fun fact of the day in honour of the gymnastics team final - the USA back in the 70’s were one of the main teams that pushed and pushed for the gymnastics rule that means only 2 gymnasts per country can qualify for finals (because at the time, they weren’t very good) so it gave more opportunity to other countries outside the power houses. this then got extended from apparatus finals to the all-around in 2004. fast forward to 2024, and the US team would very very likely have gotten a 1-2-3 in the all around with the strength of their gymnasts, but the 2 gymnasts per country rule has bit a lot of countries in the bottom and they are now up in arms about it 🥰
so jordan chiles is missing out on likely at the least a bronze by qualifying 0.067 lower than suni lee 🫠
