#Adaptive triggers not working and vibration is weird

Whenever I have DualSenseX open, playing a game doesn't initiate the adaptive triggers most of the time and the vibration makes some weird noises compared to the gentle and smooth motion without DualSenseX.

balmy copper
#

DualsenseX v1 is abandonware, thus isn't supported. You should get the Steam version of DSX

sharp girder
#

also people call yall greedy so like..

balmy copper
#

That question isn't mine to answer, really... Only you can decide what you want/need

balmy copper
sharp girder
#

idk man, putting a controller emulator behind a paywall is nonsense

#

but alr whatever

balmy copper
#

That's your opinion, you're absolutely entitled to it, I (and we) won't take issues with it 🙂
Do know though that developing software implies time, efforts and providing support as well.
Some projects are operated through community driven efforts and without any economical model, some accept donations and hope getting them for being able to invest personal time into development. Some other projects like DSX are paid software for the mentioned reasons and that is how the owner of the app and the developer of the virtual Dualsense DLC chose to conduct their business

sharp girder
#

its just a controller emulator... thats the stupid part about it and why theres hate

lean ivy
balmy copper
#

It's a software product, like any other paid software, whatever the scope of said paid softwares might be

lean ivy
#

Honestly no point talking to people like this.

#

Everyone has to work hard for free lol

balmy copper
#

I mean, exchanging opinions and facts can't harm anything nor anyone

lean ivy
balmy copper
#

I assume B can hear those points, even if the goal isn't to convince, and understand them. As for accepting them, that's another story but not saying anything isn't healthy imo : I mean facts must be set straight even in civilized discourse

lean ivy
#

Reading old reviews doesn't help

balmy copper
lean ivy
#

I wonder if there would be so much resistance if the price of DSX was more but included the virtual Dualsense

balmy copper
#

I guess only a proper market study could determine that

sharp girder
#

if it was like 2 bucks then i wouldnt be complaining rn

#

many people wouldnt be complaining

lean ivy
#

Nobody cares . The price should be much higher. Do you actually work yet lol

#

Do you have the slightest understanding how many hours is put in by several Devs over several years

balmy copper
lean ivy
#

Steam take 30%

balmy copper
lean ivy
#

Then there is tax

#

But being 12 nobody has taught you this

#

Fucking freeloaders. Anyway I'm going.

balmy copper
#

Not to criticize it nor its dev but Lossless Scaling is an app that costs about the same iirc and arguably doesn't provide a tenth of the amount of features DSX provides. It's obviously not the same scope at all but I doubt there are that many users that think it should be free anyway.

All this might just be about how the product is perceived to be and what it is understood to be by the audience and potential clientele

sharp girder
#

I mean how did DS4Windows stay free

balmy copper
#

These upscalers are a one time implementation really, the FG part is the costy & troublesome part though, true.

sharp girder
balmy copper
#

DS4Windows is an open source project to begin with and is abandonware as well (its main branch is at least, only forks went forward)
It is able to continue because some people decide to invest their own time and efforts for free but it's no long term guarantee and stuff can (and will) break over time after system updates, API changes and all that jazz

#

DS4Windows also relies heavily on free dependency softwares such as HidHide & ViGemBus (both being developed by Nefarius, who developed the Dualsense emulation DSX uses with its DLC btw)

sharp girder
#

what's really stupid to me is how theres 2 paywalls

#

and not a free update like any piece of software

#

that's what's got me really active

#

what could there possibly be that is so different from V2

balmy copper
#

It's not 2 paywalls though, it's a main product (DSX) and then an extra functionality one (vDS DLC)

sharp girder
#

extra functionality, which means...?

balmy copper
#

Main one is owned and developed by Paliverse, DLC is developed and maintained by Nefarius

#

It means that you can emulate a Dualsense and benefit from features you couldn't get any other way

sharp girder
#

like?

balmy copper
#

Like having wireless dualsense support in games that don't offer wireless support natively

