#So... Who have we been requesting?

Amid the upcoming hunters, devs mentioned a 'diabolical new support many of [us] have been asking for'. Any idea what trend, request, or idea this refers to?

icy cipher
#

it refers to people wanting more supports

Ahhh, fair. I'm still waiting for the dust to settle on hunter terminology before I despair too much about class distribution (rn the impression is "four categories with certain commonalities of two characters and then our pile of miscellaneous damage guys"), but I am all about more supports.

It'd be great if the next female character didn't have the exact same body type as all of the current ones do. Celeste, Shiv, Joule, Myth and Shrike all look the same with Bishop only breaking the mold because of her suit. Compare them to the variety in just Zeph - Brall - Hudson.

#

Also, more of whatever Felix and Elluna are, that kind of variety is awesome

#

There are a lot of different body types that people find attractive

pure stag
#

Are Joule, Shiv and Myth really the same in bodytype?

#

What kind of bodytype would you like to see, any examples from other games?

HAZE

#

most of the custom hunter ideas from the event were supports

#

the haze amalgamation is upon us

shadow sonnet
#

Ellie from Borderlands, Mei from Overwatch, Sister Hannah from Fable, Halfling/Gnome/Dwarf type characters in general also @pure stag

ivory minnow
#

most were supports

# astral bear I mean

she seems kind of slender though in the pic on the right. But still fairly wide hips

shadow sonnet
# pure stag I see. How popular are these characters?

No idea really. As popular as any other well written characters I guess? I remember Ellie far better than most 'Sexy hot' feminine characters in Borderlands for example, and Mei not looking like an 'I do cold things' Tracer certainly gave her more of a unique identity. Joule and Celeste could have their yellow and blue accent colours swapped and they'd still fit their themes, Mei and Tracer not so much.

#

not true about joule and celest

#

we get it, you want more diverse characters, everyone is fine with that

#

but when you come in hot like that ppl are gonna get defensive

#

just say you wanna see more diverse characters

#

doesnt have to be a moral fight

shadow sonnet
#

I didn't think I was coming in hot, but alright. This is a discussion though right?

#

Make Joules yellow stuff blue though and she would make a pretty passable ice character imo yp_PikaShrug

ivory minnow
#

its like theres two ways to say it

#

"everyone looks the same, this sucks"

#

or

#

"i want the next hunters to be far more diverse and fill out the roster"

#

i think everyone will agree with the second

#

no contest

shadow sonnet
#

And where did I say the first exactly?

ivory minnow
#

man, just read ur msgs im not attacking im trying to help you get ur msg out there

#

you love this game like all of us

#

anyways, im out

# pure stag I see. How popular are these characters?

I mean, look at Marvel Rivals. 95% of the female cast have identical comic book body types - supermodel thin, perfect curves, etc. And by far the most popular in terms of 'hotness' is Squirrel Girl, the character whose face and body type show the most variation from that norm.

And to be clear, I don't think MR shows nearly enough variety of female character design (something it inherited from the comics industry it's drawing IP from), Squirrel Girl is a laughably low bar for body and face diversity, I don't think every single female character (or male character, though that's rarely an issue) should prioritize being hot or cute over everything else.

But even the game that I think is far worse at cookie cutter female character design than Supervive shows where having a more unique character design or letting yourself get outside this very narrow idea of hotness is not antithetical to people finding that character attractive (something Mei bears out as well).

# astral bear I mean

Honestly I'd be stoked for a character like Testament from Guilt Gear or Ravenswatch Carmilla

There are differences (and there have been improvements, props to the devs - earlier development had a strong overlap in face design, which have gotten demonstrably better with development), but they're generally pretty minimal. Which, given this is not a hyperrealistic game but one where Kingpin or Void or Hudson's body types are on the table, the differences among the female cast is notably smaller.

#

Tbf I really don’t think any of those characters have the same face

shadow sonnet

Joule is the median, Myth is a little more muscular, Celest is a little more slender, that's great. Those types need representing too. But if Myth is the most muscular, Celest the slimmest and Joule the (for arguments sake) heaviest they're willing to go with future designs then that will be disappointing.

