ad as their only message in the server
i wanna see stuff from people who actually hang out here, not a random stream of ads
Suggestion: add a channel for just code without engine, like javascript or Python, with a additional other coding languages
Suggestion: We need a new channel on this server for pet pics. It would be monumentally valuable for pushing game development forward.
Suggestion: make a lot of channels opt-in. for example, i never use unity or roblox or AI so i have no reason to see those channels. rn we get a lot of ads and job listings outside their quarantine channels because there's so much clutter
Suggestion: GMHelper role needs to be a color thats not white
Suggestion: make a thread under #open-for-collab or #hobby-projects for game jam team openings(for when popular game jams like gmtk come out)
Suggestion:
Monster is a scum company. See here:
https://kotaku.com/monster-energy-trademark-video-games-lawsuit-twitter-1850298269
Can we get rid of the monster emoji?
Suggestion: change the format for posting things in #open-for-collab , people are thinking that it's ok to post their openings there because of the project: word within the pinned comment with the example of how to post in #open-for-collab . A suitable word to replace project would be time zone as it helps describe when you are more available. It might be better to just remove project from the template
Suggestion: #completed-games and #show-off-your-work are really difficult to sift through right now. A) require a standard format for all posts, and B) host weekly community voting events where the most hearted posts get moved to a read-only channel.
Suggestion: Game Dev Art and/or Discussion to discuss game art/music or something.
Suggestion: A command for telling people how to properly post and format their code:
/codeblock for example
with a content like this (taken from the brackeys discord) - which is C# specific so it could be substituted with information for syntax highlighting of other commonly used languages too:
Use codeblocks to send code in a message!
To make a codeblock, surround your code with ```
To use C# syntax highlighting add cs after the three back ticks.
For example:
```cs
Console.WriteLine("Hello World");
```
Produces:
Console.WriteLine("Hello World");
To send lengthy code, paste it into https://paste.myst.rs/ and send the link of the paste into chat.
Suggestion: add reacts to people's completed games. some of them are pretty cool and i'd like to at the very least be able to give some encouragement to the hard work they put in
Suggestion: A Dedicated play-testing channel with survey templates, play-testing is a real bottleneck for indie and getting solid, early feedback as you iterate is key, which i think this would help with
edit: redacted due to the possibility of people abusing the system, thanks to @dull gyro for pointing out.
our excellent mod Miki suggested that your best shot for testing is making something people want to play on #show-off-your-work and by building a good reputation on the server, thank you.
Suggestion:
Allow people in marketing / brand strategy space to have their own role.
(There are active channels about it but no roles for us😳😨)
Suggestion: Add a Q&A forum
most people have what they ask about game-dev, tutorial, game info and more
I wanted to ask about the author of a game (maybe someone could know) but didn't find a suitable channel
Suggestion: Add a store channel
Maybe some people would like to sell games, assets or services
at least they could add a link
Suggestion: Add an 'pitch AMA' forum.
In the spirit of fail faster, having a place where people can pitch game ideas without disrupting other channels. I have a game idea that I'd like to pitch so others can ask me questions about it to develop the idea further.
Suggestion: Please add a /chance float string command for the bot that just returns a message with either green or red corner.
Suggestion: please add an "accessibilty in games" channel
Suggestion: Disable the cookies for a month
Suggestion: Disable @quaint axle for a month
Suggestion: Disable cookies forever
Suggestion: Add a channel for board games, and/or any other non-digital games.
Suggestion: Remove :koyori_digust:
as it is barely visible on use and probably change it to another reaction that shows disgust better
Suggestion: COOKIE MONSTER TITLE role for those who have eaten more than 25+ cookies!
Suggestion: 🍪 1 free cookie for every person who thumbs up this suggestion 👍
Suggestion: I forget if this has been suggested before, but disable these channels for new users.
Suggestion: Introduce a commendation system for the paid relationships, e.g. a freelancer finds a gig through #open-for-work, the designate the user who is their employer and, if everything is well by the end of their gig, the employer gives them a "thumbs up", so other potential employers know the person is reliable when it comes to freelance gigs.
Suggestion: Add a "Gaming with handicap"channel ( games shoud be accessible for everyone )
Suggestion: RPG Maker engine channels
Suggestion: [Sorry for repeat but]
Can we get like a "Various Game Engines Chats" section, Such as
RPGMaker-chat
Stride3d-chat
FlaxEngine-chat
CoCo-chat
As with the whole drama going on, it would be good to see who goes where rn and be able to discuss how to use each and what were working on.
