I knew it was highly unlikely that Fritz would win, but it would have been nice to see an American man break the streak. Oh well always next year

I felt like he could have got that third set, but even then the result never really felt in doubt.

People rarely win their first slam final, especially if they’re playing someone who has made a GS final/won one before. And I think the pressure of making your first GS final at your home slam cannot be underestimated, that’s got to have affected him.

Like yeh it’s not been that long since a American man won one in comparison to how long Australia, GB and France had to wait/are still waiting, but any length of time is too long in this context 😂

Before the match it definitely felt more 50/50 depending on how things went. I was worried on how Jannik might handle the crowd and all the recent talk about him and was still wondering about his wrist. But once the match started Jannik was rarely not in control of it.

Despite this loss Taylor still has so much to be proud of these past two weeks. While he may not be the most talked about American he has been the most consistent one. He rose up first and players like tiafoe, Shelton, and Paul came after. I still think out of any of the American men he has the best chance of winning a slam rn

I don’t think Carlos will ever have the consistency we associate (maybe wrongly so, thanks to the big 4) with a top player and a GS champion, he goes on these insane runs, but he’s a streaky player. That’s not a criticism, because his highs are so so so high, maybe it’s just not possible for him to maintain it across the whole season.