#

Or having Edge working in games not having support for it, only for regular Dualsense

sharp girder
#

there should atleast be a free trial for this

#

because there is no way that I could purchase this without seeing some extensive imagery or getting a short experience

balmy copper
#

And very soon (it's been more than a year and a half in the making mind you) full Dualsense emulation (audio channels included) which will open the door to even more features

#

You can always purchase it and refund within a 2 hours window though

sharp girder
#

way less convenient imo

balmy copper
#

But I get the trial point, I think it would be good to have as well but it's not my call to make whether that will be a thing or not

sharp girder
#

there should atleast be a free version with limited functionality

#

instead of having an abandoned one on github just rotting away

#

but alright

lean ivy
#

#📌┃roadmap message

balmy copper
sharp girder
#

can you like

#

make your gyro a steering wheel atleast

balmy copper
#

Free trial as in actual free trial really isn't my call anyway so maybe that will be a thing eventually, really can't tell you it will though, I personally doubt it but you never know.
At the end of the day, it's all about personal decisions, the devs' as much as the users'

balmy copper
# sharp girder make your gyro a steering wheel atleast

Yep, in v3.1, with accelerometer mode only for the Motion-to-Stick feature, you can totally do that. I don't recall whether that update has already been pushed or if it's still in the test builds only but if so, it's coming imminently

sharp girder
#

ugh I wish someone can gift me the app

#

since I really need that

#

well anyways

#

thanks for the peaceful argument atleast

balmy copper
#

🤞 some friend of yours will, but if you do need it, then I'd save a little for getting it (maybe waiting for next Steam sales even) if I were in your shoes, I doubt you'd regret it really.

#

Plus for that gyro feature, you don't need the DLC so there's that ig 😉

sharp girder
#

do i really have to wait like 3 months for a sale man.

balmy copper
#

Well I'm not in charge of pricings nor anything business related really so can't tell you for sure but it's a safe bet, yeah
That said, nothing prevent Pali from putting it on sale or organizing another giveaway so keep aware 😉
You're welcome and glad we could have a peaceful conversation

sharp girder
#

@balmy copper so um..

#

how do i properly use dualsense emulation mode

balmy copper
#

Gonna have to give me more than that for me to be able to help you here 😉

sharp girder
#

well

#

when should i use native

#

and when dualsense emulation

balmy copper
#

Again, it depends (tm)

sharp girder
#

can u explain xd

sharp girder
balmy copper
#

I'm gonna go eat something first but in the meantime, please let me know what games you plan on using it in if you have any remote idea about it

sharp girder
#

im a tech nerd and all these settings confuse me

#

smh

balmy copper
sharp girder
#

uhh

#

whats rumble fallback again

balmy copper
#

Rumble over Bluetooth

#

When the game has Haptics over USB

sharp girder
#

it has haptics over usb

#

let me test over bluetooth rq

balmy copper
#

See you in a quarter

sharp girder
#

what now

balmy copper
#

So, for now, as things stand with what the vDS offers, you'll want to play the game wired and in dsx native mode (or without dsx) in order to get haptics

sharp girder
#

barely any of my buttons work when im in dualsense mode

#

is it cuz im wired?

balmy copper
#

No, but it sounds like you have Steam Input enabled as well though

#

Cause the game should definitely pick your vDS inputs and react normally. But Steam Input enabled can and most often does mess with DSX

sharp girder
#

its disabled tho

balmy copper
#

Hmm

#

Have you switched from native to Dualsense emulation whilst in-game ?

sharp girder
#

yeah

#

also

#

DSX doesnt detect my controller

#

over bluetooth

balmy copper
#

Games don't like that usually

balmy copper
sharp girder
#

paired it again

#

now it works

#

weird

balmy copper
#

Good though dsxBlobSweat

sharp girder
#

only my dpad works when im in dualsense mode

#

:/

balmy copper
#

Good way to check whether things are working properly DSX side is for you to go into the Controller Mappings tab when editing a profile

