Here's a List. So, the plan is to stick the Cataphractii Praetor+Cataphractii Terminators in one Spartan, and the Primus Medicae+Despoilers in the other Spartan and roll that up the Board with the Vindicator just trucking along to make it feel more thematic and hopefully blast the crap out of something. Ideally the Spartans will get some nice Shooting in, dump the Terminators&Despoilers&HQs onto some Juicy Units and then back the fuck up and do some more Blasting, while the Vindicator probably just rolls forward and gets shot off the Board or Immobilized in Turn 2 or 3 with maybe 1 or 2 rounds of Shooting it's Demolisher Cannon. My plan isn't to win...it's to help teach someone VERY new to the Local TableTop WarGaming Community how to play Horus Heresy 2.0 while we both have some fun. Honestly I am gonna probably bring a backup 2k List incase this Match winds up being super short or unfun, that List will just be a bunch of my Infantry&Dreads walking up the Board. I do not know what the dudes Army will be, but it'll be DeathGuard and they've never played 40k or 30k before.

Double Spartan at 2k against someone who's never played before is going to be quite disheartening for them. 2k Might also be a bit much for their first game? Would personally recommend 1k, 1,5k max, so they can learn the basics of the game before being overwhelmed by the amount of stuff there is.

At the very least, instead of taking multiple of the same stuff you could keep the list more varied

It's really hard to fit any particularly fun/cool stuff into a 1k-1.5k List

according to the book, the game is designed/balanced at 3k, so I wouldn't really go lower than 2.5

You have to dedicate at least like 300 Points to fulfil the HQ&Troops Taxes, depending on your Rite of War(if any are used)&Collection.

Who says Troops aren't cool and fun? He's playing DG, Tacticals are the core of his army and easily something he can go above and beyond on

I'd prefer something varied. A Tac squad there, a Despoiler there. Some Terminators, a couple of Predators, maybe some bikes of a kind

And most of my Power Armour Lads are outfitted faitly ornately modeling wise so it could be quite confusing/annoying to keep track of the Proxies

imo the best way to play this list vs a newer player is just charge everything out of the spartans into his gunline, then gracefully concede, when, suprise, they die to DG tactical marine fire

I genuinely think this list is great to play vs a newer player, it doesnt have nearly as much punching power as youre giving it credit for, as a LOT of the units have a suboptimal weapon, you dont have nearly enough line to dominate on objectives, and it looks fucking cool

My goal is to have the Spartans take a beating, deliver the Infantry for some nice close-range shooting&cool melee and probably be overwhelmed&get myself Tabled or pretty much just have the Spartans left by the end of the Match. Plus it'll be great to finally see how my dream or "LandRaiders scooch up the Board&dump some Spicy Infantry into my Opponents face" does in-person for once.

A fun Match that lets them get in plenty of managing&moving Troops, teaches them the value of bringing Transports and Ranged Anti-Tank and not skewing your List too much. Also gives him an opportunity to have some Troops sit on Objectives racking up Victory Points for a very safe Win. Not too many Units for either of us to juggle, and even if my Lads do exceptionally well in Shooting&Melee I will still probably lose through Objectives.....just.as.planned.[insert TTS Tzeentch Laugh here]

I am gonna pack most of my Minis so if my List does look like too much against what they bring, I can always through together a more balanced List in BattleScribe fairly quickly with all my Minis in front of me.

sure its huge damage but the thing is small blast. The only thing it'll actually do realistic damage vs that DG can field is deathshrouds/other terminators, in which case you promptly remind him to spread his blobs out a little bit

Basic learning match should be less points with basic units.starting players will have like some Tacticals, terminators and a dread. This list is just gonna las a beginner

I am hoping to go up against one or more of this dudes Titans soon-ish, so hopefully my stubborn refusal to use "Proper Tactics" and Very Nice Conversions will overcome my urge to Skew Lists enough to make a friend&not an enemy

I've only found Posts of his DeathGuard, his Knight Porphyrion, his Warlord Titan&his Warbringer Titan. He mentioned he's got some Mechanicum but I got the impression that it's not much for now, perhaps enough for an Allied Detachment.

I know I enjoy it, my Buddy has his Alpha Legion, there's this guy with his Titans&Mechanicum&DeathGuard, the LocalGameStore Owner I think likes the Rules but he's really busy, there's one guy who has 30k Blood Angels but he really really likes 40k and there was another guy who was trying to startup some 30k Iron Warriors but I think he stopped cus he got too busy&I dunno if he'll be able to try again any time "soon"
