I've been experimenting with material juggling on PC. Here's Echo Stalker Light Hide on the chest and waist even though it's not normally an option.

Requires:

1. The actual item you want to change the material of, with the rarity tint you want (since you can't overwrite it with cosmetics).
2. Another item for the same slot.
3. A Visual cosmetic for the slot that uses the material you want.

Steps

1. Equip the item you want to be wearing. E.g. Dyer Waistwrap.
2. Apply a Visual cosmetic for the same slot that uses the material you want. E.g. Field Waistcloth with Lionberry Fiber.
3. Equip the other item for the slot. E.g. any other waistcloth
4. Remove the cosmetic.
   The item should now show the material you chose even if it's not normally an option for that item.
5. Re-equip the item you want to be wearing. E.g. Dyer Waistwrap should now have Lionberry Fiber.
   It (and all other items in the slot) should now display with the material you picked.
