So had an interaction and wanted to make sure we played it right. My caster charged their caster and wanted to cast mortality before making the charge attack. Does the caster get the model in combat bonus to their defense?

It appears they do, but could not find the clear rule if they do or do not.

Thank you

It’s right here

Also note that, unlike ranged attacks (i.e. those made with a ranged weapon) there is no model advantage or weapon quality that allows a model to ignore the target-in-melee bonus for arcane attacks.

If you are in range for the spell at the start of the warcasters activation you can cast mortality before the charge movement though.

Thank you all, we played it right, but we had definitely been playing it wrong in the past. We always assumed warcasters had a rule that allowed it. Is this new to mark 4?

In previous editions a warcaster could cast spells at a model they were engaged with without a penalty

Also that.
