#Party Mode (Full Screen with Remote QR Code)
74 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
the whole point of party mode is that everyone adds their own songs to the queue and it plays in order
so play later and add to queue become the same thing
Maybe options to only allow people to queue one song at a time
And allow queuing next or only last
any updates on this?
it would be dope to have a web-based remote
like trying to get people to download an app to control would be a pain
the remote is web based
A 2nd full screen mode curated towards being shown on a TV during a party, "Party Mode". Ideally similar to the current Full Screen mode with album art & lyrics, and possible a small glimpse at the queue (maybe even just 'next song' but with the QR Code for the Web-Remote showing as well.
Web Remote could also be limited to only allowing "Play Next" or "Play Later", and disable the queue moving features from the remote, but still able to see and scroll the full upcoming queue (possibly with a "/party" added at the end of the QR's URL to point it to party mode version - anyone with technical skill (or just the person setting it up) could still loop in with the normal remote URL then also for full control if needed).
I attached a reallllly poorly made mockup I did by stiching screenshots together lol
(Not sure if here or Github feature requests was better to post in - probably github but this area of discord looked like it needed more posts too đ )
I like this idea
me too
gives me quite a few ideas
i likey
Native imo
its beautiful
but i do worry if it's just added with no real granular "security" settings it would cause a dumpster fire at parties
could implement pins
maybe the first cider remote to connect claims "king" and has their IP logged for if it disconnects and controls removing other people's things from the queue
too complex
or pins đ
i didn't even think about that
well i mean you could just generate an auth token and hand it to the king
just every time you scan the qr code on a new device
before you can start adding songs you need a random 4 digit pin
that sounds annoying
maybe fine for like the other people but the device owner should be able to set a master pin
it should just be whoever has made it
can we have U1 chipss đ„ș
yes but how do you f i g u r e o u t who made it when it was on an iphone

admin pin set by well the admin
I started implementing this feature request here. https://github.com/ciderapp/Cider/tree/feature/party-fullscreen
Pin more so for admin - the idea imo is anyone could add songs, but no one but admin would be able to remove / rearrange :p
I think it would be more helpful to change the play options to just âAdd to queueâ so it wouldnât be as confusing
+0.5 I think only the âhost/adminâ should be able to add songs to the beginning of the queue
Apple Music doesn't have or support a 'add to queue' so no
imo there should be a CLI flag to launch Cider in party mode if possible
on a TV that would make it start up ready to use if you add it to the shortcut
i understand, but what i mean is to get rid of the âPlay Nextâ button and rename the âPlay Laterâ button to âAdd to Queueâ so its less confusing. especially for spotify users.
But then that is misleading and lying to you, adding to queue means it will play the song before any songs already in the normal queue but after any songs you added. Apple Music doesnât support this, you can either play next which will play the song next or play last which sends the song to the back of the whole queue
If you rename play last to add to queue then itâs misleading you since itâs not adding the song to the queue is it?
^ agreed, I personally think the current implementation is less confusing and I'm also coming from spotify
"Add to Queue" isn't Apple Music and would be less descriptive of what it's actually doing. Play Next / Play Later as the Apple Overlords have deemed should continue to be unchanged, imo
Now - if Apple Music would add a "Add to Queue" that works like Spotify --- or if Cider does itself -- that would be neat đ
nah play later will add the song to the end of the queue
if you play a playlist with 100 songs and play a song later, it will send it to the back of the playlist so you have to wait 100 songs for it to play
does add to queue not do that?
no lol
this isnt spotify
its a completely different system
spotify only adds onto what you have added to the queue
if you play a playlist with 100 songs and add a song to the queue, it will play next, if you add another song, it will be played after that song you just added, whereas 'play last' will send it to the back of the playllist
different thing
Idk how cider handles its queue, but it could be split into 2 queues, a âbase queueâ and a âuser queueâ - then Add to Queue could be added and it adds songs to the back of the user Queue, and cider could just always check if user queue has any songs in it and plays that next if so, or if empty, returns to the base queue (whatever playlist or songs added with play last etc).
Might be grounds for a separate feature request there tho
I personally think it would be better keeping the queue behavior as is, keeping it in line with native apple music apps
For a party - having a proper interjected queue is, imo, better tho. Otherwise anytime someone wants to add a song, theyâre either adding it at the end (could be hours later), or up next, and skipping whoever else has added a song before them
