Pros:

  • One of the most annoying things about BRs is running a long time to get between objectives while doing nothing. In Supervive, if you're running through an area that has no creeps or objectives left it's totally dead time. If you land on the edge of the map you likely have doubled your dead time. If you drop somewhere and no one else was near you've tripled your dead time. Cars fix this and that's amazing.
  • Similar to the above, because there are so few relic shops, having cars that let you get to them quickly lessens the pain of it being difficult to access the fun items you gacha'd.
  • Evens the "mobility economy" of the game when trying to escape. A Brall aggroed onto you is no longer an automatic death sentence.

Cons:

  • Cars have an insane amount of health. Make them die in 5 hits.
  • Cars do an insane amount of damage. Don't make them do damage to players or gliders.
  • Cars do an insane amount of displacement. Don't make them ragdoll people around.
  • Cars tank damage for the driver. Make all hits to the car hit everyone onboard.
  • Cars are better Zeph. Have a Celeste ult on the back of a car and auto win the fight. Don't let people attack at all while on cars.
  • Cars have an insane amount of fuel. They should be single-use "Get from X to Y" point.

Those five points combine to cause a number of issues to occur:

  • You can never stop someone from running away.
  • You can never stop someone from "skipping neutral" and immediately being directly on top of you, having taken no damage.
  • If your team gets slammed by 2-3 cars, everyone goes flying in different directions, making it incredibly easy to pick a target and instantly kill them because they're now alone.
  • Any attempt to escape is instantly done as soon as someone with a car finds you. This makes split farming insanely dangerous.

Other misc. points:

  • You can instantly remount a car after having been CC'd off of it, removing the point of even CCing someone on a car.
  • Cars increase the likelihood of being third partied. You can land somewhere remote with cars and drive to where you saw other people drop and get there before their fight is over to third them.

tl;dr Cars are a neat addition, they need to be giga nerfed so they fix one pain point (long travel time) without causing a long list of frustrations in other areas of the game.

All very reasonable criticisms I'd say. The one thing I'd say is that you could probably allow Primary attacks while on back while disallowing other abilities and you'd still get the desired nerf while keeping part of the fun of the vehicles.

Also with regards to displacing players, what if the displacement was at right angles to the travel path? IE getting hit by a vehicle moves you a fixed amount (say one or two character's widths at most) to the side?

I mentioned this in the friday dev chat but I wanted to share it again here:

What if we made cars keep their unlimited boost but build up heat while boosting. Normal fuel remains limited. If you heat up the car too much it blows up (Motorstorm anyone?)

This alongside a health nerf that lets you actually break them in a reasonable amount of time could address several pain points the current implementation has while making them more narrowly a conscious rotation tool instead of a perma chasedown-ram people over tool.

It could make them more of a consciously chosen tool instead of the right choice every time.

That is also potentially an option. The core issue that needs to be solved is, you shouldn't ever be trying to ram people with the cars. You can use the cars to get to a fight, but then you should dismount them. The cars are effectively their own characters that are stronger than anything in the game combat-wise, hence the "breaks the entire game" from the title.

It is fun at first, but quickly one should see how degenerate it makes the gameplay. It's similar to how some people view dunking, and how it circumvents the entire combat gameplay mini-game. Cars do that everywhere, not just the abyss.

Like a car ram engage seems lile a super cool thing that should be possible. Currently beebo can stick his bomb to the car and do the battlefield c4 atv thing which is right up supervive's sandboxy alley

I agree some interactions are too much. Hence why I hold the belief that with tweaks it could be super fitting and engaging. I full agree that at current cars are OP as shit and are fun-suckers

Like Beebo ult + Celeste ult at least requires the commitment of 2 ult cooldowns to pull off. But if you replace the beebo ult with car it becomes an insane value play that if harder to react to and escape because cars are so maneuverable

Scrim players were already being vocal about how unfun Celeste + Void TP was. The car is like Void/Zeph/Beepo on crack, so yeah.

It is very all-in, I think part of the frustration comes from the fact that Celeste/Void aren't strong in scrim, so using both of them and getting lucky with a gimmick play feels like you've been cheated 😄