Suggestion: Add a mandatory format for #completed-games where people type tags of their games like [Simulation], [Roguelike], [Puzzle] so it's easier to filter games depending on genres you're interested to play.
Suggestion: A Forum Channel For People Who Will Volunteer For Projects Or Creations (Obv For Free). "Vol-Help"
Suggestion: Create a partnership channel where server users can critique and decide whether the collaboration would be useful
Suggestion: Create an Spanish Channel
Suggestion: add a mandatory format for #hobby-projects , #revenue-share-projects and #open-for-collab so people can type tags like [artist, sound, godot programmer, c# programmer ....]
Suggestion: Add a market channel where people can advertise their finished products.
Suggestion: Thoughts on splitting
into two halves if space frees up at some point? It's completely unreadable as-is.
Suggestion: Make a dedicated game jam channel with its own format where it's either "Team that needs member" or "Open to joining team". Instead of people posting for game jams in Open For Collab or Revenue Share Projects
Suggestion: Be more strict about Rule 4
Suggestion: Dedicated channel for people to talk specifically about tech.
Suggestion: A few more mods that can help to keep voice chat discussions civil and to uphold the GDL rules which are completely ignored and broken every ten minutes
Suggestion: Add country-specific dev-channels. Country-specific development might help to find important to find important stuff easier
Suggestion: prevent karma from being awarded from gifs
Suggestion: Add an Specific Gdevelop channel
Suggestion: if you are working on a online multiplayer game and need people to test it, you can advertise your multiplayer game and it’s play test time on a dedicated channel for that
Suggestion: and people can choose to have a online play tester role so they can be notified when a online game testing event happens
Suggestion: Events channel to support and encourage connecting in person and networking.
Suggestion: Playtest channel to improve quality of games. Would also allow for those breaking into the industry through QA to get experience.
Suggestion: Add a channel for art feedback and discussion under creative arts.
Asis, the art channels are more for sharing rather than learning. And as gamedevs we should encourage and push each other towards the right direction.
Suggestion: Add a channel specific to marketing and user acquisition to discuss best practices as well as creatives
Suggestion: issue warnings for posting in #hiring when no monetary compensation is offered for the service
Suggestion: Add a channel to showcase shaders (not #shader-dev which is meant to discuss shaders but an actual showcase channel)
Suggestion: ai chat so we can banish the constant ai discussions to it. This would be different from #ai-dev because it's not about making AI's, just talking about them
Suggestion: Use the Discord "Forum" feature for #show-off-your-work and #completed-games, and maybe also for #revenue-share-projects, #hobby-projects and #open-for-collab - those channels have so many people posting that it's impossible to be seen, and having them as forums would remedy that
Suggestion: Add a document channel. Maybe threaded so people can add design docs (or templates) and have discussions about them. Seems to be a common topic in #gamedev-chat
Suggestion: similar to above; A threaded DevLogs channel to post progress throughout game development
Suggestion: Add physical game dev channel aka board games e.t.c
Suggestion: Add channel #feedback_for_a_feedback or something similar. It is almost impossible to generate interest in your game trough #show-off-your-work and feedback trading could help
Suggestion: 72 hours gamejam but your group members are choose randomly
Suggestion: make Feature the Bug react with
on any message that contains the text "scratch"
Suggestion: Add a playtest request channel
Suggestion:
If that's Ok, I'd like to drop a little feedback for the template in the GDL channels for open-for-work, open-for-collab. Currently nearly half of the posts are either in the wrong channel, or instead of saying what kind of project or team a person is looking for, the person writes down a role.
Now the reader has to figure out, is the person in the wrong channel and is actually looking for someone to hire as an artist, is the person itself an artist or looking for a team that needs artists. At least, confusing to search through, especially with 50+ new messages.
If I may suggest a slight improvement: in hire section, starting with "looking for 3d artist" works great, very fast to filter in the headline if it's relevant to you.
The flip in open4work however confuses. Better start with "I am a 3d artist" instead of "looking for x that need an 3d artist".
Suggestion: Ban surveys or add #surveys and direct there in the rules
Suggestion: Create a level design channel?
Suggestion: another permanent voice channel
Suggestion: GDL had a Twitter account that re-shared nice art and game news from this discord, what happened to it? WHy is it no longer active?
Suggestion: Gamejam 34?