There's no need to go back and change any of the existing characters radically. Closing the gap to the diversity seen on the male side over time will be more than good enough.

Also, this isn't just a call for diversity just for diversities sake or for representation of 'real life' body types. It's a video game that relies on visual cues.
If there's a giant muscle mommy with a hammer coming toward me, I know I should keep away and fight at range against them. If there's a tiny skinny little thing dashing around and peppering me, I know I need to somehow get one good shot in. If there's a giant heavily armored absolute unit shielding the rest of their team, I know I need to get around them somehow to get the squishies.
Now there are four 5' 8' 130lb athletically curvy characters with attractive outfits in front of me. They look lovely, but I'm at a loss as to who does what and what I'm meant to do against or as them. I'll figure it out eventually, but not as quickly as if they were visually distinct.

On topic though, I want a shortstack imp themed support/utility who specializes is disruption and anti healing, like Ellunas evil step-sibling kinda vibe y_shibahearteyes

it is copium i'm sure but like, cmon wasn't she a fan favorite whose kit didn't survive the gameplay direction switch

#

i hope the diabolical supp is as lanky and tall as her silhouette is implying she is

tender pond
#

Wait this was playable at some point?

#

Gameplay direction switch? From what? Was it always such a "whoever bursts first or has a Brall wins?" or was there more nuance

astral bear
tender pond
#

It'd be nice if tank/support meant more than just "bring an Oath because the game doesn't function as long as his shield is up" lol

tender pond
#

Probably why Ghost feels so bad these days, compared to everyone having 2 or even 3 dashes

#

back then he was probably one of the original dashers

astral bear
#

first iteration of Ghost I believe was called Skelm, his whole kit had the gimmick of switching between AD and AP

tender pond
#

AD?

astral bear
tender pond
#

Oh so AP/AD were separate things then

astral bear
#

there was a time where they were separate stats

tender pond
#

Yea

astral bear
#

but they got merged because equipment back then was still looted

#

so you could get fucked by RNG not giving you the damage type you needed

#

Skelm somewhere along the way became Assault around when I first started playing

#

back then his ult was a missile barrage

#

that travelled as a projectile like Void TP

tender pond
#

Nice

astral bear
#

but several explosive hitboxes

#

anyway Death Knight was a lifesteal tank I saw vague descriptions of on the Notion wiki before that got nuked

#

(people didn't read wikis)

#

her design kicked ass though

#

melee with like a stab attack pattern rather than swinging

#

Xin Zhao vibes from what memory can piece together of those times

tender pond
#

That'd be awesome I have a character write up in the feedback for a polearm user that originaly was stabbyl ol

astral bear
#

that era of Loki was unhinged TBF

#

Brall used to have a passive called "built diff"

#

he refused to believe in armour, therefore all his attacks did true damage and he couldn't wear armour

#

ultimate glass cannon

#

he was actually fun to fight back then because he had a bunch of mobility to just dodge shit, get on top of you, and delete you

#

but if you hit like 1 CC he died

#

or like blasted him with the right skillshot

tender pond
#

So basically Jin

#

lol

#

I'm getting pretty sick of the burst or get bursted or have an insert: Oath | Brall | Joule meta tbh

#

It's also kinda depressing watching Ghost or Felix just get run down by whoever's left on the enemy team because they just don't function without team-mates forcing bad decisions somehow

warped knot
#

that old brall sounds fun as long as he couldn't get onto you for free

shadow sonnet
tender pond
#

It's so painful man

#

You take one fight half your HP is gone and it was like half a second. his shield is so useless because whole enemy team can just stack you immediately and randoms are too dumb ot help

#

The whole "life steal sustain" thing doesn't work in a lot of fights you just take 1500 damage because you're so painfully slow

#

I hate that I can have 40K+ damage dealt and tanked and we still lose and the entire time it feels like a losing battle

#

The ghost buffs are definitely felt, now even the wet noodle character out bursts Felix there's no reason to even attempt tanking outside of Oath lol

shadow sonnet
#

I still like Felix though because my bad aim and panicked reactions don't matter quite as much on him nko_sweat
