Hello, apologies for the delay in me seeing your message. Can you give me a quick summary of what you tried here? Happy to pick up where that thread left off

Our goal is to deduct the price of a product from a customer's balance.
Example: A customer has a balance of $100 and purchased a product of $20. We want to deduct $20 from the customer's $100 balance, leaving the customer with a balance of $80

We created an invoice and an invoice item, but the customer's balance was not affected

It is also possible to modify the credit balance directly if you want to. https://stripe.com/docs/billing/customer/balance#modifying

Definitely not required though, we can figure out how to do this with Invoicing if that makes more sense for your usecase
