#Work-In-Progress Paint Jobs
1 messages · Page 3 of 1
Went for a horror themed Micoani. The gloss helped make things look like muscle tissue
Check out my cool @moonbreaker paint job!
nightmare fuel!
I'll trade you a skin for it tho when you're done! I love zombies and the plant looks so cool the way you've done it @ripe galleon
It is pretty much done I think
I'm not one for overdetailing lol
at least not while I dont have a tablet to use for it
Somewhat inspired by the blue Lightning Paint-job posted here recently here is my take on Sol:
I would appreciate some pointers for the armour, i am not completely happy with that part yet
Getting a good feel for metal on this one, really like it
imo I'm getting a sort of Bioshock vibe from the skin with the drill, it's a fun notion I just had when I recalled their drill.
the art deco dwarf look too
I think it needs to be roughed up with a coating so its not so polished. I'd also suggest creating more contrast on the main body, more areas of darkness, so that the light parts stand out more and makes it overall less busy?
Stick with the dry brushing, its working very well!
I wonder what kind of paintjobs devs are running 🤔
I've got a metal you might be able to reference for your piece, but NMM is kind of tricky up to you.
NMM? Do you mean me?
You can do similar things with metalics and changing the colors to larger gradient leaps
so this one you can break into 4
4 big value shifts
Adds alot of really nice texture to things while still being one solid thing
You don't even really need to go ALL the way with it, just a lil bit of different values makes all the difference
Really annoying masks on this darn hero! I'm getting there though also Droids you're a fiend I see so many schemes you do in pieces and haven't gotten to see em finished
uh finishing them, yes 😅
been forcing myself to look at it ingame every once in a while, alot of stuff doesnt translate due to lod and the light engine can vary per map
Spoiler: Might creep some people out already
I'm also working on a xuna scheme!
Thought this told a better "I'm a rebel commando" vibe.
Lucky shot missed the worst.
angle's too direct gotta re do it : /
Eh who cares.
Oh drat, the skin is tanner then what I've got here...
On the OG
Idk what you're doing but I know it'll be good
@merry zinc just messing around with crazy source lighting effects
would be nice if they implemented an ingame model viewer within the painting zone to check out whats lost with the lod decrease instead of needing to open up the testing mode
Bro got that half & half
Is it just me or are the base models veeery bright? If i paint them how i prefer they always end up far darker than the rest - looks you have a similar "issue" (if it even is one) @timber dragon
sings one of them is not like the others sings
Mines are usually darker since I base coat with forbidden black and apply all colors with dry brush, it helps keeps the texture of the original model
the base paintjobs just go ham with brigther colors to pop out details
Wait, you want to tell me the paint-mode is so "real" that it adds thickness of color-coats?
Or how do you mean "keeping the texture"
Trying to match the in-game seems like a frustrating experience
Although at one point them being made brighter was an update
Because it's meant that they stand out more
yeah alot of the ingame ones don't take small shortcuts, they go in and place everything
they do everything to make it all show
I'm enjoying the heck out of trying to solve Xuna's paint job, but man that masking was intimidating at the start.
some stuff might've changed just very slightly too which might be the difference maker
I think interesting thing about painting is some people will have different strengths and weaknesses
Some people think robot stuff is easy
And then other people think that the animals are hard to paint while others can pump those ones out in a few hours vs what are the more technical paint jobs
God yeah every animal type creature I try to paint just ends up looking strange
at least plants are a bit better since they have alot of flat areas you can apply metal techniques to
i hate flat areas xD
they are so... boring
Oh and i didnt mean it in anyway like "Oh look at me, i didnt have any issues" - i was more really curious to understand where you found it troublesome as i love the model completely - so more or less pointing towards the same phenomen of different preferences and strengths
I just really have difficulty making color transitions natural, like the base one does it really well but when I give it a go it all feels disconnected, and I really enjoy flat areas because it gives me the opportunities to give it my own lil flare
give me a large enough zone and I can make some silly things
thats some nice "silly things"
Awesome, I'm flattered my design inspired someone else 😊
Great scheme like the gold n white, I might have to change my armor color because the og is also teal
and i got a glitch now lol
No!
