Hi there!
By default Stripe create invoices when you reach the end of the billing cycle. It doesn't create the invoices upfront.
If you need to invoices upfront, then you would need to manually create them yourself.
Okok, and setting the periods to the correct ones in those cases?
Or can we make an invoice to topup the customer balance and then have the subscription payments reach out of that pool of money?

yes you can always credit the Customer's balance https://stripe.com/docs/billing/customer/balance
the balance will be used in the subsequent invoices