Suggestion: Remove the megaphone role icon and ability to manually add shield to name
Suggestion: Make a polls channel for fun asking about gamedev-related topics
Suggestion: make this channel actual polls instead of this thumbs up and down thing
Suggestion: A channel that celebrates game devs. Trailers of upcoming titles, indie titles breaking top 50, 100, etc. Other reasons to celebrate game devs. Posts are removed if they don’t mention at least one game dev’s name.
Suggestion: Add dev channels for homebrew Atari and NES games along with other retro consoles
Suggestion: 14 days is a bit long for those who are sensitive to control. Please reduce the timer to 1 week.
Suggestion: Add an events page!
Suggestion: add memes channel
Suggestion: add a channel where professional game developer can drop their journey as a roadmap for new developers.
Suggestion: Create separate channels for 3D and 2D animations.
Suggestion: Consider a playtest channel where people can create a thread to have people check out vertical slices of their game and give feedback (and test other's games). Possibly some sort of channel reward could be granted to people who take their time to help others out. Obviously not monetary or physical, but maybe a special set of roles/tiers with unique names (not unique permissions). Or badges if Discord has anything like that.
Suggestion: The #open-for-collab forum seems to have a re-occurring problem - Over half of the people posting there aren't posting in the right forum. The majority of the posts get "reported". Maybe changing the name will help, since you can't force people to read the instructions for the forum? The name could be changed to:
open-for-collab-work
open-for-work-not-paid
open-for-work-free-or-rev-share
looking-for-work-free-or-rev-share
Or something like that which will make it painfully clear to the majority of the people not reading instructions that it is supposed to be the opposite of #revenue-share-projects and #hobby-projects , where you aren't posting your projects to get teammates, but are saying that you are available to join one of those types of projects? Might help that ongoing situation some, even if it doesn't fix it.
Edit: I think the best option is open-for-collab-work, because the word work immediately clarifies that the person is looking for work, rather than soliciting help. At least IMO.
Suggestion: Make 3D art and 2d art into forums instead of text channels, allowing more art to be appreciated.
Suggestion: make the #hiring and #open-for-work channels, FORUM channels
Suggestion: prepare with a bot, the 10 least used emojis every month, and let us vote on which one to discard until we've eliminated 10 emojis in total (and close #emoji-requests and #emoji-requests-results until then).
Suggestion: make a music sharing channel for fire music 🔥
Suggestion: make a code review forum for people to dump code and tag it with engines and languages for people to review
Suggestion: I saw it might be a good idea to add an art channel for 3D art
Suggestion: make a chat exclusively for self promo
Suggestion: ai-assisted-development channel for recommendations of tools and llms for ai assisted development
Suggestion: channel specifically for engine development
Suggestion: Contest Channel for Contest.
Suggestion: cooking channel for the hungry devs
Suggestion: Turn #revenue-share-projects and #hobby-projects into forum channels to make projects easier to sort through, similar to how INAT and Making Games Together operates
This is also a feature requested from last year, which had a high number of likes to dislikes
Suggestion: Enable threads in #hiring , #open-for-work , #hobby-projects and #open-for-collab .
Most posts there are very strange and I think it would make sense to ask further questions to clarify stuff before having to dm the OPs.
Suggestion: Skibidi
Suggestion: add a channel for discussion on completed games pls
Suggestion: The Template in the Project Collaboration Channels is very restrictive. Id like it if not all the pointers are mandatory rather just one or two and the rest is a suggestion.
Suggestion: mute/ban anyone suggestioning chatgpt or posting chatgpt answers to questions in #unity-dev
Suggestion: Fiverr emoji/emoticon
Hi Admin, I wish there were a Fiverr emoji to let job posters know their budget is more suited for Fiverr, like this one:
Suggestion: use forums instead of normal text channels for the "porject collaboration" tab, the reason for this change? simple, you can put different tags on the posts so people can select between the roles they need on the project / budget etc and people by filling those tags can look at posts that only need their roles instead of roaming for hours to find a project that requires their set of skills, it would help a lot honestly, hope this will be agreed upon by the majority of this community, have a nice day !
P.S. i also noticed how people asked to add "threads" to those channels so this change would help that as well as each post would be a different channel altogether, so people would be free to ask more questions about the projects in those channels directly, even tho it might be harder to moderate for the staff team.
Suggestion: Hey, why not make a meme channel? We could all drop our funniest finds and memes there, and it’ll be the go-to place for some guaranteed laughs! Think about it – a space where everyone can share their best memes and brighten each other’s day.
