this topic had moved to rng & that's the biggest tool in that
it has not moved, it was always about how menhir changes change speedsettling and how RNG is more prominent in first few hours of server.
which temp kings also affect

Ok, i wil try to explain why res from adventures and hideouts has much higher impact than temp menhir king RNG on 1x server:
Lets have player A and player B, Both of them found a juicy 150% 15c on the edge of map that they want. Both did their best, but due to their adventures (player A found res, player B did not) and hideouts distance difference, player A managed to have settlers ready 1 h before player B.
Player A is part of premade, so they spawned 2 menhir kings (to increase odds and reduce RNG) so they could help all their players get the best croppers.
1h goes by and 2 menhir kings are spawned also for player B to help him get to that 15c.
Now, question is, in 1h did enough players join the server so that the newly spawned menhir kings for player B are actually closer to that 15c than menhir kings of player A?
And the simple answer for that is: No.
Becuase this is 1x server, settling took around 12h for player A, and 13h for player B. When player A was sending settlers it was 2 am server time which is 2 am Europe time. And we all know that these times are not so active. So there wasn't enough players join between 2 am and 3 am server time, so that the 2 menhir kings spawned for player B were actually closer to that 15c by at least 4 fields.
I believe there is still possibility, that if menhir kings for player A were extremely unlucky, and menhir kings for player B were extra lucky, maybe player B could take that 15c. But in my opinion thats very unlikely. Because if you are organizing a premade and you see that your menhir kings are really poorly placed, you will send another player to spawn as a menhir king. You have enough duals for that.
TLDR: You can reduce RNG of menhir kings on 1x server greatly by spawning more of them. And at the 1x server at 2 am time, not enough new players are joing so the 1h difference would put another menhir kings closer because of space taken by new players
1h is to much 30min is around that time imo unless your all 4 hideouts spawned >2fields away.

havent tested speed settle on x3 and x5 but asfasik hideouts onx3 and x5 is latter then x1 a little. so it might f allittle there, but theres some points on not needing warehouse and granary levels at start

There was always RNG anyway, even when there were res piles, those who hideout at 1 unit had an advantage over those who hideout at 3 units

Yea, advantages were there. But you could consistently ( without RNG ) reach same time
for sending settlers.
with our speedsettling we didnt even clear hideouts, so we had no rng
we just took the stolen goods
Anyway just because a few players test it, its not conclusive. As @rain fiber said, if you could run AI or like 100 bots to test it, we could see the impact
I really think thats not too much to ask
I think speedsettling has been around for a long time, switching back to something basic should be still fair

Hi @compact sluice , it‘s late here but a quick feedback from the Halloween world: menhir only on a 4-4-4-6 is perfectly fine and creates more fairness. BUT, on servers with so many starting players it is almost impossible to build up a KR if you don't move to the very edge. If you're unlucky, you only have influence on 5 fields, none of which are suitable for settling, and you can't bring in any new players. Wouldn't it be better if fields with Menhir simply became 4-4-4-6?
