I redeemed my friends link and got the game downlaoded. Whhen I load in, I don't have any characters so I can't play the game.
I have tried making another account. Interestingly, my friend logged into his account that works on my computer, and he didn't have any characters. This is an interesting problem because something about my computer is broken so that characters don't load. I play other online games fine.

This is correct. I logged in on my laptop and am able to play. It is computer specific.

Yes, I re installed, and then reinstalled again on a seperate drive. (complete reinstall, both launcher and game)

Me personally, i would try using revo uninstaller and uninstall it and then use the advanced option and scan to delete remnant files and then re-install, if thats a route your looking to go (im not a dev so its not a confirmed work around) but im going to tag @icy gull becuase imo this is an interesting case i havent come accross yet.
