i want to send money from my platform balance to a connected express account

Destination charges send the funds to your connected express account automatically if you set transfer_data.amount and transfer_data.destination

narrow jasper
#

should this work?

#

my test-express account doesnt seem to get any new funds

frozen spade
#

That's because you didn't confirm the PaymentIntent

narrow jasper
#

That's what i'm wondering, how do i confirm it?

theres no checkouts or cards here

i simply want to send 100usd from my stripe platform balance to a connected express account

frozen spade
#

Then you shouldn't be using a destination charge - a destination charge shoudl only be used when you want to also accept a payment

#

Instead, you should be creating a transfer

narrow jasper

okey i linked the right one lol

frozen spade

Have you read through that doc? What you linked to is using Tranfers

narrow jasper

thanks for the help

๐Ÿ‘ no problem!

@frozen spade can i ask you another question?

i want to send an express account an amount, but my platform is in EU and express in US.

The info box states "for cross region support, see the cross-border-transfers docs"

In there, you can read "Alternatively, you can facilitate international payouts by using the card_payments capability to make charges directly on Standard connected accounts. Stripe strongly discourages using direct charges for Custom and Express accounts."

I want to avoid having create a business in the U.S, what does the docs mean by "Stripe strongly discourages using direct charges for Custom and Express accounts.".

It's still possible?

I've talked to the normal stripe support about my exact issue for an hour, and the final conclusion was that i should use https://stripe.com/docs/connect/destination-charges

Which i now understand was completely false.

I opened a new chat with support, it took 20 minutes of research, then the response was "can you send a screenshot?" ๐Ÿ‘€

Do you know the reason for "Stripe strongly discourages using direct charges for Custom and Express accounts."?

With Connect, you can create charges on your platform account, take fees, and then transfer remaining funds to your connected accounts.

I'm heading out but @jolly seal can help!

I just read the thread below mine and he had the same issue, the stripe chat or "support" is horrible ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

the discord server is incredibly good

#

you ask stripe support a question and you wait 20 minutes, then they copy paste some random part of the documentation

heya, gimme a while to catch up on what was last discussed

@jolly seal short description of my situation
i'm creating a platform where every purchase could be divided by multiple recipients.
Lets say i sell prints.

  1. the designer should get 20%
  2. the affiliate should get 20%
  3. the platform gets 60%

Now this does not need to be divided at the time of purchase, i'm perfectly fine with storing this information and paying it out "manually" (with a script) once every month.

Problem(?):

  1. I want to be able to send this to any of my connected express account, no matter where they are from. As long as they are labeled as "completed"
  2. i don't want to create a U.S company
#

one reason i want to pay this out in bulk once every month (or week, whatever)
is that a cart could be filled with 5 different prints, with 5 different designers, who should get 20% each, and 1 affiliate (+ platform) so 7 different recipients, from one purchase

#

now all the designers, and the affiliate is and has to be connected as an express account

jolly seal
#

right now, we don't have any way to support the use case that you're looking for unless you create a US company

#

the main problem here is that you want to pay out to multiple different connected accounts, who are potentially in a different region (e.g. your company is in EMEA, but the connected account is in US) - we don't support this right now

narrow jasper
#

so what is meant by this?

jolly seal
#

that is in context to a single connected account. You can create a direct charge or destination charge with OBO

narrow jasper
#

yeah, im currently using OBO and this kinda works perfectly, except i can only sell 1 product at a time,

#

so it seems kinda silly

#

it already works, its just very not optimal

jolly seal
#

We may launch the ability to be able to perform cross border transfers (for non U.S. platforms) in the future. unfortunately, it's a limitation right now.

narrow jasper
#

is it possible for US accounts?

#

platforms*

jolly seal
narrow jasper
#

ah f me

#

guess ill look into paypal or something to use for this, if im gonna send the money once a month anyway in bulk

jolly seal
#

alright, sorry that we can't support your use case right now

narrow jasper
#

if you can, tell someone to hurry up the EU worldwide transfers ๐Ÿ˜‰

#

thanks for the help
