#3k Militia vs Militia Combined arms

Cyber augmetics seems bad here
Just take Medicae units
As it shuts off taking reactions due to Slow and Purposeful
Ah but I take it for slow and purposeful. I can move and shoot the lasrifles as if stationary!
I guess?
I think you’d be better forking out for needlers if you’re taking armoury
The lack of reactions is crippling
Trust me
If you wanna run this style of list I’d play Warrior Elite/Legacy of the Great Crusade and Armoury
Cyber augmetics isn’t worth it if you’re not taking mechanicum allies IMO
Don't needlers have a really short range?
Plus lasrifles have 1 shot ID 18" (vs militia) and 2 shot 30" range shots.
But I'll crunch some numbers and keep it in mind!
Two immediate issues I’m seeing here are:
-
All those levies are going to get in your way as much as they will your opponent’s. Manoeuvre is extremely important in heresy and all those levies taking up space will limit your tactical flexibility. Also I hope to god you’ve got movement trays otherwise the game will take days.
-
You’re going to have a hard time deploying all of that. All those infantry alone will cover around half your deployment zone on Dawn of War, which could be a serious issue if you’re playing with the proper amount of terrain
Now a question: do you have a Baneblade? Because if you drop half the levies and the heavy flamer sentinels (those are unlikely to do anything useful for you) you’ll have enough points for one with all the upgrades and believe me it will improve this list
I do have a baneblade. And as for the levies, I do have the movement trays, and I love running huge blocks of infantry.
I will drop half the levies and the heavy flamer sentinels for a baneblade.
I don't know if I like the direction I am taking this list now
I went for Warrior elite and dropped all my levies for assault needler grenadiers.
80 infantry does not feel like enough.
Updated list
@pale elbow @quartz matrix
What matters most is that you enjoy playing with it
I reckon the Cavalry and the Medicae can go, I don’t see much point in giving a 6+ FNP to militia infantry, and lancer cavalry are really not very good. Trust me they are way overcosted and even with carapace armour they will more than likely evaporate prior to doing anything useful
That will give you space for 100 levies for screening purposes.
Good idea. What should I equip the levies with?
Ah wait, big problem. I'm out of troops slots.
Are you? I only count 5 at the moment
Remember you can have up to three levy squads in a single troops slot
Nothing beyond the lasgun or auto rifle they come with. They’re not there to actually do anything, they’re there to draw fire and be an annoying speed bump for your opponent
My bad, you're right. I thought I was at 6
Updated once again
(Plasma gun instead of grenade launcher in the retinue).
You're almost never reacting with militia infantry
it's really not a problem at all
all your vehicles can still react and you'll use reactions on them 95% of the time regardless
I disagree when you have a command squad with your FC in it with no transport
Command squad is really really bad. FC should be with either a big blob of grens or hiding out of LoS in the back
They're in the same "just dont bother bin" as medics
I’ve always felt the FC is essentially a 100 point tax on provenances and his main job once on the battlefield is to not die
or die if you take bbtp
so uhh
any suggestions to improve this even further beyond?
I personally really really hate levies but I understand thats the vibe you're going for. I would drop the command squad though and just stick your FC with a gren squad. Then maybe consolidate your sents into one squad and use the 2 free Fast attacks to get some cargo 8's
Militia need the mobility
I do not own cargo 8s
(because I am a well adjusted individual)
I own 6 I am not well adjusted
I own 30,000pts+ in Imperial Guard but that's just the built stuff and only 1 of my armies, me neither. God help me
I really only put the FC there because I need MORE bodies on the board
How many levies are they taking?
2x50
My 3500 list has plans for 6x50....
If at 2x50 you are saying it's too much...
Maybe I need to go back to 3x50
Thank you
300 levies is crazy. Hell 300 infantry full stop is kinda nuts. At that point you’re really pushing the bounds of what can even be deployed, and a lot of tactical flexibility goes out the window
The thing to remember about 50 man levy squads is they cost the same as a 10 man Tactical squad and are much, much worse
No...
Crazy is having that with unending horde....
Which I do
Yeah I am amending my list for more squads and cargo 8s...
I need more line
I will say, there is a psychological effect bringing multiple levy squads.
Having your opponent see all those bodies and realize "crap, I have to go through all that?!" is useful.
Especially since most players expect to fight marines and dreadnoughts
And not "a reenactment of the battle of Stalingrad"
