I personally don’t like to spend points to corrupt tacs. When a vex does the same thing but a little cheaper end of day. I’d try and go for 15 in a blob. Seeing as you’ll likely tag the centurion in with them.

Otherwise it’s a solid list.

I personally don't bother with corrupted on small units of tacs. It's too expensive and they evaporate if you fail morale. But on units 15-20 then it's awesome.

At 2000 points, that squad of Gal Vorbak is going to delete everything it see's. I was initially going to ask why not take the second fist/melta on them, but at 2k that's pretty tough to face. Though not sure what your local meta is, so if they're taking 10 squads of las etc then you might be right to take them.

Also, pretty sure that taking a tainted maul means it's not a power weapon anymore, so you can't do the upgrade for chaplain Crosius.

And okay I see what you guys are saying, what does dark channeling exactly do, I think I think it’s a lot better than it actually is, doesn’t it mean I can’t fall back and fail morale?

The local meta I have no idea yet, my best friend is playing with me and he’s just starting everything while I’m new to actually playing

Outside of what we make it I also have no idea, don’t even know if people around me even play

Might eventually add a melta vorbak just to swap in and out as points see fit

It gives them the Corrupted subtype, which means

• they don't fall back if they fail morale, instead they take Perils of the Warp (which is D3 wounds to the unit that you can only take Invulnerable saves or Adamantium Will saves against)
• they cause Fear (1) and are Immune to Fear themselves (note: this is not Fearless)
• wounds caused by Psychic Focus or Force weapons cause Instant Death to them

It's a pretty solid upgrade, but you definitely need the ablative wounds for it. If you pair that with Unswerving Devotion warlord trait, they become incredibly sticky and hard to get rid of.

Seconded on 10 gal Vorbak, that's a ROUGH unit at 2k; I usually only run 5 as a distraction unit that will also occasionally do the business anyway. Maybe add one or two to bulk out the unit.

I'd also consider adding some kind of ranged threat, whether it be a sniper team, a 5 man Heavy Support Squad, or even a dread with some lascannons. I find the Dark Brethren stacks are easy to start piling up if you can pick off a cheeky rhino or something, plus I think this list will struggle into armor.

That being said it's a good jumping off point; Word Bearers definitely love big blocks of men on the table haha and you can build most of these from the AoD box.

A good core of infantry is never a bad place to start anyway but Word Bearers especially so massed infantry pretty well

Okay so I’ve changed a few things

• went down to 5 gal vorbak
  -got a contemptor with lascannon and fist ( that’s how he’s already built )
• changed the tac squads to 2 20 man with dark channeling
  -got rid of the despoilers
  -added dark channeling to the praetor

My current dilemma is what to do with my esoterist, I don’t k ow if he should be moving up with the tac marines, in that case I need to make room for some points ( dropping the plasma pistol on the chaplain ) and adding dark channeling on him to run with the tacs and then maybe also adding a vexilla to the group

If the esoterist is better sitting back, then I can just put him with my heavy support squad

I like melta over the last cannon on my dreds, maybebonly be half ranged but twinlinked and can reroll to wound against dreds

Do you still have the tactical support squad? Run the esoterist with them. They'll be running forward enough to shoot, and that lets you summon demons where you need them. And saves you having to pay an extra 25 points for dark channeling.

Don't be afraid to run the dread forward to smash with the fist. I prefer the melta as well, but understandable if that's how he came. I only prefer the melta because I play aggressively.

And re: tainted maul. I was disappointed too, but either one of those is powerful enough on its own I've found. Especially once you get some buffs on your unit from killing the sacrifice unit.

I think I’ll keep it tainted and not mastercraft it, the insta death is just so fun and dangerous if you get it off. And yeah i Defiantly will be running forward with the dreadnought to punch things
