Finished boxing this tonight. It shouldn't fit in a 1590B, and wouldn't without the SPST footswitch, but it "just" makes it. I don't know what it is about this pedal, but it just fits right for my playing style. The touch dynamics are great.

Maybe an enclosure shot at some stage, but it's all about the guts right?

It's my own layout from a trace by Kanengomibako:

nice. maybe some clips for "the rule"?

#

shouldn't fit? challenge accepted. does a 3pdt not occupy the same space as the relay board?
have you thought about turning the pots 180 degrees? not having them stick out doesn't force you into top jacks, you know in case someone else has accepted that side jacks are the Truth and wants to use the layout...

#

now that's how you bias the input, recalling the other day. it's basically a bluesbreaker with additional tone controls. "tube" lol.
two 10k in parallel is a 4.7k in my book

#

r37 doesn't seem useful. I like the rest, nothing crazy, just a nice OD

All knobs at 50%, "clean" amp to begin. Watch the volume jump.

#

3PDT won't fit with the length of the PCB, as it is, the SPST is flexing the board but it's just for me so 🤷
And nobody is forcing me to top mount, just an opinionated design choice (like the pots and trying to have all the e-caps in the same direction. Sideways pots make me feel a bit weird. 🙈

open radish

not sideways, upside down. could reduce the footprint and leave the option for both layouts

Then the knobs would be smack middle of the enclosure? I have oversized hobbit feet..

open radish
#

well, not with side jacks 😜

#

but i guess that's not a compromise you want to make for yourself

gaunt axle

Did you not see the sexy IO board? I have about 40 more of those jacks to get through 😄

open radish
#

it's fine, in case i want to try one of your layouts i can just offboard those pots

They're the smallest jacks you can get for a decent price (Daier via AliExpress), I have some Amphenol slim jacks but they're wider on one side.

open radish
#

they're pretty compact. some open frame ones could be smaller but not by much

gaunt axle
#

The smaller Lumbergs are larger but work for most things. I have a to-do to make these work in 1590A "easily".

lately I've been using some cheap ones that are about the same size, except an extra 5mm of pins poking from the end, so they're a bit long. they're good for his cheap they are though. the sides are closed the end is open

it's feasible, but I'm good for now, thanks

I guess it is. I am so used to worthless Slack announcements that I haven't caught everything yet 😄

finally had a chance to listen to it. seems good.
your "clean" amp isn't far from what I'd get with a pedal like this 😆

gaunt axle
#

Lazy playing without warming up, but that's what my demos sound like..
The amp is a blessing and a curse. It always sounds like a JTM45 (or plexi if there's enough gain), so it's tricky to hear the pedal sometimes. But I love the sound (even the flubby low end). I should build/buy a clean headroom Fender some day..

open radish
#

you have a sapphire don't you?

#

just keep the gain down

gaunt axle
#

Or run the sapphire into my load box and IR loader 🙂

#

I have a few other amps as well, just lazy to get them out.

open radish
#

sapphire doesn't need a load box. beauty of transistors 😊

It is lovely. I need to do a bit of a dive into that, I get the pop when I turn it on (same with the simple mixer), so a solution to that would be nifty. Same problem I get when I turn on my guitar rig without having my monitors off.

open radish
#

for the mixer and the monitors, it's good practice to keep the volume down when you plug in or turn on an input, or less properly but still effectively set them up before turning the amplifier on

#

same thing for the sapphire, but if it bothers you there's a simple trick in the blog post

gaunt axle
#

I'm just lazy and have the rig setup with a smart plug and Alexa. I just need to setup a second smart plug and have a delayed workflow where the monitor turns on a second later. Why spend 5 minutes fixing something when you can spend 5 hours failing to create an elegant solution..