Is there any solutions for this? I had it on a captain skin I was doing and was really frustrated
Going to be streaming my NMM golden goat here's the WIP so you can paint along https://www.moonbreaker.com/en/paint-jobs/Dwarving/5279849db4e9496aa80d199a2b6fcf0f?backend=experimental
Check out my cool @moonbreaker paint job!
@upbeat helmmy solution is to run with it
Its medication related tbh it just sunk into my system
almost back to where i had it
It's a good effect, Please tell me you're not using the dry brush tool, that thing takes a tone of strokes.
#1204764567771553893 Decided to run a competition winner takes all...its a painting tournament!
Participants get the finalized version of my Golden NMM Ovix skin, the only venue I will be sharing the final version will be in this contest.
For reference this is it currently... it's a race against time... for me and everyone else to finish by the 17th!
There is some drybrushing and it dosent take as long with my stylus as the pressure sensitivity is something you will never get with a mouse
I do have a wacom/ stylus, but I like light pressure, because I don't want to wear nibs too much. Maybe my settings are slightly off.
Im just glad i glitched that one and not one of the ones that i have 30 plus hours on
I had a glitch on Saveri... I try to keep multiples but I forget some time... I would be scared if one of my old skins with multiple hours would get lost...I think i'm proficient enough now to not feel as daunted by it, but for newer painters it's a definitely a crushing thing. Hope they resolve it sooner then later.
fully agreed
Finished up my Zax, I was curious if applying material coats would make me happy with the finish, it was a little dim... well I think the smoke at the bottom might change but the glow paints staying.
dry brushed the coat remover much better
Who the F had the great idea to not separate the seams from the coat, mask-wise xD
such a tidious job
Just wait till i finish this pasta monster
I'm going to imagine the design of the painting system was very much a learning experience
It was also an og model. The new ones have better separations. If your really good you can just ignore auto masking anyway. I personally rarely use it since real minis do not have it
Masking paste? Is it different than using a sticky putty? What's a brand you recommend?
Im german - i dont know what particular terminology fits best - but basically i meant something like sticky putty (dont know any particular brand as i dont use it myself - just know a lot of people who love it, especially with airbrushing)
To me masking is almost not worth it as it takes double the time do accomplish the same without it. It does help from getting overspray if airbrushing though but there are plenty of ways around that also
It does let me do some cool gradient setups without painstakingly doing it by hand
I’m guessing he meant putty.
I have this putty from green stuff that works well. I don’t use it a lot though
The can on the left is the best brush soap I’ve ever found. It blows Masters away
Oh rly? better then masters? Sick
where do you get it?
kk
It’s on the label there if you forget
The owner is a hobbies painter, his wife just came up with it and he was blown away how good it was. Everyone I’ve recommended it to says it’s the best they’ve ever used too
Sick
used it on a sable?
natural fiber brush?
Sounds legit
I'm loving this tarnished look... it's dead easy to make too, just a bit of grunt work scrubbing on a dry brushed brown. Just loving the sort of red sky vibe this ones got.
I have used it on natural and synthetic, both great
I also really like their brushes too. They’re the best mid range prices brush I’ve found
I’ve only used their kolinsky sables though, haven’t tried their synthetics
That’s so good
Did Jax used to have a rabbit instead of that robot?
I uploaded a Jax model and I can open it when I upload it but the actual model doesn’t exist on the roster
He has 2 variations, one you'll need to own via either the founders pack or what I believe is now the collector pack thing?
Ohh ok
I looked at that but $20 is really expensive for a skin pack
So I didn’t look that closely lol
I bought it solely to support the devs but I'll admit.... I love my skins.
'' ill just paint this real quick" i said to myself...one week later, still on the quick paint job
the gills work for some bizarre reason
The graining on that center bit is insane
@rocky dawn in game if you keep that level of detail you may find it loses some resolution, my astra got a noticeable drop in EA and it improved a decent bit in launch.
My first paintjob. I've never been into painting, but the game dragged me into it. It's very basic compared to what I see here, but I had a good time doing it so far)
Changed the beard color right after posting, seemed off
@upbeat helm really. Im new here so thanks for the info
@merry zinc Very vibrant skin like it a lot
Need to steal that, its a style that I've been to lazy to do just wanting to get em done n out the door. Really do like it.
Skin colored Crash kinda makes me wanna make some sort of desert roster
I was just goofying around - but it works so well 🙂
I tried a skin color on him way back and It just felt goofy because it highlights the fact he is wearing underwear
I just so happened to work on my axl pyro in case I need to burn those heretics... I mean flesh monsters you uh are making a team of...
