if you create a monthly Subscription, then the user would pay every month and it would renew automatically, untill the Subscription is canceled.

so if you don't cancel the subscription, it will be renewed every year by default

so I am trying to create something like this ^, the client can choose to commit to a longer period, but they will still be charged monthly instead of a bulk sum of one year fee

then yes, create a monthly subscription, and only alluw users to cancel it after one year.

if they choose the "yearly" option, the automated renewal will be yearly too right?

If you create a yearly subscription, then users will pay once per year and it will renew automatically.
If you create a monthly subscriptions, then users will pay once per month and it will renew automatically.

what if I do the set up as what you suggested - a monthly subscription and allowing users to cancel it after one year, then would the auto renewal be the same?

cos my yearly subscription is paid monthly
