Cider Not Working 'Cider isn't responding. Reload the app?'

installed through MS store and having this issue. Client won't load at all after error message

I navigated to I believe C:\Users<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps<SOMENUMBERS_CIDER> and deleted the 'cider' folders inside the locallow, local, and roaming folders inside the cider program files in that directory.

@winged roost may want to contact a dev for the exact folders to delete to be sure

It has been working fine for the past 7 days since I've started using Cider however all of a sudden it keeps on displaying this message, I've tried reinstalling multiple versions but nothing seems to work anyone got any idea on how to fix this and or what may be causing this issue...

you could try deleting the app data folder for cider and see if that fixes it

or that appdata/roaming/cider

umm try the roaming one first and if that doesnt fix it, delete both

that way its a fully fresh copy of cider being loaded

i've only been deleting the one in local

so that might be why the problem isn't being resolved

in task manager i see it utilizing cpu but then it goes to dead 0

uninstalled using the uninstaller executable and reinstalled

This happens to me as soon as I apply any sort of theme

But it’s been happening for weeks now I assumed this was a known bug

Its a known bug, its caused by Mica suggest you turn mica off if you have any wallpaper above 2048×2048px. And if ur computer is slow, dont bother turning it on as it can suck up a lot of resources and time on startup

Are u using the microsoft store version or the github version? Did you install cider in a custom location?

But mica with vanilla cider is fine, as soon as I apply floaty or something it stops during startup

Ye turn mica off, it dont matter how much fast ur computer is in multicore, as Javascript is single thrradded and the mica implementation is built using javascript, so just imagine having to blur ur hi-res image multiple times every time u restart the app and also on a timer since once the system doesnt respond after a couple of seconds, it treats it as unresponsive and popup shows on screen. Best thing to do is to press cancel, hopefully ur app will startup normally, go yo settings and disable mica till we get to optimize it or till you pick a decently sized resolution for your wallpaper

these are the versions i've tried installing

again, i've hit cancel and waited restarted my computer made sure to delete all files before reinstalling and made sure that nothing is blocking cider from the intrenet

Its cuz mica and themes are loaded before app render, they are given a timer till system flags as unresponsive. The more themes you have, the slower your startup is and the higher chance of cider failing to launch

These are all installers, do you know the actual location of your cider install. Ex: C:\Program Files(x86)\Cider\cider.exe

If you install cider through winget it also deletes everything related to cider on ur pc

Yes so i want you to open a command prompt window, and on there i would want you to run %localappdapa%\Programs\Cider\cider.exe then copy and paste all the stuff the program outputs until you receive the popup, place it here in this chat so i can link other devs to assess your problem

Cache was removed, it wasn't that useful and produced a buggier experience, cuz as soon as you would change your wallpaper with the app loaded (or in the background) it'll mess up mica and always show you the wrong background

Then open a new command prompt window. On it type winget uninstall CiderCollective.Cider && winget install CiderCollective.Cider

when i first used it it counted the gh and ms store as installs

so when i installed it it automatically uninstalled my GitHub version

even if i didnt install it through winget
