๐Ÿ‘‹ The channel is a bit busy right now but let me read and get back to you

#

So part of your understanding is correct here. You are the platform, you have connected accounts, then you can transfer funds to those accounts. You can't transfer funds from connected A to connected account B

#

I don't fully grasp the flow of funds you are describing yet

#

Can you clarify which type of connected account you're using? Standard, Custom or Express?

mighty wigeon
#

@swift crow wanted to make sure you saw my replies

swift crow
#

We're using standard accounts

#

however, it seems as though this restriction about an account receiving funds from only one other account is not the case anymore?

mighty wigeon
#

Not exactly but it's a lot more complex than that

swift crow
#

Before when we tried we would get an error saying account is already connected, but now, it doesn't seem to be an issue anymore

I'd rather focus on your real question. Can you clarify an example flow of funds and who pays what? Then I can show you how to model this

swift crow
#

Sure. After users checkout on Shopify, the funds are sent to a platform account which represents the retailer. These funds are split across two other accounts, A and B. Part of those funds that were sent to A then are sent to B.

#

A bit illogical, ik, but needed for what we're doing

#

Since we were getting that error about "account is already connected", we were forced to create two accounts that represented A, one that would receive funds from the platform and one from B.

#

Though I just found out that that error is no longer coming up, and we no longer need to create two accounts for A like that.

#

Surprised since a Stripe dev had previously told us that those were the restrictions

mighty wigeon
#

hum I'm really confused

#

do you own Account A and B?

#

because you should in theory never be transferring funds to a Standard connected account since you hold all liability for those transactions

swift crow
#

Yes, the accounts are ours / associated with us

#

so no issues with liability

mighty wigeon
#

gotcha

#

so you basically charge $100, got them in your platform, then you send $40 to B and $60 to A, and then A needs to send $20 of the $60 to B?

swift crow
#

That's right

mighty wigeon
#

Okay so what you will need to do here is turn Account A into a platform/enable Stripe Connect and then have B connect to A. Then A can do a transfer (like your platform can transfer to A and B)

#

Does that make sense?

swift crow
#

Yep. I haven't worked on this too closely so I'm just checking with another dev as to what the problem with doing that was

#

But regardless, it seems like this isn't necessary to do anymore

#

are you aware of any changes with how connected accounts work?

#

I'm referring to restrictions on the connected accounts being connected to only one platform account, which don't look like they are there anymore.

mighty wigeon
#

yes that changed recently

#

We tried to enforce it in June 2021, and we got a looooot of feedback like yours so we lifted the requirements again a few weeks ago

swift crow
#

Oh haha

#

okay well I guess that works out then

mighty wigeon
#

ah neat!

swift crow
#

Wanted to make sure that the change was intentional / permanent so that there won't be any issues

#

so sg!

Amazing, glad you have a path forward ๐Ÿ™‚
