Hi 👋 yes you can, though keep in mind their overall experience may be a bit different if you do. They won't have the Express dashbaord available to them like your other connected accounts, and as a standard account they'll have more control over their settings.

Just so I understand this as I have the same question. Stripe won't throw an error when attempting to create an Express account for a email that's already tied to a Standard account?

Hi. On my side, my merchant start the registration (with our system) to create an account. Then after that, normally, we redirect him to the Express onboarding. But, in this case, the merchant is redirected to the lStripe login. So, the OAuth Express onboarding doesn't work.

If I understand, we have to ask him is acct_XXX. And generated an account link in order to link our platform account to his Standard account ? And On our platform account, we will see him in our Connect tab? Correcy @lyric spire

So, on our part, we will see his standard account in our platform. And on his part, he will see more because it's a standard account. But on our side, we will have "access" to his acct_XXX on our platform and it will be possible to make PI with on_behalf_of with the acct_XXX (of the standard account) ?

Yes, but the Standard account will be able to do more than just see more. They'll be able to adjust their account settings including things such as statement descriptors or accepted payment methods.

Sorry, I just remember the other caveat to this. If the Standard account is already controlled by another platform, then when you try to connect them to your platform that process will instead create a new Standard account.

So. they have already a Standard account. How we can add them to our platform account ? How can we process PI through our platform and send it (on_behalof_of) to them ?

#

Or it's just impossible ? Because the merchant don't want a new Standard account.

You can create an Express account for them and onboard them through your regular flow, or you can try to connect their existing Standard account (but depending on the state of that account this may result in a new account being created).

You should be using direct charges with Standard accounts, not destination charges with on behalf of

#

thats not a recommended charge pattern

hot kindle
#

So we can't link their Standard account to our platform account to make PI for them with the on_behalf_of.

#

The ideal way is just to have their Standard account in our platform account. And don't touch the code to send payment (we want to keep the on_behalf_of). So for you it's impossible ?

The only way is to create them a new Express account. But they will have 2 accounts. One standard and another Express account with us.

When you say 'try to connect their existing Standard account' . How we can be sure that it will not create anew account? Sadly they don't want that.

boreal swallow

You can't thats no longer supported unless you're an "Extension" but that doesn't sound like its the case

#

Why would you need two accounts?

#

But thats correct: we do not recommend using destination charges with standard accounts

#

(with or without OBO)

hot kindle
#

We don't want two accounts. We are a solution with platform account / Stripe Connect and Express account. But with have a big merchant that are interested by our solution by they have already a Stripe Standard account. And they want to avoir to have 2 accounts.

#

If it was us, we prefer to create a new Express account. It's simpler

boreal swallow
#

Then that's what you should do, they'd be able to switch between these in their unified dashboard account in the top left corner

hot kindle
#

Not sure to understand what I should do now.

#

Create an express account with the same email address ? Then, they will be able to connect with only one email and switch between the express and the standard account ?

boreal swallow
#

Yep, exactly

#

When they go to onboard with you and express, when they enter their existing account email it will prompt them to log in, and the new express account will be assocated with their existing dashboard account

#

then there is an account switcher they can use in the top left corner

hot kindle
#

OK sounds interesting. And we we will create a Stripe Express account, it will generate a new acct_XXX. And this account will be associated to the email xxx@xxx.com
And, if their existing standard account has already the email xxx@xxx.com, so they will see this menu ?

boreal swallow
#

Assuming they proceed using that email during onboarding yes

#

They need to go through onboarding with the account link, yes

hot kindle

ok thanks
