We recognize that the credit is not actual cash. Credit notes can be used to initiate refunds but you would specifically have to specify that when creating these credit notes so it
For the free months option, yes that is a totally valid way to use free trials.
The one other thing I could think to do here would be to give them coupons for 100% off for some time but those might be harder to manage here because I don't think you could stack them (1 month + 1 month = 2 free months) without custom logic on your side.
Yes, that's why we were straying away from coupons. We also wouldn't be able to offer %100 off coupons because we offer yearly and monthly subscriptions
And we wouldn't want users getting a full free year, so that'd have to be custom logic as well.
Thanks @fair bison - for the credit route, for all other intents and purposes, does Stripe view these transactions as if nothing happened? Curious if we'd be charged a cut of the invoice, even though money wasn't actually exchanged, or if there are any tax implications. I'd guess not but want to make sure
As far as I know you will only be charged a Stripe fee on the portion of the invoice that was paid. So if you have a $10 invoice and $6 of credit, you would get charged $0.30 + (.03 * $4.00) rather than a full $0.30 + (.03 * $10.00)
OK thanks very much for your help!
For tax stuff, I would ask our support team https://support.stripe.com/?contact=true
I unfortunately don't know enough to say with confidence that there aren't tax implications though I feel like it would likely be similar to how the fee works.
