unfortunately I don't think there's a workaround to this other than having the promo code field before the PaymentElement
another way I think you can go with is manual capture
so you don't have to update the PaymentIntent but rather if a discount is applied you would only partially capture the PaymentIntent
Could you explain more about this?
I do have the discount code before in the form but if the user goes back then all the credit card info will be cleared.
