I really like the changes done in 0.6, but the start does feel a little bit slow. I think that values should be adjusted a bit to make getting through early magic a bit faster. The start is what most people are going to experience and because of that, the slow pace at the beginning could give negative impression to people that don't know what's beyond that point.
#Speed Up the Start of the Game

I agree that the start is somewhat sluggish but it has some merit to it. The slower pace lets you familiarize yourself with the new systems constantly being introduced
I tend to agree, but I think some minor tweaks could be done to keep it like that while also making the pacing feel a bit better early. Compared to the previous version, I felt like I was sitting for quite awhile not doing a whole bunch xD
I didn't mind it because I KNEW what was past it, but I could definitely see some people picking up the game and thinking there isn't much to it.
I think it's probably a good pace for a new player, but kinda slow for returning players. I don't have any good suggestions for how to make that better for everyone without it being a tradeoff
Yeah I can see that. Early game does feel a bit grindy because there isn't much you can do yet. Though I'm not sure how would you speed it up without overwhelming the player
I think to me, it would feel much better to have something to do in between Spell Cooldowns instead of just waiting for the cooldowns.
Well, druidry unlocks pretty early. So maybe lowering the requirements for that could help
Came here to say this. As a new player I felt the pace was almost perfect. Not overwhelming, but not that tedious slog you get in a lot of incremental games.
Most games workaround this by adding some kind of prestige system for returning players, but I really don’t know if that could work in orb of creation. Might still be worth considering if others agree the beginning feels slow!
I think just having a save that skips the early game would work just fine. I was in the middle of making one when I got distracted by something else
So just export / import a save when you start a new playthrough
the way to improve that is knowledge based boosts. Make it so its slightly complex enough that once your used to the systems you can progress quicker. That way it serves as a hold back for those who are new and a quick forwarding for returnees
Was just thinking about this because I was thinking about the bug that causes things to be shared between saves, but maybe it could be as simple as starting you off with higher innate spell levels if it detects a save in a different slot that has progressed beyond a certain point.
Think of it as a "practiced wizard vs. newbie wizard" bonus 👀
Cause I feel the bigger issue early on is just that its a CD waiting game xD
Not having played the v.6, but I think I'd enjoy a more slowly paced game, even as a returning player. A good example of a slow pace incremental is kittensgame. 🙂
I think the opening is plenty fast. You dont want to overwhelm new players.
idk if i'm playing suboptimally but it's taking a solid ~30m on 0.6 to get close to unlocking novice spells
i know the game's worth it, but if it was my first intro to the game i'd be gone
The start is very slow. It's very annoying to get your Gather knowledge spell to mastery level 2 ...
same @arctic dove
The start ain't bad. The grindy part is on your way to unlock alchemy
no, this is really weirdly paced. not having access to any new mechanics / meta upgrades and having to push the same buttons for 20m+ is a L
A bit exaggerated here but I get you
naw, 20 min seems about right. its not fun
I timed it and it took me a whooping 460s to get gather knowledge level 2
So yes, they do exaggerate the issue
are you one the beta branch? it takes around 300 casts of gather to get from level 1 to 2. even doing that on cool down with all three spell slots that takes at least 15 min.
