#Raven Guard 2k List - New to HH

So since I'm dropping down to one Dark Fury but it's getting a Chaplain, should the Praetor be in there too? Or should he get rebuilt to be part of the Deliverers squad?
I would say split your HQs into two different units
It's a bit of a weird interaction, and the fluff implications are off, but I believe you can put a JP praetor in with the Deliverers as they all have DS (the fact that one's teleportation and one's rocket propelled doesn't seem to matter)
Someone else correct me if I'm wrong there! Leaves a bad taste in the mouth but if you can ignore that then you've got an option!
I could see the Praetor descending down on a jump pack and then calling his Deliverers to his exact location, lol
But I'll just keep them all the same type of armor, lol
The only issue with that is you can't give DS to a Cataphractii praetor - so he'll have to join up with them when they land
Oh snap... That's right. Terminator armor doesn't get deep strike naturally in this game
Welp, no Praetor Termi then
I'll just place the Jump Pack one, and then declare "Deliverers, to me!!"
OK, so here's the Mk2:
Consider switching out the combi grenade launcher on the sgts to a lighting claw?
I’m not sure how effective a grenade launcher would be
And while 1 lighting claw is not gonna win every single fight there’s buffs to it in assault that would make the tacticals them alittle more scary
I thought it looked cool and it gives an extra attack in the same range bands as the bolters. Those squads were just going to sit on objectives most of the time was my thought
Someone is def gonna try and clear you off of them
Sure, but is one Lightning Claw going to make that much of a difference?
No, if you encounter about anything the squad is not gonna do well
But lighting claw is a better chance at taking some down with the squad
Or having a fighting chance in a challenge
That's why i was thinking the combi-grenades. They might cause an extra unsaved wound or two per game which is the best I could hope for with close combat upgrades
I've already got the combi grenades modeled, so I will stick with them for now. I plan to have a variety of SGT builds to drop in, so I will make some Lightning Claw ones next to test them
Oh, I thought the combi grenades was quite clever with the chance for a cheeky pin; smallish chance, granted, but you never know when you might pull it off
Similarly thought the shotguns on the characters was good too
Yes, the Pinning chance was the other reason. Gets some potential rerolls from the Scout Nuncio Vox if they haven't suicided into something, etx. Plus, with the Aug Scanner, there is a slight chance that a deep strike unit will get Pinned via Interceptor and save the squad from annihilation.
Thanks! I thought that was kinda clever, lol
Ok, so I retooled it a bit based on the advice I've received and what I have read from others.
This is what I'm thinking for a starter 2,000 point list for Raven Guard. Haven't played 40k in like ten years and never played HH. THe new rules look pretty similar to what 40k was when I exited the game.
Basically, I'm just looking for opinions so I can get going with a fairly competent list that can hold its own in most situations. I want the reason I lose my first handful of games to be my inexperience, not my incompetence at list writing, lol.
Lastly, the intention is to use this as a core to move up to 3,000 later on. Thanks for helping!
Consider making a centurion a chaplain to gain bonuses in melee
Attach him to the dark furies
Would also suggest a leviathan with AT weapons
I was torn between Librarian or Chaplain for my second Centurion when I scale up to 3k
What gets switched out for the Leviathan?
I agree with anthony - a Chaplain would be a really good addition to the Furies in particular.
A Champion is cool, but he's 'just' a beatstick, whereas the Chappy adds so much value to a Fury unit.
I like the list in general; some of the smaller units make me a bit nervous but I think that just seems to be something you have a 2k points.
Another thing you could think about is switching out one of the Fury squads for Deliverers - similar sort of role, but you'd have one unit to dunk on AV3 and another to squish AV2
Leviathans are legit, but I worry they're just a bit too expensive for 2k points unless you scrimp on the upgrades
Is two squads of 10x dark furies worth jt?
Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines - 5 Deliverers with Power fists and a multimelta is 300 so is an almost perfect swap
Ok, so swap out the second Furies for a 5 man punchy melta Deliverer squad. No prob
And go for Chaplain instead of Champion at 2K
And then for 3K, add in some more Tactical squads and a Leviathan
Does the Leviathan need a drop pod or just deploy regular?
Or should I just take a Fire Raptor instead?
Fire raptor or storm eagle sound very fluffy
Fire raptor is good but it’s gonna be deadly only to infantry
You can try for tanks but it’s won’t be as effective
What would be a fluffy anti tank unit? Leviathans are cool but they seem kinda out of place in this list
Double las contemptor
Heavy support squad with lascabnon
They love mechanicus so whatever eats tanks for them
Ok, I will have a think on that
Im worried that kratos/spartan will be spammed
Hard to say
Don’t remember I was on my way out at that point. I just remember thinking it was kinda rude
Im playing the league as iron warriors so it’s been hard to start my ravenguard army. I did paint up most of raven guard apothecary tonight and gonna proxy him as an IW one
Until I make an IW apothecary
Yeah, that's a bit rough to show up to a league game with
2 infiltrating Melta TSSs and a pair of las/MM Javelins is decent AT - if you wanted to add something else (and aren't in a spammy mood) you could go for dual grav Proteus speeders
