would be really great if I knew how to play chess
How about we do daily tasks? And weekly slow matches? @silk urchin
Sure, and @thorn pier I am planning to post regular content here which will be short form and will help everyone learn chess. SO be ready! I am going to make this the most active forum
NM Dan Heisman defines Hope Chess as: you make a move without examining your opponent's possible checks, captures, and threats in reply to make sure you have a safe answer next move. Hope Chess is THE thought process mistake that keeps most tournament chess players' ratings under 1700!
NM Dan Heisman has been a full-time chess instructor since...
NM Dan Heisman overviews ways to find slow chess (30 5 and preferably slower with an increment) online via servers like Chess.com, LiChess, and the Internet Chess Club (ICC). He introduces his Online Slow Chess page (https://www.danheisman.com/online-play.html) with links to these various resources.

I dont know i dont wanna play rated chess anymore
why?
Lets say Im not improving like i should. My calculation is not getting better. I want to play longer chess.
what improvement were you expecting?
I was expecting chess would be more immersive. And more focused. I think its my fault for not practising enough. But there's too much going on in my life rn. I really wanna quit online chess and play offline chess in some chess club

bro died playing the game
I am starting the Artur Yusupov series
Its a series of books for chess development
First diagram ✅
I just mated this guy in the arabian position
Can you show the move order
I didnt mate anyone like that, I was making a pun because I was doing a puzzle based on that motif
this was the position and black to move
I saw this a little too late, still down?
What should we do learn though
Alapin
Hope on break vc and give yourself 45 mins
when?
We did some discussion yesterday lol
Gonna do Puzzles today from the Polgar book
Ping me when you do, I will participate
For the past 45 mins I did 307 mate in ones
Gonna watch the opening principals video
@faint grove hope this helps
no chess today
I didnt do any chess for the past 3 days, today I am gonna read a chess book about instructive games
Going to practice mate in 1s
didnt know this existed
How's it going?
Lets annotate some GM games and play more tactics
Did 100 of those
dang gg
What do you guys think of this move
The discovered attack is a good idea, but moving the bishop to that square is not, because there is a knight gaurding that g4 square along with the bishop, by simple counting black has more defenders to that square and thus we lose a piece
@proven bone Wanna study Queens Gambit and its counterplay?
Later, around 4pm
Sure
@ryomiura bro any videos on Daily chess?

how can i become good in chess? @faint grove
The answer is complex really. Being good at chess is comprised of two things: 1) How good is your rating 2) How good is your understanding of chess. If your ratings high and understanding low, you're not such a great player, cause even if you have a higher status you'll crumble against a hard working opponent. If your understanding is great but your rating is low. Its really okay. Cause even if you play with someone rated Higher than you, you can enjoy chess.
Theres 3 things i can tell you-
- Play matches, Long matches, short matches, rapid. Unless you play, nothings going to change.
- Tactics and puzzles, a big part of chess is pattern recognition.
- Study, if you have not played chess before, I wont explain this it may sound too complicated. Ill send some videos later if you want to embark on this journey. But listen, Chess is one of the hardest games in the world. Its okay if your progress is slow.
thanks! i know the rules and how to play it. i often play with my brother, like my understanding is okay, but i dont usually win
Wanna play with me when youre free?
maybe next week, i have some imp quiz to study for now

i've started using Queen's Gambit and im making some progress, with practice comes mastery, on it 💪
how to learn new openings in chess? I think just watching the videos and trying to apply them doesn't help.
practice more, if u memorize something itll be in your memory for short-term but if u use the knowledge practically, itll stick with you for quite a long time
I'm going to be alot inactive because of my studies. And I'm not playing chess actively now.
Queen's Gambit going strong
i forgot
hello
heck yeah there's a chess forum!!!
GG @ocean ingot, you just advanced to level 1! 🥳

i've been using it for a while
has worked pretty well for me
but i've stuck with it cause im a beginner, prob why, i havent explored many other openings
