We recently had to migrate all of our customers onto new plans. When we did, it caused an issue in our stripe data we are hoping we can fix. Let's say Sally's subscription renews on the 15th of the month. She cancelled her account on Aug 17th so her plan will actually cancel on Sept 15th (b/c we use the cancel at period end). However, when we migrated all the customers on Aug 18th it also migrated Sally from old_plan to new_plan and since her subscription was set to cancel it updated the cancelled_at field on their subscription to Aug 18th vs the original Aug 17th. Can we somehow manually update the cancelled_at value on those subscriptions that got messed up. We basically have a month of cancellations that got messed up which makes our analytics for churn worthless for that month.

Sally's subscription is still going to cancel, but we would like to have the actual date she cancelled (Aug 15th in this case) be what the cancelled at value is on the subscription. I didn't see cancelled_at in the api docs to be able to update on the subscription.

Hello! I had a webhook fail because a 500 internal server error. I've since patched the bug and clicked "resend" on the webhook in the Stripe Dashboard and had a successful webhook. However, because it failed multiple times there are multiple webhook events scheduled to retry (i thought resending would clear these but it hasn't yet).

hey, looking to see if anyone else has had this same problem. I want to create a ACH charge that will be for multiple invoices. What the business wants is for this to show up on in the customers bank account so it is visible on the account and statement. I think this statement_descriptor is the field to do this, but the documentation says this is max 22 characters. I have tested with larger than this, and it works. Question is, what will be visible on the bank statement ? Will it be truncated to 22 characters ? Has anyone else been asked to have data like this to be visible on the customers bank account statement ? The gist is: an initial checkout session was created for a specific amount. I'd like to mention that this amount includes tax. I'm listening for customer.subscription.updated in order to pass the customer, subscription id, and current_period_end to a client's API but in order to do so also need to have access to the customer's email. It doesn't look like that information is contained in the customer.subscription.updated object I'm receiving. Do I just need to make a separate customer lookup in my webhook or is there a more elegant solution I'm missing?

I currently have the following Stripe integration for new users wanting to purchase a subscription:

On the frontend:

• user submits credit card info and we send to Stripe
• Stripe returns token

On the server:

• client sends token to server
• we create a source from the token
• we set source as the default source on the subscription when creating it
• we set source on the customer
• user correctly gets a subscription

I am interested in allowing users to upgrade/downgrade their subscription BUT I would also like to give them an option to use new payment method and not default one. What's the recommended approach here? I've been reading up on PaymentIntents but an amount is required when creating a PaymentIntent object and the amount is dependent on the subscription being prorated.

I have read the Stripe documentation on SCA but just trying to ensure that I haven't missed anything for our business scenario which are off-session payments. We work with OTAs like Booking.com where the customer (card holder) would book and provide their card details. Booking.com then would send us virtual credit card details which we would send to Stripe to tokenise/store and then use this to charge the customer. One of our customers for whom we created a connected account, wants to create a connect account for his customer when a particular event happens in our application

So, the problem here is, how can we create a connect account for our customers connect platform for their customers ?

I contacted stripe support regarding this and they said that it is not possible for my connect platform to create a connected account for another connect platform.

So trying to come up with a work around as our customer really needs this feature, we thought we usually construct an oauth link to redirect our customers to stripe platform to create a standard connected account. In this link we pass details such as our client ID and redirect url

But instead of our client ID and redirect url, we will construct the oauth link using our customers details and email this link to our customer's customer who can now create a connect account in our customer's connect platform

Is this solution possible ?

Please explain how can I achieve what:
My platform account is in France and we have EUR currency bank account. For example i have three connected accounts. Account A is in GB with GBP currency debit card, account B is in France with USD currency debit card, and account C is in Spain with EUR currency debit card.

So when some client make online payment in USD currency - i want achieve this flow:
client USD -> save money in USD ->
-> convert 15% client USD to GBP for A connected account and send
-> convert 35% client USD to EUR for C connected account and send
-> do NOT convert 20% client USD and send for B connected account.
-> do NOT convert 30% client USD and save it for our platform.

How could i achieve this flow with stripe, and can i?

I confuse with this:
"Separate charges are converted to the platform’s default currency from the presentment currency and the platform later transfers the funds to the connected account."
So, there will be currency conversions for B two times. But there is no need to do currency conversion for B at all. And for example for A there is also two currency conversions (USD -> platform default currency(EUR) -> GBP) instead of (USD -> GBP)

Also could i create test bank account for platform? When i tried - i got exception that now create test bank account it is not possible.