Suggestion: abandoned games channel: post your abandoned game and people can continue it if they want (lets hope they wont just steal your assets)
Suggestion: engine dev channel
Suggestion: godot gets its own category, (why does unity get one and we dont? Not even a other engines channel?) unity refugees would also appreciate this i think
Suggestion: can the mods please crack down on people posting roles with revshare agreements in the hiring section? I don't know why these people think they're special and the exception to the rule but they aren't. Maybe doing it once could come with a warning and a requirement that they delete the post and the second time means a ban?
Suggestion: A channel that’s kinda like a diary but for game dev to document progress and ect for you and other to see
Lowkey forgot to mention essentially some typa portfolio
Suggestion:
Adding a #hardware channel would help us share tips and advice on hardware setups, troubleshooting, and optimizing systems for game dev. It’d also make it easier to collaborate and get quick answers in a dedicated channel
Suggestion: It would be nice to change the template format in #open-for-collab so that it is more aligned with the channel's intent and help prevent that 3/4 of the posts are getting reported for being in the wrong channel
Suggestion:
We should actually be able to use #support
Suggestion:
Could we possibly have a watchlist/banned channel? I posted in hiring and there were some dms, but one of them seemed like a major scam..
Suggestion: Make us actually be allowed to use #support even if it is ticket based or not, I think it would be helpful.
Suggestion: There should be a weekly/monthly workshop by very experienced developers on topics, although there is already discussion event, but a workshop by experienced people will help a lot!
Suggestion: incite people to draw in #pixel-art and #2d-art and practice by drawing things weekly. Like drawing x in your own style, changing what to draw every week or so.
Suggestion: make a channel to list game jams
Suggestion: Separate roles for 2d & 3d animators? instead of just being called artists since that could be anything
Suggestion: Add a !justdoit command for people that are asking to do something when they don't really need to.
Suggestion: Adding a #asset channel would help devs for using them and artists
Suggestion: Can we please, please make it so that people who post revshare offers in the hiring section get one warning to take the post down and if they don't then they get banned? I swear every second post in that channel at the moment is someone doing this and it's really annoying.
Suggestion: Rename #gaming-chat to make it more explicit that it's not about game dev, since there has been the occasional user going there asking questions about game development that are more suited for other channels. play-chat, casual-gaming-chat, etc.
Suggestion: Allow 1-2 screenshots/art banners in the collab sections to show what the project actually looks like, instead of links that most people dont bother clicking. This is almost a must for attracting applicants, as it displays the quality better of the project. Not too many, but alteast 1 or 2, i understand clutter would be a thing.
Suggestion: a channel where people could vote on whether the game is worth continuing or not, whether the idea is interesting or not, that would be useful in the future.
Suggestion: There's a Unity Chat and an Unreal Chat but not Godot Chat, sooo... Godot Chat?
Suggestion: A game engine development chat.
Suggestion: Make a survey channel.
Suggestion: Pet channel
Suggestion:
A chat channel for the collab channels so people can ask about job/hobby project listings without going straight to DM's. Lot easier for sketchy people to be sketchy in the privacy of DM's.
Suggestion: Require posts in the #hiring channel to include pay range so people don't have to go through the effort of applying for something that might not meet their needs.
Suggestion: GDL Tag
Suggestion: a game tester channel for people that want to test and games that need testers
Suggestion: Can you fix first "in" to "is" in message from bot after open for collab message because it is not proper English?
Suggestion: Same "in" to "is" but in hobby job message, fix it?
Suggestion: Revive Harambe
Suggestion: game tester channels where people that wants to test games can get a key
Suggestion: Have a "hobby project" server for every role, that way you can find a position you're looking for much easier
Suggestion: notification section for limited time free assets
Suggestion: Can we have a Streamer/Content Creator role?
I am a streamer, and I like to play indie horror games by small devs like the ones in this server. My hope is that the role can highlight those individuals like me who have a passion for game development, but spend more time play testing or reviewing game devs work as opposed to making games!
Suggestion: In all collaboration channels, in every message being posted by recruiters, it should be made sure that the game engine and other software being used are mentioned.
