Hey all, I've been playing with the idea of combining the Mobius Configuration warlord trait and Coils of the Hydra RoW for a little bit now, since having a sacrificial allied detachment you don't really care about to protect the RoT units and cause some mischief on Turn 1 seems like a good idea to me. Thus, World Eaters with jump packs being able to rush up the field and at the very least threaten extreme violence on the charge seems like the best fit for a force like this, especially since my enemy will be seriously punished if they ignore the sixteen bloodthirsty madmen assaulting their flanks.

I don't mind too much if the World Eaters don't survive the battle since I get 1VP for losing them all and my opponent receives none for killing any of them, so I can afford to be pretty reckless with them tactically.

I'm not looking to be super meta with this list, but it's something intended to be fun and interesting to play that I can possibly expand on or change in the future if I choose to.

Definitely lose the excoriator chain axe on the chappy

I can only talk for the world eater but imo you want fallax blade (for rending 4+) or barb hook lash (reach 1 and rending 5+). Meteor hammer are just less effetive lash because rending > or = breaching and fleshbane is better than F6.

I would probably either swap the assault squad for more despoilers or less points in despoilers and more into rampagers

#

But yeah Liber Falax for the chappy.

maybe drop the power daggers on the IH and give a combi weapon to the headhunter primes

So I say go power axe on the chaplain or power maul to benefit from the crozius upgrade, rampagers i would recommend not doing too many falax blades since they are imo on the level of oppressive for what they are.

I'm not a big fan of plasma pistols. You’re running so can’t shoot. Or getting ready to charge. Usually whatever you’re charging has more than a couple plasma pistols so risking the return fire seems bad. MAYBE that calculus changes w other shooting but I doubt it’s a free roll

I think 5 rampagers with jump packs aren't a good idea. Expensive and very squishy, lack of any inv save will be felt

Thanks all for the feedback! Definitely swapping the chaplain's excoriator axe for a power axe for that AP2, and removing the plasma pistols from the allied detachment entirely. I put the plasma in because I didn't mind if they exploded, and I felt it made them a little more dangerous and harder to ignore if they had a pistol with some bite. But tactically you're right, it makes very little sense.

#

The Rampagers seem to have lots of different uses, and honestly they're the unit I was most concerned about in the entire list. I like all of their equipment and would love to just field a mixed squad, but that's not very efficient from what I understand. It's very interesting that the community has such varied ideas what weapons to give them

I like the hammers for the +2 strength, but the fleshbane hooks are interesting me as well, and a that point the difference is between Rending or Breaching

inferno pistols are a big no no IMO

#

its what, 15 points per pistol, which will be fired once, in one out of three games?

If it were me, I'd strip the Assault squad down to maybe just arti armour on the Sgt. I really like them with a unit of Rampagers here but basically you just need them to screen and the absorb OW so the Rampagers can charge. And look cool waving their chainaxes around. I'd then dump all those points into taking the Rampagers up to at least 8. The consensus seems to be you run them 3 ways:

  1. Falax Spam - Great. Maybe too great. But they absolutely fold to I5
  2. Mix of Falax and Hammers - The overall output goes down but you have a bit of game into I5. And you can sleep sound at night.
  3. Random Mix - Little bit of everything basically bc you like the look. You can always pull dudes with whatever isn't useful at the time.
#

I run 2 units of 10 w Falax. 10 is overkill but they do pop. Especially when things explode. But, that 10 means that I can sort of keep going. They'er combat effective longer. You're just looking for a fun distraction unit so you're probably just happy to trade them so you won't need nearly as many.

#

Is my 2 cents

That's some really interesting insight, thank you! You've definitely given me food for thought.

Out of interest, what makes the falax blade spam so good?

+4 rend, +1 strength and +1 attack for two blades does sound fun now I think about it

slate mountain

Especially because WE get 2 extra attacks on the charge

Ohh

#

Now that's making more sense why they're such a blender

Okay, I've made some small changes to the list that should hopefully fix some of the issues that have been raised, but the shortlist is:

Alpha Legion:

  • Swapped the land raider's heavy bolters to twin lascannons for a little extra anti tank/heavy infantry
  • Removed the inferno pistols from the Headhunter squads,
  • Removed the power daggers from the Iron Havocs, since if they're in assault range, then I've done something catastrophically wrong

World Eaters:

  • Chaplain's now armed with a power axe instead of the excoriator chainaxe
  • Rampagers upped to 8 marines, who are now running Liber Falax
  • Assault squad stripped bare, just running chainaxes and bolt pistols so they can screen for the rampagers