Hi team, Im working on initial payment with subscription, and am stuck on deciding wether to integrate SCA compatibility. The issue I have with it is that if a payment fails and i have to guide the user through the 3D secure modal flow using confirmCardPayment, provisioning an active subscription will require webhooks and live listeners on our app. While we have this compatibility, its time intensive, complex, and would be way more efficient if we could immediately call our backend on success of the modal so we could return appropriate flags for provisioning our app to the user. So my question is: Is it normal for integrations to leave out 3D secure? and do you recommend against leaving it out? My alernative would be returning errors on failed payments while creating subscriptions so users have to use cards that are valid and dont require further authentication

You can also look at using setup intents to setup a payment method. https://stripe.com/docs/js/setup_intents/confirm_card_setup . From there you can send the payment method to your server to capture server side. Definitely don't recommend skipping 3DS/sca 🙂

Hello, I have a question about Stripe apis. I created a payout from a connected account using the stripe dashboard and I have the po_ id of the payout. Is there anyway for me to map this payout id to the id of the connected account? I know to even retrieve the payout object, the account id is required, but just wondering if this is possible. @fiery oriole Yeah, in this case there were unique factors that caused issues (mainly the combination of your email address refusing to accept messages for a while and the fact that you forgot your password). We'll see what we can do about improving things when combinations of factors like these happen.

Hey everyone, have a customer that we created a subscription for and they used an ach source (US Based), using plaid integration to generate stripe bank token. The initial payment failed (account not found), and their subscription was automatically cancelled after multiple attempted payments.

They've added another bank account (same institution, different account).

Now, we have used the stripe API to "clone" their original subscription with identical start_date, future billing_anchor_date, and re-creating the price_data. However, we used the original bank account and received the bank_account_unusable. Leaving us with an "incomplete" subscription.

Is it possible to attach the new bank account to this latest subscription/invoice from the dashboard? Or would we want to do this via api as well?

With custom connect you can do Destination Charges on behalf of your connected merchant. Your platform account is where the Stripe fees will come out of. You can choose to use application_fee_amount to cover fees. So it depends on you if the merchant gets 100% of the payment or not.

• i am using checkout
• i have subscriptions that start at some time in the future (eg 1st of next month)
• starting a subscription also usually involves a one time payment for another item

so far things work fine - i use trial periods to delay the first monthly payment and that's OK. (i understand that if i were to use elements i could control the payment cycle but right now it seems that would be more work than i have time for)

what i now want to implement is gradual/tiered pricing: eg first subscription costs 10$, next 8$, all above 6$.

i still have to charge the user the one time payment for each additional subscription.

is there a way that i can "update the existing subscription" in the sense that i +1 the quantity of it and also get the correct next monthly price displayed on the checkout screen?

or would i have to make the one time payment and then separately update the existing subscription afterwards eg in the webhook (in which case i have to show in "my" UI that this will change their subscription from 10$ to 18$)?

or alternatively have a tier 1, tier 2, tier 3+ price separately and make separate subscriptions - which of course would result in multiple payments per month which seems suboptimal?

Now we want to allow a free trial of the product without credit card, then allow the user to enter a credit card after their trial expires via payment form in the app (not by email).
I know we can start the subscription in stripe without a payment method, but the part about adding a credit card to the existing subscription (after the trial) is what we can't figure out.

But I can't read the recipient email, because the account is deleted from my DB. Quick question about PaymentMethods: We're currently using Sources, and I was thinking of trying to replace them with PaymentMethods (but not yet PaymentIntents). From what I read in the documentation, only 1 capture event can be done per authorized payment for the customer. https://stripe.com/docs/payments/capture-later. I am building a marketplace where customers can order from two or more different vendors within one order. The problem I am facing is that it is possible for each vendor to need to capture later their amount for purchase due to the nature of the goods being sold. What I am currently planning to build is a system where the total amount for all vendors after their adjusted amounts is captured later. Then, I will need to internally calculate how much to transfer to each connected Stripe vendor account post capture. Is there a better approach?

This approach hinges on the fact that I will need to be able to capture a greater amount than what I authorized. I assume that is possible, but I haven't seen that explicitly stated in the documentation.

The cost of the item is determined individually for each client and multiplied by the number of items that the client already has.

For example 3.4 $ per position, the client enters 100 positions into the system, 340 $ is billed for payment.