For instance I messaged a team looking to join them, and I'm a Unity Dev and they didn't mention their game engine in the post, so I ask, and they replied 'UE5' that's not so convenient
Suggestion: a “True” emoji and a “Same” emoji
Suggestion: A command that shows people how to format their code in discord (see screenshot from another server I'm in)
Suggestion: Rename #open-for-collab to #looking-for-projects. Too many people wrongfuly post there
Suggestion: Actually respond to and implement suggestions or delete this channel
Suggestion: Add a "Game Optimization" channel
Suggestion: Separate channels for NPC related AI and Gen AI in Game Development
Suggestion: it's been 2 years, update the announcements!
Suggestion: change the modo
Suggestion: make a channel for making music
Suggestion: make this a forum channel so we can discuss suggestions
Suggestion: make a channel for level design
Suggestion: Add a forum channel like #how-to-get-clients or #client-finding-tips where artists can share ways to find clients and freelance jobs. Would be great to have discussions and pinned advice there.
Suggestion: Add a "waiting period" for people so they can't insta join and spew random crap
Suggestion: refine this server channels more make more roles add emojis to the chat name and category so they are easy to find
Suggestion: add a #resources channel that has a cooldown requirement set to 1 post per 24hrs
Suggestion: Mentors that they want to mentor someone else as a volunteer for one hour a week or so.
Suggestion: fairness for every game engine make all categories identical with the same channels
Suggestion: Add Godot channels
Suggestion:
Have a bounty-help channel forum style. People can ask complex specific questions that they can't find answers for, and attach a payment bounty to it like let's say minimum 5 bucks or something.
(as a thanks for helping me, here's a cup of coffee)
In order to access it and post in it, one needs a role, which mods / support team can give out after checking post history & account authenticity - and if they don't pay, they get perma banned off the server.
Basically as a small spot for very complex questions - which would also serve as a hub for people to search for information that may have been answered already because discord forums work with tags & details for discord search
It'd be important to keep the channel very gatekept, so no shitposting / discussion / drama - but focused on productivity and question/answers
Right now, if you want answers to a difficult, complex, advanced question - you post it in the channel, and hope someone who's an expert is online and sees it before it gets buried by chat. This would fix that
Suggestion: A self-mute command so that if someone wants to force themselves to get to work instead of procrastinating on discord they can use a command to mute themselves for a specified amount of time
Suggestion: Please replace the “feature the bug” bot with one that has the function to send you what you tried to send as backup in your DMs when it’s removed specifically from the “revenue share projects” channel (since it saved the history for this message only when it told me I made a mistake rather than broke a rule by not including “suggestion:” before this suggestion), like how GDN’s verification bot works.
Also, please send me what I tried to send in the revenue share projects channel, if it’s in the moderation history for the server, because I want to use it elsewhere so I can find a collaborator who will take the role of marketer.
Suggestion: Add an AI channel so all the people talking about ai specific topics have a place to go instead of constantly dumping it in #gamedev-chat
Suggestion: Add a channel where people can promote social media accounts related to promoting their indie games to help their game get attention, especially for a possible kickstarter and so people know it exists when it’s out.
Suggestion: Splitting the hiring channel into two parts with one for programming and one for art. Right now it is hard to find opportunities since they are not split up.
Suggestion: Make people use the collab channels properly. Maybe the instructions aren't clear. Maybe the names aren't as obvious as they seem. Maybe the posts need a cnfirm screen that makes it explicity what kind of request is being posted in what channel.
Suggestion: Make a channel #looking for an investor or #investor so people can find out their investors
Suggestion: make a channel for sounds and music
Suggestion: provide feedback instead of unconstructive emojis. We should be uplifting each other.
Or not...
Suggestion: Make a custom game engine channel, since there isn't one for some reason and there is a role for it.
Suggestion: Make the bot stop deleting Suggestions that don't start with 'Suggestion:'. It's completely pointless.
Suggestion: Make a channel called "Jams" and its like team godot vs team unity vs team unreal engine game jam but with rewards
Suggestion: rename "coder" role to "programmer".
Suggestion: Expanding off of 👽 's idea we could have a channel which announces upcoming game jams so that more of us could actually connect with each other
Suggestion: I honestly think having a highlight of the month that helps a few indie devs get exposure on their released games would be amazing given how big the server is.
Maybe vote or mods pick a game that’s upcoming to release or just released to put eyes on once a month would be great
Suggestion: for all the people who have nothing to do add a new bot that tracks people leaving and joining the server and a channel for each of those just so people can whatch numbers go up and down or make a channel that does the same thing but the bot just sends out the member count every time somebody leaves or joins but this isn't meant to be helpful this is just meant to kill time when people are bored
Suggestion: running bot commands channel. X E.
