Hey everyone! I'm a food content creator and my latest video dive's into Chicken Biryani, an infamous chicken and rice dish in South Asia. I'd love any feedback on my video (good and more importantly bad!)

Love connecting with this group and feel free to let me know if there's some content I can provide feedback for you!

firstly food looks noice : )

#

secondly, i dunno how people would feel getting a mix of info and recipe in one vid?

#

its kinda confusing imo

#

Viewer reinactment: i’ve sat down clicked your vid in my kitchen tryna learn how to make the dish right. But then im suddenly being taught about the history.

#

now dont get me wrong - learning about cultures is awesome (i mean that) but the PURPOSE of the video (or at least suggested by the title) is a “step by step guide” - not a history lesson

#

i feel like (particularly in the intro) it would be better to have you cooking and telling about the history SIMULATANEOUSLY - best of both worlds then!

#

hope that helps : )

Hey @dense stag thank you so much for the feedback and taking the time out of your day to provide some feedback.

That’s new and fresh perspective that I’ve actually never thought about and will consider going forward. Preciously I made a video with the similar format and it did really well, it I could see how a view could be turned off by a history lesson.

Def hear you on the intro and explainer part that could have been better!

As someone with a (new) cooking channel who has long consumed a lot of content in this niche, I think you need a bit of work on the edit. And I say this as someone who is still very much working on my own editing skills.

For example, in the intro ... "I'm going to give you a step by step" ... <then you break in to a bunch of quick cuts with no voiceover that made me think something was wrong with the playback> ... "of how you can make this dish at home".

Also on the edit, you've slowed down a lot of the footage during the cooking process, when you could have gone the other way and sped it up/cut a lot of it out. The result (for me, anyway) is that it doesn't hold my attention the way you want it to, and I find myself wanting to skip ahead or watch it in 2x speed.

So you could probably have cut this down by 50-75%, still conveyed everything you were hoping to, but with a lot more punch.

Certainly the speed and style is up to you, but if you look at a lot of other cooking channels, the most popular videos tend to be shorter, with a lot less fluff.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Scott! Great feedback and insight. Appreciate you taking the time.

Yes for the "step by step" I was trying a film technique that I researched and clearly it didn't catch (haha) but I appreciate how that made you feel as a viewer!

I definitely agree with the slow mow, I think it works well in times, but probably not for the full duration of the video.

Im curious on who you explore in the food content scene, would love to check them out. As well as check out your channel!

I think there's a lot of low hanging fruit that can be improved i.e. lighting, music, and hiring an editor to bring it life. Really look into setting up a bit more of a professional setup in your home, you will get taken more seriously. Show a peak of what video are going to get, but have a more powerful hook, i.e. I create this, using a special ingredient that gives the Biryani a 'earthy' taste or something

@sturdy mountain I personally think you should watch Ranveer Brar show for the kind of content u are going to...
cuz he is a chef who makes food but also gives info so looking up that u can actually learn how to give info...
like what he does is..he says about the history of the dish when he is actually letting the food simmer or marinate or anything like that and for that specifically he chooses a different setup so that the viewer can follow up the cooking and look at the history and learn it when their food is also simmering...
I think this should help ya

#

i think instead of showing the history in the beginning and turning people off.... start with the recipe and show it when U are giving the dum of the biriyani

also I personally think in the thumbnail you cld have exposed the juicy chicken a bit more for better audience interest....and placed the stuff with your raita and salan so as to give the picture of the perfect meal(this is my personal opinion)