Hi everyone. I'm listening for customer.subscription.updated to retrieve an updated current_period_end value to send to my client's API. However, whenever the customer.subscription.updated webhook fires, it fires (4) events which triggers my function 4 times. The customer would then receive 4 emails each time their subscription updates, which isn't ideal. Is there a way to avoid this? Hi, relative newbie at Stripe. I've got a platform that has all its members setup as connected accounts (Express). I've got the platform subscription fees charging fine on a monthly basis by simply using debit charges. I am trying to create an app using Stripe Connect white-label (Platform)

And I want to allow a business to sign up for my platform, and create locations for that business. For example the business is a chain of dental clinics. Each clinic has it's own bank account that they want to get paid out to. The app is charging customers for their appointments.

What is the best way to create the locations and save the respective bank account details to each location? Should I create a connect account for each location? But then I have to put each location through KYC which feels awkward. Any ideas? 🙂

I will try to explain and provide some general overview ...

In our Charges we store some useful meta data - within the description field.
But we need to pair this data with actual Payouts and consolidate this data when creating an Invoice in Xero /external API calls/.

In short, we want to know which Charges are included in a Payout.
If I go to the following Payout screen - in the Stripe Dashboard:

I can see the list of Transactions at the bottom - which are the actual Charges.
So, this means that the Payouts and Charges are linked in some way.

But when I try to do /in Python via the stripe package/:

I successfully receive response for both objects.

I'm having an issue where Stripe Connect is working just fine on my local (mac) development server but the identical web app with stripe connect doesn't work on the production server which is on Amazon EC2. Specifically, it's just the card element iframe that's not coming through (loading) on the production server (it works fine on the local server). Stripe.js API calls work just fine on both. The public test key is used and it returns the token. The iframe code is identical on both. But the local loads the iframe and the production doesn't. There are no CORS blocking going on. I"ve met for hours with Amazon Web Service engineers. There are no errors in the EC2 logs and no issues that can be found. It must be a Stripe issue but I have no idea what it could be. Public Test Keys are not tied to a specific URL so it's curious why it would work on one but not the other. If anything, the production server is more secure - it's SSL. The local dev server is not. Any help would be appreciated!

How can I get access to the external_accounts api in the Partner Integration that I am building? It uses Standard Connected Accounts but when I try to use the api it gives me the response "You cannot perform this request as you do not have Platform Controls for Standard on the account". Hello everyone, quick question : When creating an invoice (draft) you can add a coupon. This draft already count as a coupon redemption (that is ok). But when deleting the draft, the coupon keep the redemption (even when actually it was not use because the draft was never finalized).

This making some noise because we use the redemption limit a lot and now we are finding out that some of them were not really used.

PS: Same thing with voided invoices.

There is something I'm not grasping here ? Can I do something with the API (like delete the redemption or increase the limit) ?

The reason why the system misjudges that it cannot be used is that the refund rate is too high. I think it is because there are many orders in the peak season, and there are more refunds. However, in the off-season, there are fewer orders, and the refund orders in the peak season are calculated into the off-season. The refund rate increases in the off-season, and the misjudged account number is unqualified.

I checked out subscriptions schedule where we can define an interval and the total amount will be divided according to that interval and every month a fixed amount will be charged from the customer. According to my use case, I want this amount to be variable. 1. I am building workflow where customers start subscription with collection_method of "send_invoice" and payment method of Sofort (which will be transformed/saved as SEPA DD payment method after payment succeeds)
2. After the SEPA DD payment method has been generated from Sofort pm, I would like to update the generated SEPA DD as "default_payment_method" of the subscription and change collection method from "send_invoice" to "charge_automatically"

However, when I am doing the step number 2, I receive error of: "Could not perform this change
The payment method type sofort cannot be used with subscriptions that have the collection_method set to charge_automatically."

Is this a limitation of SEPA DD pm since it was generated off from Sofort pm in the first place or is there are workaround for the issue?

When a customer joins, I create a trial which is created from an SGD price (0 SGD) which cancels in 30 days. Within 30 days, the customer can choose to pay and buy a subscription. This new subscription will be on the price of customers currency (e.g.: USD).

Hello, a question about auto payout. I am trying to extract the payment intents relevant to a given payout using curl https://api.stripe.com/v1/payouts/. The suggestion I was given a few days ago in this forum is to expand balance_transaction.source which would apparently be a charge that contains payment intent id. Hi everyone, I have a very specific question around trying to work around a limitation with using Stripe Connect and Subscriptions at the same time.

My understanding is that if a credit is performed during a subscription upgrade request then it goes to the customer and not the subscription, which would mean that stripe might apply that credit to the wrong subscription if the user has multiple subscriptions. In our case it's a marketplace with multiple merchants and customers might have subscriptions to multiple different merchants so the default stripe behaviour would result in big issues for us.