Suggestion: A new emote :quithavingfun:
Suggestion: Add a /ideaguy command or smth that answers with the bullet points mentioned here or smth along those lines
https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/1nlfz3f/if_you_dont_know_what_an_idea_guy_is_read_this/
MEMES CHANNEL
Suggestion: Add 3D Animation Channel
Suggestion: A payment system can be set up to protect this community from scammers.
Example: Let's say I agree with someone. I will pay €1,000 monthly. A secure environment can be provided where only GDL founders and moderators can see the payments, either through individuals designated by the “Game Dev League” Discord owners or through the Discord ticket system, and a 3-5% fee is deducted from each payment.
This ensures a secure environment for both parties. The employer first sends the money to GDL, then checks the work. If it meets their expectations, they send the money to the person who did the work.
Suggestion: dedicated Bevy/Rust channel
Suggestion: Create a showcase channel using the forum feature from discord so peaple can have a little thread with various updates on their games, this not only makes it easier to learn more about a project, but also looks very organized when using the gallery format
Suggestion: Add a streaming channel
Suggestion: Add a forum chanel for asking people for advice on game dev.
Suggestion: Ban AI discussion and add it as an addition to the no piracy talk rule as well as banning AI generated content from the server
Suggestion: more mods
Suggestion: we make a debate club BUT it sucks and a valid argument is "OBJECTION I ate a penny this morning" and if you can't thumbs down this bc there's a fly on my big toe I call it broke debate club where you learn to suck at arguments
Suggestion: (or request) Can we have a channel for playtesting? Like basically anytime you need a few people to come kick the tires on something you've made you post there
Suggestion: Adding a #asset channel would help devs for using them and artists
Suggestion: make #open-for-collab #revenue-share-projects and #hobby-projects forum channels so that we can give feedback etc and also allow viewing a list of all non-closed posts(so give everyone permission to close their own posts)
Suggestion: Rename #suggestion-box and all related channels to #server-suggestions to avoid having people come into the channels to ask for advice regarding general game-dev stuff
Suggestion: Add a Feedback channel which is similar to #show-off-your-work but focusing on feedback from others in the community. Can be a great way to get critique&suggestions that is pretty hard to get otherwise, kinda related to @eternal vault's suggestion
Suggestion: a channel that we can't write in but has some beginner code for popular languages or engines
Suggestion: a forum-channel for playtesting
Suggestion: Discussing and voting on the possibility of adding an Accessibility channel to our server to share experiences, tips, and helpful gaming tools to promote inclusive gaming experience — including for devs and QA.
Suggestion: change the #open-for-collab and #open-for-work key of answers to br way less confusing on who actually goes there.
I would reccomend something like this, but im voaching of any type of change to it:
My/our skills:
desired type of project/team, (if any):
desired lenght of project:
status:
contact;
Suggestion: A dev-log area like a Discord forum so people can have a thread per game and dev-log in here, maybe even multiple for genres as to not crowd a billion into one and lose yours. X E.
Suggestion: LLM channel to stop AI/LLM drowning out #gamedev-chat
Suggestion: We cant place :report: at #open-for-collab now and there are a lot of people looking for members rather than projects/teams. bring it back
Suggestion: make it so Suggestions have different categories like code, sound, art, and smt for everything else this could be represented by c, s, a, and n. I think this will help ppl vote on a Suggestion that is on a topic they like rather then just reading through random Suggestions that wouldn't even really effect them
Suggestion: Add "AI images not allowed" to the description of all the art chats.
Suggestion: Change the name color of nitro boosters to something cooler like maybe a red gradient or something
Suggestion: make a channel for scratch dev
Suggestion: Could we rename the "open-for-collab" #open-for-collab channel (under Project Collaboration) to "looking-for-a-team" or "looking-to-join"?
A lot of people seem to misunderstand the channel’s intent. Instead of posting their skills and availability to join other projects, they interpret the current name as a place to recruit collaborators for their own projects. A clearer name should reduce that confusion and the spam of facepalm emotes on each post
Suggestion: We need a new bot command..
!ref <username>
which would send to the channel...
<@username> If you are looking for help, collaboration or to hire on others pick the most appropriate channel, read the pinned post for posting rules and make a post there to get started.
#open-for-work #open-for-collab #hobby-projects #hiring #revenue-share-projects
Suggestion: i think we should put tippets on how to be better at the game so that we can make losing fun
Suggestion: do this and bring back :report:
Suggestion: make it a bannable offense when someone uses generative AI but pretends their art is self made.
