#Make a "How to fix rounds" channel in "important"
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
have you seen how many places it's written. it's pinned in #mod-bug-chat , it's pinned in #general , it's linked to in #🚧get-help🚧 , there's even a massive message in the #📑rules📑 channel pointing you in the right direction.
newcomers don't read shit, most people don't read shit. if they won't take the time to read the rules, or do the bare minimum effort of checking if their questions been answered, they're not checking other places either.
all it will do is add more clutter to the server saying the exact same thing that is said in half a dozen other places. it likely isn't worth the effort.
Adding onto what Tessy said, (my) issue isnt the fact its being asked, my issue is the fact its being asked by people who have just joined the server, or more really, have joined since the 8th of march.
When joining a server, you should read the rules. That's common sense.
Slightly less common, if theres any issue, i personally, would check the pins in the server's general chat.
its pinned in #1012171929484009603, its pinned in #general, along with all the other places tessy mentioned; theres no need for another place to put it that will just be skipped over, just like #📑rules📑 is being skipped over.
I only don’t check pins due to the fact that this is never really something that is pinned in most other servers I am in
Well, even tho it's present in a lot of places we still have a problem.
I think since they can find "general" they'll probably be able to find another line in the list.
We really don't know how much my solution will resolve the problem until it's tried. You and me aren't a newcomers so just assuming how they are is bound to be incorrect.
And, ofc, it'll not resolve the problem completely but if it'll reduce the number of questions by even 10% I say it's worth a line of clutter
I think since they can find "general" they'll probably be able to find another line in the list.
I think, since they can find "general", they'll probably be able to find "rules"
Correct me if I wrong but it looks like you feel "Why should the server do it for them if they can't do a bare minimum for the server."
I see that position and agree that it would be better if they just found it themselves
I'm not saying it's ok if they ignore the rules
nah, at this rate we might want to force all new comers to read the rule and FAQs, locking everything else behind those pages and if they insist on asking those same question again after all that (showing obvious sign of i don't care/don't read-skipping ahead) that'd be a yellow card
also a good measure to ward off bots that joining in just to spam
good solution, one stone two problems
impossibly heavy boulder.
how would you force people to read the rules and FAQ?
that would require a role to be created, and then applied to 1000s of users, would it not?
I mean, it's a nuclear option but if they didn't even care to take time to read what is effectively thrown on-yer-face important note and answer to their question....
well let just say we all tried all the solutions and all tired already, there's no way to cooperate with user if they just don't care
There used to be a 10 minute wait time for this server, you couldn't type in any of the channels or join any channels until the time passed
they did it! (almoust)
hm?

#🚧game-broken🚧
not in the "important", but it being by the general chat probably is even more effective
strange, the message in there is from 2 days ago, no?
it is
it used to be different
but those channels have been there for a VERY long time
even before this thread was created?
i created 4 channels around #general that pointed people to the rules and megathread months ago
other admin came in from a hiatus because there was drama around the topic, and deleted those channels to replace it with just #🚧game-broken🚧
the issue has never been reading comprehension or lack of information, there are simply meatheads that refuse to read anything when joining a server and rush to spew their issue into #general
we've seen it time and time again, people will send their issue in general right after joining when the solution is literally one message prior
real
people who ask about how to fix rounds and havent downgraded, should be given a hefty mute/srs
its in rules, if you dont know how to fix it, you shouldnt be spoonfed, more really, you should be penalised.
thats just my opinion though, and ive had it since march when the original message in #📑rules📑 was sent.

I mean I know right? unless we force their attention such as locking access to all but the rules and FAQs channel them people barely care to read and go straight to asking, and we're getting tired of it aren't we?
maybe leaving only one channel for newcomer to temporarily communicate with us for people do read and follow, but stuck with other issues
and it doesn't help when Discord decide to have the option to show/hide channel and who know what it does by default
solution: make me mod and i fix up the onboarding/hj
no but seriously, the onboarding needs to be fixed
the default channels makes 0 sense
and its not even the staffs fault, discord just is stupid
im decently certain 3d general is there but the info channel isnt
its just weird
and i dont think the channels surrounding general were there by default
reviving thread to add info to this topic (or what this topic has turned into)
i can't change the existing onboarding setup (for example, post join questions)
the questions simply don't exist for editing. I can add new ones that don't actually take effect (in the preview, at least)
i think there's a chance the server's bugged and will have to reach out to discord
that or i'm a silly old fart who has trouble with technology, idk about that one though
idk man i'm big into IT, but maybe you're right
i do know that i set up the onboarding as soon as it was available as a pre-release feature, so maybe that caused an issue