In order to get around this we have been exploring the following approach:

1. Use proration preview to determine if the update subscription would result in a credit
2. If it is a credit then do the upgrade with proration_behavior=none
3. Add an invoice item for the credit and associate it with the subscription's next invoice once it has been created in draft in order to give the customer the credit that they are owed

Now my questions are:

1. Will this work?
2. What happens if the credit exceeds the invoice total? For example imagine a user went from a $30 subscription to a $10 one, and then we credit their next invoice with $20. They get their next $10 invoice for free. What happens to the remaining $10 from the $20 invoice item credit that we added?
3. Are there any other ideas you have to avoid this limitation?

I am not sure how to best handle the following situation, so I would like to get some advice:
For the first month we want to charge a high initial price, and then after the first month use a lower monthly renewal price. For example the first month we want to do $50 and then after the first month keep charging $15 per month..
I know I can do a one-time line item, but we prefer to have it a single line item.
I was thinking maybe after the first invoice was paid, I can update the price of the subscription to the lower price.. but the downside is that it will show the customer an initial monthly $50 price on the stripe checkout page.
Are there any other options I could leverage?

When it returned authentication_required, on the client side I did .confirmCardPayment(client_secret) and I got the error 'payment_intent_incompatible_payment_method'

I registered that card again on the user, and now I get 'requires_action' status, and when I do .confirmCardPayment(client_secret) it works and shows the 3D secure page and I can confirm the payment.

Hi I am creating stripe subscriptions using PHP. I need to add a recurring price and a one time price. When I only add the recurring price, the subscription is created successfully. But When I add both recurring and one time prices, it gives me the following error:

But when i create a subscription using this card, the subscription ends up as "canceled" because the payment failed, the user must confirm his 3d Secure...

basically, we use the negative value invoice line items to show a deduction on the client's billable total. We have not found a way to effectively post this via api to generate the correct invoice.

It's an issue with rejected custom connect account. I am sure it is rejected in error I provided them the info 7 hours ago and since then there no response. Contacting support is not helpful. All they are saying is it has been sent to some other team.

You can still generate “Identity Verifications” and “Products” to sell.

For example, I’m a Producer but I’m also a Musician. I can allow Memberships or Subscriptions and Verify if my fans are legit or not.

How long does it take for the webhook to hit your endpoint after a transaction in production?

well, according to my experience, its quite fast, like 5 seconds i guess

Hmm. After payment my user is redirected to a success page with a get variable being the payment intent. The order is only recorded in my database when the webhook hits my endpoint and if my server redirects too fast before the webhook hit my endpoint the user comes to an error as the order isn't in my database yet.

Any thoughts on the best way to build this? Maybe a subsequent call once redirected with a loading spinner until the object is created?

I use the payment intent to pull the order itself as the identifier

I guess redirecting to a middle page that checks if the order is recorded or not every 2 seconds then redirecting to success page would work

Hi everyone, noob question here. I'm attempting to integrate the prebuilt checkout page with my spring boot server. It's already functioning with other apis using the (what I think is) standard controller, svc, model way of doing things. Does anyone have any advice on how to organize this? Would it be best to create a Parameters model, set all of those parameters in the service class, and return all of those to the controller where it's posted? Any help is appreciated, thanks

Currently I'm using express connected accounts for my users who offers their services and also creating customers for my other users that will consume those services, I wanted to know if I can handle the payment flow with PaymentIntents so the consumer users payout to service provider users, or I have to use Payouts for this thanks.

Ok, I need some direction. I have 70 connected accounts to my hub that all use stripe on our platform, but when a customer registers to buy, they must register a valid card to buy. Still, if they buy from one of the connected accounts, they need to re-register the card to buy from them since they are technically a different vendor. Is there a way through the developer option to have the first registered card available to all connected accounts? At the moment, i have implemented a payment page that is working perfectly. So payment can be done.
But i don't find a clean way to get the created subscription and attach it to the right entity.

I'm trying to retrieve an upcoming invoice with some changes to preview the effects of a billing interval change.

I'm using a trial period with proration set to none, so that the customer is billed according to the new interval when the current period ends.

When I retrieve the invoice with the changes mentioned above, eg:

Is the only way to get the data I'm looking for by traversing the lines data, calculating the sums and using the period.end in the "Trial period for..." line item as the time for the next invoice with an actual amount to be charged?

👋 if a user cancels there subscription, would I use this event customer.subscription.deleted to recieve the webhook when there subscription is over? Because I have it so when user cancels subscription it finishes the month out, and I don't want to have to run a cron job myself.