"Why does it smell like BBQ in here?!"
Nooo - i cant unsee it now... FUUU
Oh thats a nice scrap metal look
used the color palate nmm copper
spelled that wrong I think
got some of that patina color in as my shadow
hmm, maybe just a small teeny-tiny bit
better I think!
well at least I know its there hah! It's tough to see it because of this darn models tiny scale!
Yeah I have so many schemes in mind but still refining my teams for them lmao
Noice
WIP for a cinder themed Saveri
Trying real hard not to add to many colors. this is my first time trying to paint anything digital, so any tips would be appreciated!
Oh nice sword effect
No! not to him! he doesn't deserve it! He's done nothing wrong!
you monster!
Stippling fun
Hey its not my fault that the mask goes over his whole body as if hes naked under the armor xD
You keep inspiring me to go the extra mile on this axl pyro bud so keep at it!
My Squad Scheme
White, gold, and purple are good colors
Very nice!
Trying to see if I want blue
trying something new for the eyes
really hard to figure out if I want to do stippling to the max or save myself from myself and let some of it just be blocked in. I think I'm gonna save myself from myself...
Stippled effect isn't great on smaller paint chipped spots, might just re do it for more control.
h
Restarted from a few spots myself due to washing the copper looking bits accidentally before saving... at least I only lost a little progress
The nice thing is I can just eye dropper from one version to the next and get up n going pretty quick, losing an entire version to a corruption is a real bummer mate. I wonder if you can share bug reports with em if that would get it solved quicker?
A certain someone said to steal colors off of other og skins, and I think they're right it's a good easy answer.
The way I see it, it's already proven to work
the skin here is off of turo
ripping through this! I really want to burn those fleshy abominations! (this is mostly a joke)
Saw a piece of tape and was like heck... I can free hand it sure why not... I don't think at this tiny model scale that it does a lick of good but I did it.
Gonna scrap it
maybe something close to this
had more fun with it but I still have to scrap it again
needs to be a solid block of color, maybe some bleed through light source stuff but thats at most
almost works at scale maybe tuning it will help
khaki pants is a first for me but I think I'm getting the hang of it.
A while ago, a great artist made rain soaked blood bowl ork cloth, that's kind of what I'm channeling right here. That sentiment is really something I got closer to.
Love me them red beards
I like it!
All of their weapons pop out during their skill animation
so whatever you color here will appear there
its so nice
Thanks for the heads up, thats really neat
I swear there needs to be like some info compiled of how paintjobs can impact abilities or something like that
I believe wreti wrangler's lil dudes, fatetwister's masks depending on buffs/debuffs, peacemaker balam's fruit thing, taria's little bots, cocoleh's summon ball things, deadeye's monkey friend, crankbait's glove, zuna's bird and bug
there might be more but those are the ones I could find
the way the model is shown ingame, you can't see the face unless you use ctrl to zoom in, its kinda cool putting emphasis on the hat
yeah the face is a lil bit difficult to get right, especially since dry brushing is so odd on it
uuuh nice
Look at it ingame, it loses so much due to lov reduction
Oh yeah that looks nice
Such a fun unit to paint, shame their lists are not the most optimal for now
unfortunately i tend to draw my stuff very dark/grimey/realistic so that the guns and weapons flying with their ability are hard to see
Oh I had a similar issue, its just that the guns are 3d models and the wash completely covers the bottom side of them
angle the camera so you're inside the model and paint from there
if you want to avoid the weird half dark weapons
I think that toxid might be my favorite, the white shell reminds me of some warcraft beetle I've seen concept of
Damn man
The right eye color is soo difficult to find for me so i always fall back to my "normal" way
Purple is so impactful as a color
The hammer purple is working so well to me.
Abs!
decided to start hammering away at my macaroni thicket . wish me luck lol
Gotta love glossy pasta 😋
Can prob make the meatball have that oily glow then have the cheese on top just be not glowing
alot of work for barely noticeable details

@timber dragonyes, i just glossed up my cheese
it makes some things too easy now lol
When is the link for this one coming out?
