Hey, does that mean your customer's payment failed but they have confirmed with their issuer bank, and the bank said nothing wrong?

simple loom
#

Yes

#

pi_3JaLwTL7ilRdQXxE0scrRm4j for instance

lament marsh
#

That's weird, the bank is the one refusing the payment. Let me TAL

simple loom
#

I told them that maybe it's a "foreign transaction limit" that the bank might not be aware of since we're a national company

#

But Stripe deducts from Ireland AFAIK

#

I've had that issue multiple times at least

lament marsh
#

Oh that request failed with "insufficient funds"

simple loom
#

I know, they all do

#

When this happens

#

But I can assure you the card has sufficient funds

lament marsh
#

Was that a debit card?

simple loom
#

Yea I guess

#

That's what it says at least

#

Visa debit card

lament marsh
#

That request is telling VISA (the Card Network) declined with

The bank returned the decline code `insufficient_funds`

So, the bank should know the reason, as they are the one declining the transaction. Either the customer was wrong thinking they have sufficient funds, or the bank had some issue

simple loom
#

It's probably the foreign transaction limit again

#

That triggers that error

#

I told them to message the bank again

#

Just wanted to hear if maybe there was something else I could do

#

I know this is probably not something you can do anything about; but having more descriptive decline codes would be helpful. I get insufficient funds a lot when that's not the case

lament marsh
#

Just to clarify, from where you are thinking it's a foreign transaction limit? Some Stripe doc?

simple loom
#

From the bank

#

They impose foreign limits of typically around 4000 dollars per month

#

for regular cards

#

To prevent fraud I presume

lament marsh
#

Well if the bank say that, they should know if this falls into that category .... Hmm

simple loom
#

This bank did not say that, but in my experience this is the issue when this happens

#

so maybe the person at the bank is unaware of this limit

lament marsh
#

ah okie

#

Does this happen with a particular bank, and you see similar case before within that bank?

simple loom
#

I'll see what they say. I suggested to my client that they ask about this speficially

lament marsh
#

There could be a lot of issuer bank

simple loom
#

Yeah this is pretty typical for Danish banks

#

My own bank does it as well

#

Once stuck in france and couldn't pay for anything even though I had plenty of funds

simple loom
lament marsh
#

I meant, there could be different banks, as each customer can have their own bank.

simple loom
#

I know, but we don't have that many

#

most use the same 2-3 banks

#

Not a very big country

lament marsh

Yeah I guess letting the customer ask their bank is the most ideal way to know. To add to the context, we have seen similar ask from merchants, all comes to the conclusion that the issuer bank declined and they should know the reason
