hello! The limit subscription setting is a toggle setting in the Dashboard. A customer will only be able to have one subscription (per email). This detection / check is done by Stripe

it can only detect via email. If you want to check via any other criteria, you need to implement your own logic

there's no real documentation for this because the exact details of the implementation and specific criteria will differ from merchant to merchant. At a high level, when a user attempts to subscribe, you would check if whatever criteria you are looking for already exists in your database, if so, prevent the customer from creating a new subscription
