I understand, but mojangs API limits us to spam send requests to change skins to custom ones, this is why servers like hypixel don't allow this. We have tried working around it, but it's simply not really possible

Yes, but imagine how many people are going to join an inappropriate name vs how the nickname system will be abused.
If we can prevent inappropriate nicknames, why not prevent it? We cannot put a stop to players joining with inappropriate usernames, but we can with nicknames, so the two are completely different from eachother and doesn't validate your point. We will not be allowing custom nicknames to hacker rank at the moment. Even currently with it being available to YT, Helper, Mod, Admin, Owner it has been abused in the past, so adding it to a global rank would not be such a great take on our end.
Don't worry though! In the near future we will be adding things to differentiate the ranks, and we understand you and others frustrations on this