This regularly happens in #audio-chat and it's weirding me out.
Suggestion: add a secondary #game-design-theory and #game-narrative channel. I don’t want to interrupt someone else when I want input on something.
Suggestion: add categories to #looking-for-team and #revenue-share-projects so that you don't have to read all unrelated messages, and put the open/closed indicator at top of post
Suggestion: need a feedback about thishttps://zappy-pink.vercel.app/
Suggestion: Let's fix the hiring page so there's less bots and unserious clients...
Maybe adding a way for people to comment under a client post so you'll see what you want to work with.
Suggestion: We need a channel where we can ask for free assets
Suggestion: Find an alternative to Discord that isn’t going to force us to put our faces in their database.
Suggestion: It should be made compulsory for job listings to provide an estimate figure for payment and rather than "to be discussed".
Suggestion: I have a serious complaint about this server and INAT.
Here you will either find someone looking for a dude with over 10 years of experience who knows how to communicate with horseshoe crabs and translate it to portuguese OR have some guy who just got into gamedev wanting to create gta 6 from scratch. Not to mention the spamming of AI slop and self-promo in most channels.
I don't have any concrete suggestions to solve this but I think its something other users can relate to, I hope at least someone from the moderation takes a look at this and finds a way to reduce those issues
Suggestion: have people explicitly put the minimum level of experience they are looking for on collab and hiring channels, alongside THEIR level of experience (eg. Beginner-friendly, 2 years experience, etc).
Also have them explicitly write if their game uses AI or not (if this doesn't already exist).
This is a complement to my previous message that could help with the problems I mentioned earlier
Suggestion: Bring back report
Suggestion: A way to report stuff to Mods with a ticket system bot
Suggestion: add more game engine like construct, roblox studio or scratch
Suggestion: Make a #free-help channel for people who are looking for free help.
Suggestion: turning this channel to a forum OR giving permission to create public threads to discuss the suggestions
Suggestion: make a channel for devs only. and maybe a channel for posting pics of corndogs like in the necoarc server
Suggestion: Color roles, I refuse to be this yucky yucky green any longer then I need to be.
Suggestion: Create a channel for new game developers and/or young game developers
Suggestion: split the #audio-chat channel into multiple channels. Music, voice acting, and sound engineering are all different disciplines. As it currently stands 99% of what that channel is used for is music, and there doesn't seem to be anywhere to discuss other types of audio work.
Suggestion: Ban Generative* AI, or at least give it it's own dedicated channel so it cant be passed off as somebody's actual work
Suggestion: merge all channels into one so we can talk in one place
Suggestion: make two channels, one for the upvoters and another for the downvoters
Suggestion: We need a Report channel because there have been a few troll and people who are way to eradict
Suggestion: A seperate role for YouTubers who post devlogs on YT.
Suggestion: Eliminate the #roblox-dev channel
Suggestion: A plain code, no engine channel, not everybody uses a game enigne
Suggestion: make a channel for game pitches.
Suggestion: A blender tutorial channel.
Suggestion: Add a new server role: Translator.
Suggestion: add a meme channel
Suggestion: a channel for game jams
Suggestion: Can we have an in server game jam soon? It could be a fun way to bond with the members here. Also preferably something short cerca 3-4 days
Suggestion: add a channel for developers who don't use a game engine and are working with libraries like Pygame.
Suggestion: get some more and active moderators
Suggestion: when someone helped you out with something, give a way to give them points and a way for them to display those points, so its cool to help ppl :) maybe multiple ranks for amount of points
Suggestion: Them bot scammers / stolen accounts always post the same images. How about we implement a bot to automaticaly delete/silence/ban those accounts instead of tagging mods? (Image detection/scanner)
Suggestion: Monthly suggestion box review.
Suggestion: Taco Tuesday for everyone!
Suggestion: Godot Channel/ and or A Coding Channel?
Suggestion: Separate categories/servers for game developers of different skills
Suggestion:create a channel for game companies to look for investors for their game and a channel for game devs/composers or whoever wants to sell things like game assets or beats etc..
Suggestion: A rule agains ragebaiting/virtue signalling about AI as unsolicited responses to projects being shown off unless they are obvious low-effort vibecode or image gen slop, because the daily discussions are so fucking tiring and it's literally just shitposting/trolling/baiting people at this point. I used to rail against the AI shit but at this point with what we know about the tech now that it's here and mainstream its only worth it to derail conversation to project a skill level or moral purity or just to throw a grenade for shits and giggles to ruin the quality of chat.
