I’ve been seeing a lot of people on social media saying that they will be continuing to boycott Riize but they will be supporting Seunghan’s solo debut. I understand why many briize want to support Seunghan’s solo debut as everyone, (myself
included) wants to see him succeed.

However I personally believe that this is a situation that has grown past Seunghan, this boycott is not only about SM’s mistreatment of Seunghan and their failure to protect their Idols, it is about the toxic nature of Korea’s fan culture. If people allow this to be the resolution of the SM/Riize boycott, SM wins, toxic knets win, and the people who were sending Seunghan death threats wins. The message that will be sent to SM is that they can make whatever choices they believe will make them the most money, and deal with the backlash later. This way they get k-briize money supporting Riize as 6 while also getting International Briize’s money through support from Seunghan’s debut. The toxic knets who wanted Seunghan out of Riize will also see this as a win because Riize would continue as 6. As long as the people who lead a hate campaign against Seunghan feel that their methods were successful, they WILL do it again.

To me this is a matter of human rights and fair treatment for Idols. I don’t believe I will be able to support Seunghan’s debut in good faith because I believe it sends the message to SM that they got away with it, and they can get away with it again. They have failed to protect their idols and prioritized Korean fans complaints over their Idols well being time and time again. They’re doing it now with the NCT Dream situation. This is a problem that has existed within the kpop industry for years and years and it needs to stop.