@drowsy pulsarwhen and if i ever get it done, its way more work than my scaled snareling and i still have numerous ones that need touch ups before i can share them
Intended to become part of my army for my "Sol'Fulmen" lightning reflavor of Sol'Aeturn. This is draft 1. Lots of color corrections to do, but it was fun to put this together.
Wow! That looks so cool!
TONS of work to do to this one still, but this one is fun to paint!
This looks so sick! Great job!
Continuing my series! Excited to get some Glow Coating on this one!
Orange
Is this airbrushing?
I like this more than anything else you posted
take it ^^
Check out my cool @moonbreaker paint job!
and the matching small one
Check out my cool @moonbreaker paint job!
Digital backlog of shame
I have to finish my goat here shortly, it's gonna need some groovey music so I can't stream it, but yeah it does take a certain level of grunt work once the fascination of the process wears off.
lots of progress on the ol goat
In progress for another in my "Fulmen" series! I really need a way to make the tentacles more interesting. Also on the list of things to do: make concrete more detailed, textures for metal parts and pants.
I never knew i needed a Rocksteady N Beebop Jailbreak before 😄
This is really well done coats
Almost done! Mostly just need to fix the tentacles... I'm thinking of going with a darker color for the underside of the tentacles, but I think it's still going to need "something more" even after that... 🤔
lol, happy to provide! 🤣
Coming along quickly now
Almost got the goat done
Working on Savria for my Obsidian team
And they just keep coming and they just keep coming and they...
this is inspired in quetzalcoalth
any sugestion?
still didnt shadow or detail it
Fun colors
This is the best face I've seen you do (that I can remember)
It's the gloss coat more than anything else
Looks great, but her left side is a bit too prominent/the light parts of her clavicle are stronger/deeper than the right side - feels a bit as if she has a crooked face this way, since the lipstick is on the left side of her mouth a bit more refined as well than it is on the right (as well as the lower eye shadow) - this all could be because of the gloss effect and the camera angle as well
Those are nice
I like your design on the left pic
I could really use some advice on this one. I'm specifically looking for advice on the "head" in the center, the panel with the eye and the four panels around it. I'm looking for some kind of color shift and effect that will help the eye travel up and down the figure without being so contrasting that the viewer's eye just gets stuck there (and it clashes). I've tried a lot of different things, but it's just not coming together for me.
Also, I think my attempt at using violet-blue to contrast with the orangeish gold was probably too much of a contrast clash to begin with. Should I completely redo the panels? This was very experimental for me. I do like the gold trim everywhere though, so I'd wanna go with something that works in tandem with that.
There's a lot that's undone as far as the plants go, so ignore those! 😅
The start of a new idea for color scheme. Thoughts? Haven't started on any effects in the outer panels yet, but I'll shoot for something similar to what I had before, using yellow for the stippling this time instead of blue.
Kinda going this direction?
I'm into stipple
I've really only just started
I like the direction that's going!
This guy is killing me, but I'm determined to finish him. Honestly, this particular paint job is probably entirely useless. There's no way it's setting a theme for the rest of my army, and it's pretty garish. That said, I don't have any better ideas for him right now. So, we ball.
There are some interesting ideas in it
Yeah, just sadly none of them are cohesive. I might reprime the entire thing except for the plants and the gold trim. More or less start over. That granite(ish) look up top was hard as hell to get though, lmao. Probably never trying that again!
Gold bird!!! 🤯
That's a very volumetric style for that extilior I like it
Been taking a big break from the game to actually try and apply the techniques in reality. I don't have an airbrush setup yet which is quite a big oof, but gosh its been a lot of fun.
I saw 3d color prints and thought hell this 3d painting stuff does have a future hah! So I'm still interested in keeping an eye to how to use the skills here and tease out how to wallop my brain in traditional to figure out how I reproduce it.
Well physical paints, a brush , some water , a mini and a place to work with some lights would be a good start@upbeat helm
I have to setup a airbrush booth, I've got materials, its more about literally using the hands. My skill is fine enough ...theoretically its just literally these grubby lil hands aren't up to the task. Stability training etc. I've had to use ever lil trick I can get, to get my hands to align with my intentions.
shaky lil buggers
@upbeat helm there is an old trick of repeatedly dunking your hands into ice cold water and then really hot water to deaden nerve endings so your hands wont shake, down side is it lessens feeling. It does work as i did it way back when i was around 15 and my hands are rock steady till this day. Also came in handy( pun intended) with all the carpentry work i did
I've heard of it, but I don't know if its something I plan on putting high on the list yet.
