Yes I know.
What I mean, is to add two major teams in place of the fleet system.
Basically, the game features do not align with a massively FFA game and the fleet system make only the fleet OP.

the best way for that to work wouod be a 2nd official server that is larger & you choose which team, each team has a safe zone as a base and a couple rigs to prevent complete camping
that would create the issue of minelayers so the team who’s safe zone it is should be able to shoot out but not get shot back

it is also how #zentakil already operates (one team per species).
FWIW, we prefer to make big changes in new games to gain experience with them before applying them to existing games

If the team idea in zentakil works out and you decide to look into this it might be cool to have a super rig that is massive in the base (the idea is to prevent lvl 1 spawn camping, though oil tankers, ice (and terrryfox), dredgers, and minlayers should be addressed
