Hey there, this isn't an error I've seen before in the context of our RN SDK
Some initial reading suggest this might be related to invalid view construction with two parents, but I'm not sure
Do you encounter this if you just run our example app, or only in your own app using the SDK?
Annoyingly, I have not been able to reproduce this at all. I've tried on an emulator and a bunch of physical devices but it works as expected.
It's worth mentioning that I have not yet been able to test in production, and our staged apps use a test stripe environment, not sure if that would make a difference though.
Not sure if this stacktrace helps:
[rn-pendo-sdk] State must not be null. any analytics on this screen would be ignored please refer to new installation instruction

java.lang.IllegalStateException: ActiveParent must have a focusedChild
I don't really know enough about the Android internals to interpret that
But taking a step back, i'm confused about you saying you cannot repro this
You seem to be encountering that and capturing error details
Do you mean that it's inconsistent/intermittent?
Or that you can't repro it in any other context than your app on specific devices?
Those are logs from our error reporting tools, but sadly we've not been able to reproduce in testing mode. I am equally frustrated ๐
So it happens a lot for real users, but not for test users.
You have any cases/reports of functionality being blocked during actual usage?
It is a pretty fresh issue so at this stage I'm extrapolating from some session screen recordings, which sadly do not record overlays like the stripe modal.
But in terms of functionality, what happens is that the users cannot successfully link their bank account, and keep retrying. Whatever causes this issue, does not cause the app to crash,
rather it probably closes the stripe modal.
Have you updated the SDK recently, and does the error align with that?
our version is this: "@stripe/stripe-react-native": "0.38.6", which I believe is from September 2024.
That release I mentioned seems to have a fix that could fix our issue, but wanted to see if someone had experienced this before going down that route.
Fixed an issue where launching a Financial Connections flow would fail on Android.
ah, yea, this makes more sense now
The change here is from the underlying android SDK from 21.10 to 21.11: https://github.com/stripe/stripe-react-native/compare/v0.44.0...master#diff-3ab34fb625c346ec8377e7204444075ec41563ca1227c9a231df8c966386de89L6-R6
and the fix described there provides a bit more detail
https://github.com/stripe/stripe-android/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md#21110---2025-04-21
It seems like in some cases there was an additional dependency needed
It's possible that this could potentially be resolved with a native android sdk integration by including that dependency manually, but that's unlikely to be possible via React Native abstraction
yep, it seems to me that the best bet at this point would be to try this Release.
thanks a lot for your time, hopefully this will fix it ๐ค
NP! I hope so too
If not, the next step for you will be trying to figure out a reproduction so that our mobile SDK engineering team can investigate
agreed, thanks ๐
