#Why Do Youtuber's Timelines Look Like This

I understand it may just be clickbait. but i'm curious. My adobe timeline is always pretty neat with some elements here and there, but a lot of famous youtubers will show their editing time line, and they'll have segments where they'll use A2 and V2 and have nothing in A1 and V1. What is the purpose of that? why not stack it all into a nice neat pile?
Picture 1 is a nearly completed video of mine
Picture 2 is a clickbait thumbnail as an example of what i've seen timelines look like

So it looks more complicated and attract more viewers I think

sure in the thumbnail yeah

#

but i'll see the same thing when a youtuber will do a quick cutaway to them editting a video

I actually do it cause it’s easier than trying to fit everything on one timeline, especially when you have a lot of different footage/audio clips you’re putting together or if they overlap some. Especially with audio, it’s good to overlap them some cause it sounds better and doesn’t cut off quickly

Albeit mine never end up quite as crazy-looking as the ones in the second image

#

Btw depends on niche as well, animation videos or ones with fancier graphics could definitely end up more complicated like that

yeah I kinda figured it was just to make it easier

#

My form of content is normally chopping up 1 long footage video

#

and J cuts are important too i just wouldn't find much use for them

Professional Editor and Content Creaor here:
The way I work every track is for a specific purpose.
A1 Main Audio A2 Voice Over A3 Music A4 SFX ...
The same for Video depending on how much graphics you have in your video it can stack up fast.
Not putting everything on the same track also allows you to move things around easier.

But overall it serves the point of quickly being able to identify a given clip.
Hope that helps

thank you that was what I really wanted to know. I had figured everyone had their own style and that it was for organizing.

#

I may have to build my own system of things like that to help out with editting

And possibly look up video editing workflow.
There is lots of good info out there

Loads of options, depends on workflow, transitions, effects and stuff

#

Yours is flatline, add text, boxes, vfx/greenscreen effects, and you'll get this timelines

If a track is almost empty it might be because it’s only for a couple sfx, risers or small things like images

#

Obviously everyone has their own techniques but sometimes it’s stretched to look better, or just to be more organized idk