#

There you'll have "Physical" and "Virtual" buttons, respectively highlighting your real button presses and the emulated (or passed through) presses

sharp girder
#

okay

#

all my buttons come through

balmy copper
#

Both in physical and virtual views ?

sharp girder
#

yeah

balmy copper
#

So problem ain't dsx side

sharp girder
#

i restarted the game

#

dualsense emulation still doesnt work

balmy copper
#

Hmm, so might be a game falling in the bad scenario category mentioned above

sharp girder
#

im guessing

#

bad game

balmy copper
#

Well, not if it works natively over Bluetooth (even without Rumble Fallback)

sharp girder
#

it works over bluetooth

#

no rumble

balmy copper
#

Ik, I mean it's not a bad game because of that

#

It's an oversight from the devs to not have designed their checks for the controller as well as other ports of theirs

#

That's a Nixxes port isn't it ?

sharp girder
#

yeah

#

wait one sec let me try smt

balmy copper
#

They know better than doing it this way, yet they did

#

Most likely expecting a wired DS to have its audio channels exposed and usable but skipping the controller altogether if it doesn't

sharp girder
#

um

#

buttons sometimes work

#

but only if i spam

#

well

#

im gonna put it on native mode ig

#

@balmy copper do you mind if we take this to dms because im REALLY filling up the server

#

also

#

everytime i press a button

#

the achievement thing pops up

#

its insanely annoying.

balmy copper
sharp girder
#

alright

balmy copper
#

The achievement thing though, I get it (I personally hate achievements lol) and this should be taken as feedback to Pali for eventually adjusting how it behaves

balmy copper
#

Tricky part about it is that many users expect to get those popups by default

#

When many others expect not to

sharp girder
#

i wish native mode had an option

#

where it let the game change the adaptive triggers

#

since dualsense emualtion doesnt work xd

balmy copper
#

You can crop the screenshot so only the inside part shows if you don't want anything sensitive or to be kept private not to show, it's totally fine

balmy copper
sharp girder
balmy copper
#

BUT, that's the big one as explained earlier today, games will conflict with that option enabled because both the game and DSX will try to do their thing

balmy copper
sharp girder
#

well anyways

#

im guessing dualsense emulation is for edge controllers/wireless

balmy copper
# sharp girder

Thanks, I was suspecting you would have any button mapping enabled that would mess with your virtual inputs

sharp girder
#

can we make this quick i dont wanna lose my 2 hour period for refunding xD

balmy copper
#

Well your call anyway, don't wait on me for deciding what you want

balmy copper
sharp girder
#

i was jk

balmy copper
#

Oh, mb, hard to grasp your personality in so few exchanges 😉

sharp girder
#

xdd

balmy copper
#

Anyway, we can keep on chatting on various stuff you'd like to know but I can't multitask all questions at once

sharp girder
#

i will try figure out stuff

#

that dualsense emulation thing got me confused confused tho

#

anyways tysm for ur help

balmy copper
balmy copper
sharp girder
#

just

#

the app is insanely finnicky

#

personally i find the github version more user friendly

balmy copper
#

I get it, but it's way more feature packed as well... so one thing explains the other

#

btw, which version are you on now ?

#

3.0.5 or 3.1 beta ?

sharp girder
#

3.1 beta

balmy copper
#

Nice 🙂 better start with it

#

Regarding Spidey 2 though

#

Pali has personally tested the upcoming vDS w/ audio on this game and it works wonders

#

So you'd get Haptics-to-Rumble over Bluetooth with it eventually

sharp girder
balmy copper
#

Sure, shoot

sharp girder
#

is there a way to make profiles apply depending on the exe?

balmy copper
#

Yes

sharp girder
balmy copper
sharp girder
#

ah just figured it out

#

thanks

balmy copper
#

But I'm glad you got wireless working (with Rumble I take it ?)

