IMO it's by far the weakest and worst part of the game, especially with how un-level the playing field over the abyss is. Half of the roster basically never has to glide at all, meaning they basically never have to risk interacting with the mechanic that's meant to level the playing field.
Would love to see something/anything that makes abyss combat actually interesting.
#How do you guys feel about airborne combat in Supervive

best part of the game, the skill ceiling is insane. I've gotten so much better at abyss fights over the year i've been playing, i just feel super confident if a full team is chasing me
feathering glider, mantling, going into terrain to reset ur glider fuel, and then depending on what ur character dash u can do alot more
with shiv, shift and then LMB backwards so u get ur shift back if u hit someone
bishop shooting to get a boost with ur LMB
so much u can do
I think this is very true
Abyss should be really fun, but it feels like some characters have the abyss considered in their kit and others just don't
Add onto this that there are a load of issues caused by the "glider cancels casts" change, and stuff like instant dunks from ronin slam (although new grapple helps ease this a little), and abyss feels pretty bad unless you're picking characters who are just stronger in abyss rn
I think after a balance pass specifically targeting abyss across the entire caste it would be a lot better
I don't think it needs to be equal across the board - I like freeze being really good at abyss for example, but at least her LMBs run out and reload, and you can drop glider going through her waves, so there is interaction, whereas other characters gap you so hard there isn't any interaction
I think there are certain characters that absolutely ruin abyss gaming, but there are other characters that lead to it being some of the highest highs in the game. The dunks that instakill are ok IF they are on a more immobile character, like I think KP's dunk is find cause you have to do so much to get into a position where you can dunk someone.
But other characters like Ghost just ruin abyss gameplay.
Yeah ghost, Brall, even elluna's speed range and commitment to her lmbs feel like they have very low interaction for playing in abyss if I had to call out the 3 that are the worst
Maybe joule too
Doesn't Joule stall her downward momentum as she charges her dash?
Yea, fair, just wabted to confirm, think that may add to her abyss dominance

Agreed, though I will note that only playing Void definitely impacts my perspective on abyss combat.
Void hovering over abyss while casting shift / R is nice, but it's also only if I start the cast while over abyss - I can't cast shift and then hop over the abyss and hover, I have to hop into the abyss and cast shift to hover.
Those 2 changes, while nice, don't really help Void do anything over the abyss.
Meanwhile half the cast seemingly never has to glide, meaning I never get an opportunity to spike them.
I'm not expecting Void to be abyss combat god, but it almost feels like Void simply isn't allowed to participate in that aspect of the game, and I'd argue that there shouldn't be characters that are virtually disallowed from interacting with certain mechanics if those mechanics are going to be so core to the gameplay.
I completely agree with that, especially the last line, there should never be a character that cannot really interact with a part of the game.
there shere should never be a character that cannot really interact with a part of the game.
I'd argue that, if there is such a character in a game, then they should probably be really strong in some other part. I'm not really sure how that would work in this game, though.
I think checks and balances for balance in certain parts of the game is important, but it should completely exclude them from it
