#I think Asia server should be located in Hong Kong again

A few months ago, the Asia and Korea regions were merged. To provide better ping for Korean users, the server was moved from Hong Kong to Tokyo. However, at this point, I believe we should consider moving it back to Hong Kong. Here are my reasons:

1. The Game Has Not Gained Significant Traction in Japan

If the server is located in Japan, the country that benefits the most from low ping would naturally be Japan. Unfortunately, despite various marketing efforts, including streamer promotions, the player base in Japan appears to be extremely small. As a regular user, it's impossible to get exact player counts, but we can get a rough idea from social media metrics.

  • The SUPERVIVE JP YouTube channel has only 75 subscribers.
  • The official X (Twitter) account has 871 followers.
  • The Japanese Discord community has just 184 members.
While the X follower count is higher than the other platforms, this is likely because X is the primary social media platform in Japan. It's common for even relatively unknown games to have over 10,000 followers there. A special case like Fortnite has its Asia server in Japan, but that's because the game is immensely popular in the country. If you queue for a Fortnite match on the Asia server, the lobby is filled with Japanese players. This doesn't seem to be the case for SUPERVIVE.

2. The Ping Difference for Korean Players is Minimal

As a neighboring country to Japan, Korea would be the next to have the best connection. I believe Korean players make up a significant portion of the Asia server population. The issue is that for us, there isn't a major difference whether the server is in Hong Kong or Tokyo.
I live in Korea and played on the Asia (Hong Kong) server from the open beta until the merge, and I typically had a ping of 40-45ms. On the current Asia (Tokyo) server, my ping is around 35-40ms. If the server is moved back to Hong Kong, I expect the ping for Korean players would increase by only about 5-10ms.
(There was a routing issue with the Hong Kong server in the past that sometimes caused ping to spike to 80ms, but this was manageable with a VPN, and I have faith that Theorycraft can resolve this underlying issue permanently.)
While higher ping is never ideal, I believe Korean players would be willing to accept this minor trade-off for the greater benefits outlined in the next point.

3. The Potential to Attract the Massive Southeast Asian (SEA) Player Base

Currently, players connecting to SUPERVIVE from Southeast Asia experience pings of up to 100ms. This obviously makes the game very difficult to play and creates a high barrier for new user acquisition. We cannot afford to ignore this region.
The combined population of Korea, Japan, and Taiwan is about 200 million. In contrast, Southeast Asia has a population of over 670 million. Furthermore, MOBA games like League of Legends and Dota 2 are incredibly popular in this region. Since SUPERVIVE is a game with 36 players per match, a large and healthy player population is crucial for its long-term success. Moving the server to Hong Kong would make the game much more accessible to SEA players and could lead to a significant influx of new users. As an additional suggestion, adding support for languages like Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese would also be a great step toward welcoming these communities.

Conclusion

To be frank, SUPERVIVE's popularity in Asia is currently lagging behind North America and Europe. If the game launches with the server remaining in Tokyo, it will likely only cater to a small pool of players from Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. I believe its chances of success under these conditions are unfortunately low. By placing the server in Hong Kong, I believe many more players across Asia will be able to enjoy SUPERVIVE.

This is just my perspective, and I hope many other SUPERVIVE players from across Asia will share their opinions as well.
Thank you.

I took the screenshot above in March playtest. Only 3ms difference in this case.

I'm from Thailand and strongly agree, I used to play with 40-50 ping before but rn 90-100.

Makes so much sense going from 100 to 50 is a big diff

#

I perma see Koreans queueing in NA coz of population issue at a certain time

This makes a lot of sense and id think this is a good idea, maybe they'll add another server for 1.0

They should understand this with devs/staff from riot some of which with more than a decade of experience that ping is a huge factor for ones who take the game serious. Game wont survive with just a casual audience let alone multiple queues or gamemodes. Game needs dedicated players preferably many that are addicted as bad as that sounds morally. And for these things the server limiting the player is massive issue. For league even with europe having multiple countries that average 8-20 ping the difference between mechanical development and or possibilities/satisfaction on korean servers with sub 5 ping doesnt go unnoticed. Supervive isnt and wont even come close to leagues competitiveness nature but regardless ping is on the frontlines of things they should care about. And if the case of NA and EU are the only major regions develops due to this and one massively out performs the other to the point of spectator boredom. They miss out on huge part of storylines and memories regarding its tournaments/events.

As much as Koreans near always have better work ethic and or both talent in games i play, i would hate to see them miss out or not be prioritized if making this game good is the goal. From the Korean scrims i watched i could already tell that with more eyes and development they would quickly be on pace to outdo eu and na as is. I saw many instances of teamwork and individual outplay happening without any comms even which at multiple times was better than eu and na play with comms and more experience/people to play against. So even though i cant be bothered to play until the game reaches a for me worthy state i do hope it becomes much better for the Asian regions mostly Korea & China (not sure how it is for them)

Yep, Ive been saying this for a while too. It wierd to focus on Japan and Korea when a huge population of potential players is being ignored. Also marketing in Japan and Korea is a lot more expensive than in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam for example... I bet having a Vietnam or Singapore server would bring more concurrent players to the game than any other region. Supervive is a great game and fits the playstyle of this region so well...

80% of top 50 players in Asia Pacific are from Korea. It might be understandable if the server was in Korea but locating the server in Japan is still not a good decision

#

Sorry for Japanese supervivers, but not many Japanese play this game

#

just move the server to hong kong

a single country can't run 36 men battle royale game in sustainable way

agree as someone who experience 100 ms each game, its kind of frustrating as some hunters are actually unplayable with this ping

Dang, that would make too much sense, so I don't think it'll happen

The ping is honestly so unplayable, it's one of the big reasons I stopped playing eternal return as well. Also, with the Asia server being largely dive meta most of the time, it makes the game way more unenjoyable since the inputs aren't as smooth

Some of you might notice that the X follower has been increased massively.
However it's not because the game itself has been popular. They'll be giving away free Amazon gift card to randomly selected followers

as a SEA player, 2 of my friends quit after server integration. I am the only one who stayed... It really is frustrating getting diffed by korean shivs, I didn't know if shiv was just strong or because i have 70 ping that doesnt feel like 70.

I cant podrace, it's laggy when i move faster like jin or wukong. This is the first game that I played with over 50ms so maybe im just btching... :<

I am 80% less comfortable after the server integration. As a jin only player back then, It was fun, but now i just dont find it enjoyable. I now mainly play elluna and ghsot who is better with ping and I can enjoy playing somehow. :>

Yep I agree, ping is a huge issue that affects core mechanics of certain champions. Occasionally, there's even a full on lag back after dashing/screen tearing after dashing or using other abilities. Glider toggling is such a problem that it makes abyss battles an absolute nightmare sometimes when absolute precision is necessary to avoid being spiked. Not sure if there is a desync too but abilities that are not supposed to hit connect while some that are clearly on the target don't (and this is a huge problem when basic attacks are aimed too)

My friend in SEA is having a really hard time when the ping start unstable, how can you avoid people with ping below 50ms when we in the SEA region are getting 110ms.

Spoiler: You can't. Not sure if it is because of the ping, but we are also getting crazy disconnections either at the start of the game/mid game