AI discussion should be allowed, randomly baiting about it in response to people's work and pride in their work should not
Suggestion: remove @neat ocean from mods or calm him down. it has a very bad attitude towards members and abuses power. I don't think his behavior is proper for an admin even if he does administer the channels a lot of people would be a much better admin. It's not the first time he acts this way and has problems with members.
Suggestion: a room for "positive" oriented chat / discussion. In my experince, a lot of discord gamedev talk is very cynical and sarcastic. It would be great to have a channel that is specifically oriented towards encouragement and positive vibes. Of course, negative attitudes tend to be louder, whereas positive oriented people tend to be more heads-down just getting work done. But that said, if a way could be found, it would be awesome.
Suggestion: a bot or bot feature to auto-delete messages in the tutorial channels that do not either contain a link or a video ( #unity-tutorials etc) and the person gets a dm to instead take it to #unity-dev with the bot also sending them a copy of their message so it isnt lost
Suggestion: I would like to suggest that paid, revenue-share, and free job channels should be separated. The main issue is that it takes time to go through chats, and only later do we realize whether a job is paid or not. This way, both sides can save time, and the right requirements will reach the right candidates more efficiently.
Suggestion: A server tag
Suggestion: add a section for browser games
Suggestion: please moderate or make it clear that the Game #open-for-collab channel is for people looking for projects to work on and NOT where people are hiring/advertising (which is in #hobby-projects or #revenue-share )
Suggestion: Can we please have rules against AI generated stuff in the art channels? I cannot understand what positive outcome could ever come of someone sharing AI generated slop there. The art channels here are presumably for discussing art techniques or sharing work people made. How does someone sharing something they prompted fit into that at all? If you want to have a generative AI channel fine, but please ban this stuff form being shared in the existing art channels.
Suggestion:
Pls give us a #roblox-books channel
So that we would be able to intelligently talk about books on roblox
Suggestion:
give us a way to report bad apples in the community
Suggestion:
More voice channels to cover different topics such as Music Production, UI / UX creating, or Discussions
Suggestion:
To create a better #unreal-faq post. I have a post in mind if I can DM the post to you. The unreal-faq doesn't have the same amount of love that godot or unity have, Just want to contribute to my UE homies more and shine some light on some of the community aspects.
Suggestion:
Please delete or otherwise moderate posts in #open-for-collab that do not follow the pinned post. It's at a point where if you don't want to waste your time the best way to find people is to just scroll past and completely ignore posts with a facepalm emoji. One could easily post a listing that follows the rules but gets entirely ignored because of a misplaced facepalm emoji.
As a previous suggestion also offered, the name of the channel should be changed to further reduce this confusion since its obvious the majority of people posting are just following the format of people before them rather than reading the pin which results in this problem because most people (myself included) do not initially understand what that facepalm emoji is indicating.
Even though this suggestion is targeted towards #open-for-collab I feel as though my criticism of the lack of moderation can apply to all channels in that category as well
Suggestion: Stop neglecting us
Suggestion:
Honeypot channel that bans all the spam/scam bots.
Its a system that i see works very well on multiple other servers.
https://discord.com/discovery/applications/1450060292716494940
but admins in here don't do stuff anyways, so dealing with those bots will be forever left to joby and reo
Suggestion: Active moderation of the #completed-games channel.
Currently the 1 post per 30 days rule is non functional, and the channel can be spammed with the same post/ad frequently.
Remove posts for games that are not completed. Several posts are to Steam pages that don't host a completed game, just a "coming soon" page without the ability to download/purchase. This is already against channel rules, according to the pinned messages.
I realize bot control will be coming soon is stated in the channel description, but that was written in 2022. Until the advent of bot control, I believe that active cleanup is required.
Also, if general chit chat and comments are not supposed to be allowed in #completed-games, they should be removed. (I don't think chit chat should be allowed, as it distracts from the showcase)
(A required channel post template might help to limit the random chit chat, especially if a thread linked to the post could be auto created upon submission, but that is beyond the scope of this suggestion)
Suggestion: ban ai slop
Suggestion: Project Updates in General should be limited to a few big updates per hour as decided by mods.
A big update is defined as 5 or more lines of test about the game or a video.
This does not apply to ongoing discussions about a particular game, troubleshooting, or feedback where others are actively(willingly) helping.
