It's not fired if the payment fails.

Why are you creating a Subscription yourself?
You can instead create a Checkout Session in mode=subscription and the Subscription will be created automatically.

That's what I do, yes.

I wanted to be sure that the checkout.session.completed event is fired only when everything is ok, payment etc.

I have had issue continuing provisioning subscription because a CC was not valid, and the user didn't try again in the past.