sharp girder
#

mhm

sharp girder
#

@balmy copper just oneeee more question (sorry)

#

is it possible to have different connectivity profiles for every app?

balmy copper
#

Err, I wish

#

For now, that's only global and per device

sharp girder
#

aw man

#

bro im giving paliverse so many ideas 😭😭

balmy copper
#

This could be very powerful to have but for it to work optimally (meaning seamlessly whilst changing connection mode in-game), DSX would need to have the controller operate differently than what it does currently (BT radio is turned off when plugged in USB so connection changes require the controller to be turned on again when unplugging it cause it will natively turn off on BT disconnect so without USB, no BT connection, it turns off)

sharp girder
#

it would be really nice to be individual

#

since you don't need to change profiles manually

balmy copper
sharp girder
#

lmaoo

#

anyways

#

thanks so so much for all of this

#

I owe you one

balmy copper
sharp girder
#

also I kinda now see why it's a paid app, imo it's like 3 more bucks overpriced, but dang it packs features, basic version/trial would be INSANELY nice.. ehm paliverse

balmy copper
#

You're welcome, it's challenging users that make us think things through differently so don't hesitate to share more ideas in general should you get any others 🙂
Constructive criticism is also very welcome, as long as it's courteous so there again 😉

sharp girder
balmy copper
sharp girder
#

ehhh

#

I like to be proven wrong

balmy copper
#

So do I 🙂

sharp girder
#

I wasn't really mad at the time, just slightly disappointed

#

that's all

balmy copper
#

Hopefully not regarding to my job's though, that'd be as akward as humiliating 😉 haha

#

Eh, don't worry about it, nobody's holding a grudge I think

sharp girder
#

besides that one guy that got really mad at me

balmy copper
#

Nah, I'm sure he's chill about it 😉 just hot blooded and he's been through hundreds if not thousands of tickets since he's been with us so he's a quick draw

#

Personally, forever in debt to him for so many reasons, really

sharp girder
balmy copper
#

Do you want the easy quick user facing only answer or the technical one ?

sharp girder
#

both

balmy copper
#

Alright, here we go then

#

Simple answer is Haptics is audio and wired only, treated as such in and for DSX, Rumble is data and wired or wireless, and will always be for anything

#

Technical is that the Dualsense doesn't actually have native Rumble per say (trollface but not trollface actually.. let me explain)

#

That controller doesn't have traditional motors in it (well it does, but they are for Adaptive Triggers)

#

The Haptic Feedback (and Rumble Fallback) both work using the same components in the controllers, namely the Voice Coil Actuators

#

Consider them as mini but powerful speakers

#

They will playback audiowaves in order to produce the fancy actual Haptic Feedback

#

Those audiowaves can only be provided via USB on PC so forget about how the PS5 does it, it's irrelevant here

#

What is relevant though, is that when the DS is operating wirelessly, it has an internal flag toggled to have its VCAs operate in "Emulated Rumble" mode

#

In that emulated rumble mode, these mini speakers will be operating in a shorter amplitude than Haptics would use, meaning they can't vibrate their membranes as low nor as high frequencies as they can when getting haptics, and also won't have the same overall gain available for them to max their strength as much as haptics could

#

The creative "magic" Sony did with that is they managed to emulate Rumble quite convincingly by having their controller firmware translate traditional rumble data packets into frequencies and gain levels to have the VCAs "play" at to produce similar feeling rumble, even if it's technically different from traditional actual rumble motors vibrating by rotating their weighted shaft at various speeds

#

So, in a way, even though Haptics are fancy and objectively way better than regulard "boring" old Rumble for immersion, precision, nuance & all, the most impressive feat of the DS might be its Rumble capabilities considering it doesn't have real motors for it 😉

balmy copper
#

Agreed, but only for not releasing a dongle

#

With which we could all have on-par with PS5 features wirelessly
