IMO the first image looks better

and allows for pointier ships
not to mention allows designers to use the overlaping mecanic without making their ship too slow and easy to kill

I don’t really like the idea of changing shields because current designs were built on the 3 radius version

Also, I find that restriction spurs creativity to solve problems.

Might be nice for 15x15 customs because 7+7 is 14 but 9+9 is 18