Sculpting doesn't need as fine a hand motion as the stability of the material can sort of brace your hand, so its one of the reasons I don't plan on it for yet.
sick
Started over on this guy. Feeling better overall with the basics here. Much more to do, but I'm hoping this one will stay together as I continue on.
glowy
WIP for my colorsheme of my monsters only army
caus emonsters are fun
also purple goo and copper is fun
Love the themes
I recommend getting forbidden black if you haven't
mixes a bit better to make darker things without washing it out
#painting-chat message
whats forbidden black?
its the darkest black available, left is the default "shadow", right is the forbidden black
ah
my first ever paint job! , trying to have a more noble looking aria, still wip, but im loving this system
I had an idea for Savria where they're holding a cursed artifact, but it's not coming together
you got a cool thing going, dont be afraid to use the other tools or paint outside the margins 🤝
non metalic metal, a lil bit of dry brushing, wash it all with forbidden black then add metalic coat + glow coat, really nice effect
Looks like a really cool idea. I think the gray metal is too bright and therfore looks out of place to the other colors
I think that if you took that deep red color from the staff and created an effect where it is crawling up her arm to her shoulder (and maybe from the ground up her legs to just above the ankles), it would come across pretty well. You definitely have the foundation of this great idea established. I'd say the rest is in the details. I do love the glowing eyes matching the glowing parts of the staff.
This looks really great! Brushing metal with the glow coat is one of my favorite things to do. It makes it look burnished (or like the rest is tarnished, depending on how you do it).
Yeah its really nice, lets alot of things pop
Spamming as much as possible onto Eztil
I like making mine with alot of fake glow bits, texture stuff is fun
looks cool ingame too
If you don't mind my asking, what was the process on this? from what I can tell, that's a base layer of dark orange, a wash of the red, a dry brush of light orange, airbrushed yellow, and the glossy coat?
yeap you pretty much got it, the final drybrush and airbrush were very focused, and its using wash to apply gloss and then dry brush to apply glow
for the base i mixed red/orange and forbidden black, its very nice for it
I restarted and followed most of the same steps, but I think that the raised portions should be cooled rock instead of bright flowing lava, using wash to apply glow and drybrush to add the metal coat. I think it's more in line with my end goal. for the rest of the design, I think the eggs are going to be lava colored while the metal body will be copper, purple, and grey, but that's subject to change.
the purple is mostly because I think Hugo da nerd's Sol'Aeturn slaps
Lava Pic almost has purple in there as far as how it looks to me and maybe that's just how it's lit but maybe if there was some way to add a super tiny bit of really dark purple inside the black that no one would see anyways then it could potentially tie together what you do with the rest of the model
I’m almost thinking of adding a little gold to the cracks in the metal. I can’t decide if it would bring together the main body and the lava or just look tacky
Copy paintjob and give it a test, when working on complex stuff I use an extra copy or 3
Ctrl z freaks out when you go way back
https://www.moonbreaker.com/en/paint-jobs/Evil4lexander/737041d1433d4a0e9b1a903ce407eecf
Would love some advice on how to improve on this,
Just started and "finished" my first crew, I based it off the night lords from warhammer 40K.
Check out my cool @moonbreaker paint job!
I recommend looking up non metallic metal, as the gold loses a lot of detail by being ultra-metallic. I like the mix of the blues, but I wish it was broken up more by lines of gold or red. Well done on the blade too
^ non metallic metals can push it alot, especially when you combine it with the masks
Another thing I like to do is abuse washes and dry brush to make texture bits, did a quick wash/drybrush with similar colors so you can see the difference
base color>dry brush with ligther shade>wash with low opacity with darker shade
example of non metallic with coat vs just base color with coat
can also do thingsl like add glow to the highlight area to push it farther, experiment and have fun 🤝
Wow that is a massive improvement, Thanks for the advice from you both 😄
hyped me up a lil and decided to remake my first ever big paintjob with all the stuff i've learned
More Contrast 😋
this looks sick
Robot of a different era
its alive! Ill finally be able to finish this monstrosity with my newrig
If yall are new or have not seen this yet its called the Macaroni thicket and i have a ton left to do on it
